Thought I would drop a quick post on last nights session. Had an okay run at things last night, got 2 bullets in the FTP 28k close to cashing (400ish and 320ish with 234 paying) which was really nice to see. My play is starting to coalesce which is making me very happy. I think there are a couple of factors at play here which I am enjoying. First, I have been spending a lot of time reading and studying (not as many vids as I would have liked so I have to fix that) and the effects are starting to take shape. Understanding of betting motivations has been something that is helping out a lot. When you break it down there are 3 reasons for betting
1. Betting for Value
2. Betting as a Bluff
3. Capitalizing on Dead Money
Everytime I bet, I am not consciously asking myself, what is my reason for betting. If I can't answer the question or I cannot give a strong answer than no bet is made. I am finding that I am utilizing the check a lot more and my ability to fold is growing. One of the other great leaps is changing how I look at hands and boards and textures to more of a concept of equity and allowing it to drive my aggression, rather than just being aggressive for the sake of the emotion. Understanding the basic idea that POT EQUITY + FOLD EQUITY = AGGRESSION has been a big change. When I have the best of it, the equity to make the best of it or the villian will fold enough times then you can ramp the aggression way up and push for value. If those factors aren't there, no bet, no aggression. The last and certainly not the least has been spending more time talking though strategy and concepts with a couple of players during sessions. Having a core group of players to work with is critical and being able to share and understand multiple perspectives is key. Thanks Tiger, AP, FK, Raios and xxsosickxx. If it wasn't for you guys, I don't think I would continue to grow. We are going to hit the HS soon, I can feel it. Well that is all for today, got a big session brewing tonight so looking forward to it. Catch everyone on the felt!
