I feel like limping on the button is generally to be avoided deep in tournies (with the 8s10s). Whilst it’s true you’re happy to play a pot in position with a suited connector even if he raises your limp, you throw away the possibility of taking down the pot uncontended when he has rubbish hands that you’re allowing to flop for free?

clinging to his 5s like someone lost in a windstorm…
at the end of the day it’s just poker, they’re not going to kill us…

    classic!

there are pros and cons to every decision, esp pre flop, in MTT poker. limping there allowed us to see a flop in position most often, which we felt outweighed the negative consequence of not immediately winning the pot. the alternative was raise/folding, which we werent thrilled with since we know villain can do it with a wide percentage of hands

After watching TPE Theory: Getting Paid with Andrew Brokos, I think overbetting the river with QJ on 10310JJ at 8:00 is the best play. Villain is extremely likely to have ace high on the river and is likely to pay off a bet no matter what sizing because the only hands that beat him are overpairs (all 4b pre or at least bet flop or turn once), Tx (bets at least flop or turn), and finally Jx which accounts for a very small part of our range and can be discounted in villain’s eyes for not betting turn. I would go for something in the range of 90k into the 72k. We will have a lot of air in our range by the river (including counterfeited pairs) so overbetting makes up for that disparity by offering a worse price to villain.

Brilliant series, learning alot here. I have a question about the 810s 21 mins in.
Is there not more missed draws showing up on the river than small pairs?
I would normally check that river to most players, expecting him to be forced to bet to win with his missed draws. Cheers…
