re: KQ hand that begins around 8 minutes into the video
I think we need to bet river pretty small to assure a call from some weak hands. Honestly, we have no bluffs. We could have Jx or Tx that’s turning our hand into a bluff to get someone off Kx but that’s it unless we decided to float turn with air (it’s hard to have air) to make a move on a river that completes one of the draws.
I think some of the two pair hands mentioned in the video could bet/fold river to control the bet sizing in the hand. That way KT isn’t faced with a 75% pot river call where it’s not exactly a guessing game …
Also, he doesn’t really have any flush draws in his range when he checks the river. The board is such that we will check behind at a high enough frequency where he shouldn’t try to get a check/raise in against us.
By betting small we make Jx and maybe even Tx say F it and call, and a very small percentage of the time we make someone spazz and rep something they really should never have, and then we win a really big pot.
disagree that spazzing/repping will happen often enough that we should consider altering our bet sizing–its certainly a non-zero % of the time but its not high enough that id care to try it.
but the rest of your reasoning is solid. it just becomes a guess as to what level hes on on the river. if i bet small to get calls from worse, but he knows id do that to induce calls, then i should make it bigger to appear like a bluff, bc “why would he bet so big to scare us off if he had a hand?”
its possible we guessed the wrong level on the river, but its altogether entirely possible that he just stabbed at the turn with air and then decided to give up on such a heavy river, so our bet sizing was a moot discussion. who knows.
I might be making some critical sizing mistakes, in that case (re: your first sentence).
About what % of the time do you feel like villain would have to spazz for us to make a small, inducing bet instead of a larger and more bluffy looking bet?
