Well, I made it through Day 2. On to day 3 with 45k. Blinds will be 500/1000 100ante for the first hour and then go to 600/1200 200 ante. The average stack is around 86k so I’m not in super comfortable shape but having 45bbs in a tournament actually seems like a lot to me!

I feel pretty good to be here as well because I had very few hands today.

My plan was to play the first hour tight to establish an image and not put my stack at risk needlessly but I picked up hands that I had to open like 55 from the button which got calls out of the blind. I got a perfect cbet flop that got c/r by the SB so I had to fold. Then I got AQs from MP which I opened and once again my c-bet failed. After that I found myself down to 13k at 200/400 when I picked up AQs from the BB and faced an open from the button and a call from the SB. I jammed and the SB tanked for 2 mins before folding. After the day he told me he had TT.

The rest of the day was just preflop work. And what work it was going from 13k -> 45k. I’ve never been so exhausted after a poker session!

All my chips came from finding preflop 3 bet, squeeze and open spots. I had AA once and my late position 3 bet of an active EP got him to fold. And I did flop a set once but when I c/r a turn the guy instantly folded indicating he had absolute nothing.

There was one funny moment where I opened 47o on the button vs a BB who had played a total of 5 hands to that point (we were 8 hours in). His stack went from 25k to 8k with no action. It was insane. Actually kinda funny because he had his very pretty girlfriend on the rail the entire time watching fold hand after hand. When he did win a pot she would run over and give him a big kiss.

He called me and we got to showdown with me hitting a 7 on the turn and his AT not getting there (lol no resteal pf). At that point the table cracked up and one guy yelled at me – YOU’VE BEEN PISSING A LOT OF PEOPLE OFF TODAY. I was so praying to get a hand to pay off my image but it never came.

So it was that kind of day.

The other mildly interesting spot was against the same tight guy with the pretty girlfriend. First hand after dinner I open K9hh from the button into his BB for 2k at 400/800. He surprisingly calls. He had been all in twice before and that’s all he’s done all day, so his call was weird to me with a 13k stack.

Flop is 9 high rags. He checks and I bet 3000 into ~4500 pot. He instantly goes all in. WTF is this?

I think for a few seconds. Take off my sunglasses, and ask him if he and his girlfriend came up with some new strategy during dinner. He says no. Then I ask him if she’s still watching. He says “yes” so I wave to her. He laughs.

Then he says to me, “what happens happens” which is a major tell of strength.

I was leaning fold anyway because I just could not figure out what this guy could be doing this with. I figured his range was all pairs that crush me and A9 min. So i fold and he actually tables K9 as well. Same hand as me. Don’t regret it too much.

The only hand that I feel I could have saved some chips was when my Q7s in the BB got one limper. SB came in and I checked behind.

Flop was Q high but I really did not want to build a pot here OOP with a weak kicker so I checked and everyone else did as well. Turn was a K and now I didn’t want to put money in once again, so everyone checked as well. The river was a T making a 4 card inside straight and the button limper made a pot size bet (3k) which i called and he obv had the straight. I was a little annoyed at myself.

I had dinner with a good friend who told me that the best advice he got from his coach was that some people hate to be bluffed on rivers and some people hate to be valued. Be the guy who hates to be valued because most of the time, they have it. If i had heard that before dinner I would have definitely folded.

Other than that not much to report. Just hard work to stay alive. Looking forward to day 3! I am RonFezBuddy on twitter if you want to follow along during the day.

“YOU’VE BEEN PISSING A LOT OF PEOPLE OFF TODAY.”

This NEEDS to be a regular tagline used in every video where your play is critiqued. Just classic.
