Just a fantastic opening vid for your first ever series

Really nice video. I know some people want to see evveerryyyy hand (which isn’t a problem) but I enjoyed the way you just cut the video to relevant hands. You get a lot more solid info into the 45 minutes. Your range analysis is also great to listen to.
Another point on discussing ranges that I enjoyed was that you didnt just say for example “JJ is a call here so we snap call…” and you actually said “99 is the worst hand in my range that I would call with in this spot but 88 is a fold” as that’s a lot more helpful.

Excellent video!

Nice clear presentation, I don’t think you spoke to fast.
theginger45
Thanks for the comments guys! Good to hear I didn’t speak too fast.
Thanks for the feedback michae1di11on, I think with future reviews if it were a shorter tournament there might be a possibility of seeing every hand, but with a 1,000-hand 2-day tournament it’s just not realistic.

10/10 for you first video. Clear and your explanations were very detailed . With regard to the kq v ak hand at the very end of the video, you actually read his 3 bet sizing (which i agree with as aa kk qq, more likely 3 bet less) as an aq ak hand yet you still 4 bet shoved with kq trying to explain your play by saying player dependant and this player was on your table earlier. However, i cant see that you would have had enough info on him as you had only been playing a relatively short period of time with him. and kq would be an easy fold me for..but then i am and have always been a total nit. Congratulations on a top class first video though

Just began watching this video and have a very short qestion concerning the replayer you use: which one is that? looks very nice, I use HM2, too, but my replayer looks much simpler/basic. Thanks in advance.
Looking forward to this video, as I am always quite interested in low-BI content.

Posted this in the wrong video thread, sorry for that.

No problem, the replayer is Universal Replayer. If you Google it you should be able to find it pretty easily, it’s a really useful program.

Yeah, I think that was a bad play with KQo there. I think one of the things I want to highlight with some of my videos is that for everyone, no matter how good you are, it’s a scientific fact that your brain analyses situations much more effectively without the pressure of playing a hand in real-time, so everyone makes better decisions in hindsight – one of the keys to improving at poker is being able to narrow the gap between your ability to analyse hands after the fact, and your ability to make optimal decisions in real-time.
Obviously on that occasion my real-time decision-making let me down – you’ll see in future parts that I make quite a few more mistakes in this tournament as well!

definitely enjoyed it throughout. looking forward to the next one!

first off, really enjoyed the video, I actually really liked the pace and i liked how you picked out hands ahead of time. I also like how you talk about cards being good/bad for both our range and our particular hand. I noticed you would talk about your marginal decisions, ie the last hand you call with and best hand you fold. would love if it you could include that for betting/barreling, ie what hands in your range you would and wouldnt barrel and which hands you would just fold on turns etc.
secondly @ 10min where you have JJ on a AcKc4 board. do you have a check back range in this spot or are you turning everything into a bluff or value betting it?

Very well put!

Great start to the series!!!

Would be interested to hear Matt’s opinion on that spot as well, but I feel we often check back to either pot control or bluff catch on future streets. On this particular texture our exact hand doesn’t work well as a bluff catcher and it can’t really get value from worse. If we had a check back range in this spot perhaps some weaker Ax hands (though how many of those are we squeezing here pre ante?), as well as sometimes QJ/JTs (not clubs) that we chose to play this way instead of flatting. I don’t think it’s bad for us to just bluff or value bet our whole range here.

Really, really liking this series. I really like your explanation of opening bet sizing pre and post Ante/position dependent. Great way of presenting and are very easy to follow. Looking forward to the rest!

Yes enjoyed Part 1… Your point re: raising slightly > than 2x post ante was interesting and one I will look to incorporate into my game, based upon the analysis you have done… Onto Part 2..

GREAT video. Love the explanations and details. Although I like seeing what people are folding, the video was fantastic.

Really good vid Matt. Great to hear a fellow brit as well for a change. Skipping the unplayed hands is a nice change as well. I think this gives you move time for the detail on the hands you do play. Loved the detail and pace of the discussion on these hands. You’d clearly prepared for the vid which Im not sure all the pro’s do and crunching come poker stove mis vid is the icing on the cake. Well done!!
