Article – Selling Yourself Short: Why ChipEV is (Sometimes) Overrated, Part 1
https://www.tournamentpokeredge.com/selling-yourself-short-why-chipev-is-sometimes-overrated-part-1/
This week’s article comes from new pro Chris Moon, and he talks about the underrated concept of the difference between Chip EV and Tournament EV. This is extremely important in my opinion because a lot of people have just adopted the cash game mindset of +EV is always correct. As Chris points out, this is not always the case. If you believe you have a massive edge on the field, then taking a spot which has 52% equity is going to actually cause your ROI to go down. I am really looking forward to part 2 of this article.

Jeff “Hurricane Jeff” Romano Mixed Stakes Live Sweat
At the start of the vid, Jeff seems to be having some problems with the recording software (with pretty funny results!) but soon he sorts it out as the $162 on Lock starts up. It is starting to get pretty deep in the $55 3k gtd, and he is in a good position as it comes close to the bubble. The rungood continues though, with Jeff winning most of his flips, must be nice as they say! Unfortunately his luck runs out right near the bubble of the $55, but he has some decent stacks in some of the other tourneys.
In part 3, we return with Jeff winning a huge hand AKc > AK and it seems the only runbad he is having is the spillage of hot sauce on his pants! Jeff uses his aggression selectively and is putting it to good use with the big stacks he has accumulated, although he has to make a couple of good folds as well.
TPE Theory: Meta-Game Adjustments
Last week there was a bit of an issue with downloading this series onto a computer, but thankfully this has now been fixed and I could get my teeth stuck into this series. If you liked Daryl Jace’s recent advanced series, you will absolutely love this too. One thing I like about this series is that Chris shows you the dynamics in play in the lead up to the hand in question. This is an excellent way of analysing hands, because too often we do it in a vacuum when sometimes the dynamics are THE deciding factor in what line is the best to take.
After setting up his methodology for reviewing hands in part 1, he now goes over a full hand history of a final table of a $33 2r1a 10k gtd on Merge. What is interesting early on is how a small mistake from a villain (showing a bluff in a hand) can lead to a completely different strategy and mindset as to how that villain is playing. Later in the vid adjusts to great effect and ends up raising a cbet with the nuts, which is an excellent play given the previous action. He also goes through a couple of hands where he didn’t make the required adjustments and explains how he would have played it differently. In part 3 he reviews the key points from part 2, and then goes through some more hands form the $33q final table, including some more meta-adjustments for 3 and 4 handed play, and finishes off with some heads up play.
