If you have ever spent any real time talking with me about Poker, you will know that this isn't a topic I talk about a lot. It is however one that I believe in quite a bit. I guess that I don't talk about it much as I just take it as second nature and do as good a job as I can adhering to it. My advice to anyone getting involved in the game is to adhere to it as well. This is the one concept away from the table that will potentially make or break you as a player. So what exactly is BRM. Well there are tons of rules and ideas out there on how you should do it. Some folks say you need 200 buy ins, others say 100, some say 50 if you have an edge (when were you not able to convince yourself that you had an edge). I thought I would share my thoughts on the subject, because I am in a phase again where I am dropping down to the SnG universe to rebuild my roll back to a comfort level. So how do I approach BRM. I have a couple of pretty straightforward rules.

1. For MTTs > 300 runners I require that I have 200 buyins.

2. For MTTs < 300 runners I require that I have 100 buyins.

So what is the practical implecation of this. Essentially I recognize that large field stuff is more variance and more difficult, frought with substantially more min-cashes than anything else. So I like to make sure that I pad myself with a bigger roll than I probably really need at this stage just to make sure that I have wiggle room in case things go south for a while (and they have). The break is essentially made at the OD Rush Level as that is where I believe that the tourneys start to behave a lot more like multi-table SnGs and I can loosen up the requirements because I can play much more effectively in those. I have found that the 90man KOs and the 45mans on FTP are by far my favorite BR builders with the OD Rush being a close second (or third i guess technically). So that being said, my roll has dropped below my margin a bit so I am going to be spending the next little while pumping it back up. The other big reason for boosting the ole BR up is to increase my ability to tackle some of the Mini-FTOPs events. Looking at the schedule and the sheer volume of ME tourneys I think that I am actually going to bypass a bunch of the events, but I am seriously considering a 6 bullet attempt at the Mini Main Event. If I am going to do that, need to pound the BR builders so that I can take that hit to the BR and still be in a comfortable spot for playing my regular schedule. We'll see how it goes, last night was reasonably successful as i managed a pretty solid return for the day's efforts. I am off next week before I go to Atlantic City for the WSOPC so I am looking forward to a couple of sizeable sessions of the 45mans to really boost what is going on. Well GL with your time at the tables and I'll catch up tomorrow on some more 45man progress. This is the Gman signing out.
