you sound too monotone, very boring/depressed sounding. You don’t talk confidently a lot of the time. I really like this seriese though.
omgxeveryxtime
also why are you three betting a lot on the first hand when villan raises utg with lots of people left to act, when on the third you are only one spot in later position you say that the more people are behind the less profitable it is to three bet bluff because the three percent of the time they wake up with the hand it is multiplied. and im sorry to press this but litening you talk kind of makes my ears bleed.
omgxeveryxtime
are you reading from a script? because sometimes you just like pandomly stop in the middle of a sentence for like 5 seconds.
aaaaaaaaa
Ya sorry about the pauses it was a tough video even with doing 2 takes and had to stop and think for a bit about what to say.
aaaaaaaaa
The opponents HUD stats I think.
aaaaaaaaa
Would be interested to see if everyone else feels this way. I’m very conscious of this when making videos and I didn’t think it sounded bad but i’m obviously biased and didn’t listen to the whole thing. The confidence thing hopefully gets improved deeper into the series, it was really difficult to do at first. I’m not sure how else to address this.
DJRog00
This is extremely common when doing a theory video or when teaching and you need to stop to think about something. Have you ever had someone teach you before? Daryl this is very good please don’t listen to this person.
DJRog00
Then don’t watch, Daryl makes some of the deepest thinking videos for TPE and they have been vital to me improving as much as I have in the last year in poker. If you can’t sit down and listen to someone teach in this manner you can find other videos elsewhere. You will be missing out on an insane amount of information with Daryl’s videos though. Probably not fair the amount he’s released on TPE for the price. Thanks again Daryl, keep it up.
DJRog00
It’s fine Daryl, what i expect a theory video to sound like. You are teaching a game, theory videos are not going to be constant action and excitement to the untrained eye.
LanguidlyClinical
I wouldnt say you sound monotone or depressing. Stoned maybe.
I think its great that youre making a series like this cos, while its probably hard to do, the result is probably way more helpful to viewers.
Even this intro was worth watching to see you go into detail on the factors in play and what evidence and stats can be helpful…”call 2bet” means “flat open” right?
You didnt mention much about image which should probably be a factor but maybe you will mention that a bit later

I think its Ok to have a problem with someone’s video, but now you are being a little disrespectful. Daryl has been my coach all year and I am currently ranked #1 on one of the major US sites. I would be lost without Daryl so although you may have a problem with his voice, his content is literally top notch. I think its good that you post how you feel about vids, but that can be done in one comment.
Plenty of other great pros to choose from !

I don’t comment much here but as an unbiased reviewer (Daryl is not my coach), I think this series is excellent. The tone is fine, the pauses are obviously because he is actually thinking about the content while he is teaching, and the lecture itself is a good mix for all levels of player. Obviously omgxeveryxtime doesn’t like Daryl, so I suppose 1 negative post is fine (although not very productive when it comes to his voice), but 2 seems personal and unnecessary. Love the videos Daryl. Keep up the good work.
ShirleyWilliams
Daryl has a disclaimer at the very beginning of the video that says he might say “umm” a lot, so it may be a lot of pauses to not say that so much. I would much rather hear a pause than “umm, aww,” every second. I think the video is great! IMHO I think that these concepts just come naturally to him, that’s why it is hard for him to break it down for us. I appreciate him taking the time the explain so that even the novice player can understand

I loved Andrew Brokos, every single one of this theory videos was spot on. I’m not saying your bad! I’m not trying to beat you up or anything I wouldn’t do that. I’m just trying to give you helpful criticism. I would love to subscribe to this site from now because there’s always new videos getting released, unlike PxF. But i find the videos on this site, well a lot of them anyways, are not given there 110%. I feel like they record it and unless something goes horribly wrong, most of the time they release the video anyways. If i were to make a video, i would do it, then i would watch it at least two times after to make sure its not going to make me look stupid.

This series is awesome. Love it. I’ll just leave this here…

omgxeveryxtime
Appreciate it. I actually have watched videos from this pro for a long time when I was subscribed under a different name and I have always felt like when i listen to him, my ears bleed. I think you guys are taking it wayyy to hard. I’m just trying to give you guys helpful criticism. I paid for my subscription here so i don’t appreciate when, firstly, the footage is sub par. Second when I’m bashed by the mods saying, “don’t listen to him” blah blah blah… If hes a man he can take some criticism you don’t need to protect his feelings.
omgxeveryxtime
also i want to say something else, part 2, 3, and 4 have all been much better then this one
Killingbird
I don’t think any mods have posted in this thread. Unless you count me as a mod and I was just saying that I love this series. No offense intended.
DJRog00
What you gave was not constructive criticism. At no point did you say anything of substance that can help Daryl improve (except maybe the confidence comment). You simply bashed him and told him his voice makes your ears bleed. I think you are the one who needs be to able to take some criticism. I never post like this but I felt you were not saying something helpful you were just trying to bash Daryl. If you do not like the videos just don’t watch or provide constructive criticism. I’m not protecting anyone’s feelings, Daryl has improved a lot because of early criticism on certain videos. It is helpful to the video maker. Also your comment about the videos being sub par is just wrong, for the price you pay on this site the quality is high end.
aaaaaaaaa
I appreciate the criticism. I do 2 takes on every video I make and put a lot of time and thought/love into them. As a tip use spellcheck more when writing serious replies because it makes harder for people to take what you say seriously.
aaaaaaaaa
Thanks.
omgxeveryxtime
DJrRog, all I was trying to do was tell him what he should improve on. If you don’t agree, and don’t think there is room to improve on anything in these videos you’re wrong. At no point in these conversation have you acknowledged that there is room for improvement in this series. You immediately said:
“It’s fine Daryl, what i expect a theory video to sound like. You are teaching a game, theory videos are not going to be constant action and excitement to the untrained eye.” Well news flash I’m not looking for constant action and excitement. I didn’t sign up to this site for personal enjoyment, I signed up to learn! There is much to learn in this series i just don’t want to listen to audio that sounds so monotone, and when there is uber long pauses literally right in the middle of a sentence!! Am i asking for too much?
and, “If you can’t sit down and listen to someone teach in this manner you can find other videos elsewhere.” I have watched every theory video from Andrew Brokos, and while the content is pretty basic, i rated him 10/10 on most of them because his style for making videos is better. I love theory based series. This is not something you should be saying to paying customers.
I want to correct myself, the videos are not sub-par, and anyone who subscribes to this site is getting a decent deal. Its just that a couple of the pros on this site make it harder to learn compared to other sites where the content is very direct. Some of the videos on this site I feel are weighted towards providing pleasure mixed with instructional footage. And to someone like me that is very frustrating. I sit down ready to learn and i put on, let say, BigDog’s videos, for the first five minutes you don’t learn one thing, its him talking about his personal life. Or when i sat down to watch this series and the sound of his voice was extremely monotone/boring on top of that there is 10 second pauses right in the middle of a sentence! At this point I’m not sure if i care too much whether the pros in question on this site decide to improve.
Also who is DJRog00 anyways?
marc alioto
OH GOD, you must hate my vids Shirley! college dropout ftw
Ummmm, ummmm , like,,,,, like i think, ummm i like
Hope all is well

“This is not something you should be saying to paying customers.”
Agreed. When I go to Starbucks, I feel my $4 entitles me to inform the baristas their voices make me suicidal or remind them that dreadlocks are an inappropriate hairstyle for a white person. A barista may have handed me a near-perfect with the world’s cutest heart etched on its creamy surface, but how am I supposed to enjoy it if they’re speaking 1/4 of an octave higher than I prefer my male voices?
omgxeveryxtime
Its completely different Re-Re. Your not trying to learn anything from Starbucks, your not trying to get any information from them, you pay and leave and it doesn’t make a difference. If you pay 10k a year to go to college i assume your not going to want a professor who talks like a 16 year old and cant even complete a sentence with out stopping for 10 seconds half way through. I cant tell if your just trying to be funny or you actually think you’re comparison has merit….
omgxeveryxtime
“This is not something you should be saying to paying customers.”
This is true, but considering the quality of some of the videos on this site, and the type of responses a paying customer gets when he try’s to help, I wouldn’t necessarily give the mods credit for being careful people. I think the only two people who have been respectable was Azn and Daryl.
I admit I could have gone about giving my criticism in a more respectful way, and for that I’m sorry and i admit I was wrong. But the fact that some of the pros are responding back in such a childish way, unable to admit any wrong doing, concerns me.
Killingbird
I dont think any pros or mods other than AZN and Daryl have responded here. But if they have, and you were offended by any of their replyies I apologize on their behalf.
jamesquinnw
Your college only cost 10K a year? Did you make a lot of friends at the University of Phoenix?
omgxeveryxtime

I admit you are funny. But your also stupid/smart ass at the same time. You can go to college and take a single corse, you would pay just by the coase. Hense the reason i said “PROFESSOR” (non plural) I suspect you have never graduated high-school then jamesquinnw?
omgxeveryxtime
A suggestion i want to make to you Daryl, you can write what you want to say down on Microsoft Word and just keep it off screen and its very easy to read and stay focused on the screen your recording on.
DJRog00
A respected member who has been a part of this community for a long time. You appear to be all over the place in this thread, I would respond but I don’t know which guy I’m talking to. The troll, a man who just hates Daryl or a guy who actually wants to learn and provide constructive criticism. I’m sorry for lashing out, but the way you chose to say things was very poor and definitely not helpful.
p-jam
This is a great series and has really enhanced my understanding of 3-betting.
I couldnt give a flying fuck how you talk, just keep making videos please.
snakedog
Awesome series and I actually like the way you speak in your videos, your easy to follow and I find myself not having to rewind to relisten. Thanks
Wappie
Hi Daryl, what is 2 betting?
hpy2Bhr
Wow there’s a lot of noise in the comments. As a Paying Customer™ I would not mind it if mods just deleted omgxeveryxtime’s comments. I assume Daryl already has seen them and nobody else really needs to.
This series was the one that convinced me to sign up an hour ago – and I am very satisfied that I did. I really like your teaching style and the content so far is great. So please keep doing TPE Theory’s!
A few comments:
Would be nice if you explained your HUD from the start – it took me a while to figure it out 🙂
Another thing I noticed, was that your “concept check” parts, where you ask us to pause, were kind of understated. I wouldn’t mind if you made it more explicit. While this is not directly applicable perhaps you could draw some inspiration from it: http://youtu.be/rCuPn0GZ7J8?t=2m6s
Anyway, will probably be commenting again when I’ve watched all of the series.
hpy2Bhr
First bet is the big blind. Standard open raising is 2-betting.

Looks like feedback is good… But great series!
omgxeveryxtime
i gues what i was geting at is you sound very dis-interested, and if you dont sound happy to be doing the video, how can you expect your listeners to be happy while they watch.
omgxeveryxtime
im truely astonished only one other person agree’d with me in another videos comments.
MauiPokerQ
Aww you just love AB because he says spontaneoulsy spouts things about his opponents like “unfortunately he picks this time to become credulous”. His rapid fire, elequont articluation suits you. I believe that Daryl absolutely has great insight into his topics, but a rather different delivery system. They are both willing to educate, so props to them both.
aokgringo
This is a very good topic, one I would like to learn more about to improve my game. I really do appreciate that you are attempting a difficult subject. That said, it was very difficult to follow. I don’t have an issue with sounding monotone or even “uh-ms” or pauses. It did sound unpracticed and from the hip so to speak which causes some unfinished thoughts, or unexplained points. I know it would add considerable time to completing a video but I think planning what you want to say (making an outline or notes) and practicing it before starting a video would be very helpful. I couldn’t finish this video. I will try again though.
derwin
Wow…eye opening series! Thanks Daryl!
The Riceman
I haven’t watched the video yet but I am about to so I will let you know my thoughts as a DJ virgin. I do know that he is hugely respected as a tutor. Personally I could care less what someone sounds like. This isn’t a singing contest. I don’t care if he sounds like a gay Muslim-Hindu bitch cross on acid from Kathmandu so long as I feel it has been a worthwhile use of my time. What folk forget is that these guys are poker players, not professional presenters. Except for Foucault who has been involved in serious presentation in the past. So there’s no wonder why he may sound more polished.
MCWelsh
I thought the content was excellent and your tone and delivery were fine for me. I know this is way after the fact and I haven’t yet listened any other video of yours…but looking forward to them.
MIShroomer47
I agree with another poster above, i wish you would have broken down your HUD set up before you started getting into the video series. it would have just made following along right off the get go much easier. still working through the rest of the series.
