I thought I would share today something that I have been experimenting with for quite some time and believe have found a noticeable improvement because of:
1. Solid Fundamentals + Good Practice Habits + Frequent Studying + Time at the Tables = Good Poker
2. Good Poker + Excercise + Hydration + Well Balanced Meals + Sleep/Rest = Great Poker
There you go, the keys to the kingdom. I have been chronicalling my performance at the tables with improved fitness (goals that my wife gave me) and have actually noticed a substantial change for the better in my play. Taking the time to excercise has allowed me to come into sessions destressed and more relaxed, combine that with good sleep schedule and I have been more alert and attentive while playing. Adding in good nutrition and hydration and I have really noticed that my mind is sharper when I play, less prone to wandering and drifting which is huge. I'm not saying if you are average now that magically going to the gym will make you great, but what I am advocating is that take a look at your sessions. Do you start off strong and fade by the end. Are you pounding snacks or beer the entire time. We all know that preperation is key and if you are going to be in one place for a lot of hours endurance is everything, why not put your body and most importantly your mind in the best overall position to give you an edge. The game today is so competitive so every little bit counts.
Nothing to report on the playing front as I didn't sneak in any time at the tables with packing and moving. I'm planning a PLO session tonight as I haven't played it in a little while and what to keep the skills sharp. A little HA tourney may be in my future as well 🙂 Have to see how I'm feeling. Until then think about the above and record some of what you are doing, tweak meals and habits a little and see if your edge gets any bigger. I would be curious to hear results! This is the Gman signing out!
