    Guys,

this is really good stuff here. can’t wait for the rest. it’s given me another exciting way of analyzing my histories and get better reads and narrowing down ranges.
so on the last hand there. i know v checks the flop and his range was narrowed. don’t know if it helps the discussion, but can’t he still have AA in his range? i know the flop has the FD and SD. not knowing too much about v, can we say that he doesn’t think hero has many FD’s in his range that he has to protect and if hero doesn’t have an ace, then betting flop will only get hero to fold there-by not getting any value for his set of aces. the only way is to check hoping hero bets which he does. the turn brings the 2 which goes cc. so from v point of view, if hero had the flush he most likely would have bet the turn. and also hero would prob bet 44 for the straight as well im guessing. on the river v can almost discount a flush from hero and lead out as he did hoping to get value from smaller aces and pairs?
i guess whole point being can we eliminate monsters (the only one being AA for a set of aces) from v range on the flop because he checked. like i said, don’t know if it changes the discussion at all.
    thanks again.

    Glad you’re enjoying the series!

Actually, the main reason for mostly eliminating monsters from villain’s range for checking the flop is simply that we have some strong blockers to most of them. When we have A5ss and the Ac is on the flop, there is only one combo of AA possible, AhAd. The same goes for 55 – only 5h5d is possible. There are 3 combos of 33 available, but considering that when villain has bottom set they’re very likely to try to get maximum value from our Ax hands, I think the chances of them slowplaying 33 are slim. They may slowplay the flop with some frequency with each of these hands, but even if they always slowplay AA, 55 and 33, that’s only 5 combos of hands total – it’s hard for that to be anything more than a tiny fraction of their range in a given spot on the flop. If they’re employing a mixed strategy with those hands and sometimes betting, it’s even smaller than that.
