What’s up guys!
I will be playing in the Colossus II event this year, I played in it last year as well.
I just wanted to put out some good info to save a bit of money. If you sign up for the Total Rewards card (which is required to play in WSOP anyway) you can get 5 days comped at pretty much every Caesars Entertainment hotels around the USA.
Last I looked the RIO had week days free for comps, but the weekend was brought down to 45$ a night. Or you can stay at Harrahs on the weekend for free.
Once you sign up for the TR card, goto the website, and click book room. Then search by flexible dates in the desired month (june or July.) Then it will show multiple rooms for the coming weeks, and what is the comps or rates.
I have done this multiple times, and have not used any reward points.
GL all, and hit me up if you are going to be in Vegas for the Colossus event!

When was the last time you used your card? Your points expire after 6 months of inactivity. Points are separate from offers, though, so it may not make a difference. They announced a poker rate based on whatever the code was in the press release. You can compare your rates when signed in vs. the poker rate and see whether they’re any cheaper. You can always cancel your reservation if you book directly through totalrewards.com, but I don’t know whether pending/canceled reservations affect your future rates. Conspiracy theories abound. There are whole Yahoo! Groups (remember those?) about them.
Awesome thanks for the advice, Hopefully can meet some TPE’ers while im out there!

I’ll be out here since I live 20 mins away; Just an fyi to you guys, they do run some shitty satellites on wsop.com; they run for most of the smaller events and I believe they are paid out in those tournament lammers so they’re good for any event. They also have one pretty dope 200$ direct sat to the main with 25 seats gtd. gl boys.

So…my wife is taking our daughter for a visit home to her home in Indonesia for a month around the end of May. I’m sort of thinking this is destiny. I accidentally ended up in Vegas for the 2007 WSoP but I was playing $1/$2 cash back then. Wandering the halls and seeing the pros was super cool and I’ve been planning to come back ever since.
I’ve only played the fast and small live tourneys at my local casino here in Vancouver ($80-$100 rebuys with 20min levels. Played 5: won 1, FT 1, final two twice, middle finished the last on a couple coolers.) but I’m playing a lot online and studying something most days. I’ve played live low stakes cash for much longer than I’ve played online so I’m actually more confidant live.
So…
Can I get some advice on the best time to come to take advantage of TPE plans and what I might play and how long I should stretch time off to maximize the experience?
Sounds like I should be anchoring my time around Saturday, June 11th at least!
I was listening to some of the podcasts recently that gave me some ideas about what I might approach. My bankroll is just what I fund form my day job. I’m not a rich man but I do ok and with some planning I think I can (without fear) play a couple casino ~$300 deep-stacks, or maybe a ~$500 but toying with the idea of playing a WSoP event.
For a WSoP events around this time, I think the colossus is too early, but might be possible. It looks like the Millionaire Maker $1500 on the 10th/11th and a $1k on the 12th may be my only real options. The structures look similar with with 7500 starting in the MM and 5000 in the $1k. I’m not sure what the field sizes and payout % is?
What are the satellites really like in structure, buy-in and field size?
Def try and come for the meetup if you can! Millionaire Maker will be a good event, and compared to those daily turbos you are used to you will feel like you have all the time in the world! You could also check on the Planet Hollywood schedule as those are really good tourneys. And for some great value (although not with the best structures) the Rio Deepstacks that they run every day are a GREAT value!! And you can play a ton of those in a short time as they run like 3 or 4 a day!

If I can convince work to let me work remotely for a few days I might be able to span the time between events at the start, so… What do you think of the Colossus II? Do you think planning 1-2 bullets for this plus some deep-stack casino tourneys would be better value for me than a single shot at the Millionaire Maker?
The Colossus day 1 flights are only 30-minute levels (60min for day 2+) but…
This year, the Colossus will use a new payout system which will see each starting flight play into the money. For each flight, a separate payout table will be produced based on the number of entries in that flight. (Example: 1,000 players enter Flight B, thus 150 players will reach the money).
…so starting with just 5k chips, day one ends with level 18 which is 3,000/6,000 (500 antees): ….._14902.pdf
…that seems kind of hyper, no?
The Millionaire Maker looks like the same structure but 60min/level from the beginning and 7,500 starting stack.

You could also check on the Planet Hollywood schedule as those are really good tourneys. And for some great value (although not with the best structures) the Rio Deepstacks that they run every day are a GREAT value!!
Do they run different games during the WSOP? Last time I was in Vegas, I stayed at Planet Hollywood and while the tournaments were easy enough, they were super fast and had a very high rake %.
What are those Rio Deepstacks? I am interested to know why you say the PH tourneys are really good, and why the Rio’s ones are great value?
FWIW, I’ve never played the PH mtts, im just basing that on what a lot of other people (who I trust) say.
The Rio Daily Deepstacks are pretty quick structures. But are SUPER soft and often pay like $35K for first. Hard to find one day tourneys where you can ship that kind of money.

Cool – not saying they are bad, just curious as to the ‘why’ here.
Unreal about those dailies at the Rio. Wow.
I’m going to be in Vegas for a few days over the last week of October/first week of November and want to cram in as much MTT time as I can. Was just thinking the Aria $125 tournaments, but will have to look at the Rio’s (or do those only run during the WSOP?).

TOTAL REWARDS CREDIT CARD. Get one. I was going to lose my platinum status (for lack of gambling) but was given the offer that if I got their visa card I would maintain my platinum status as long as I had charges of $4,000 a year on the card…put your groceries on the card and you get platinum status (if I have understood the offer correctly). Now, if you’re someone who is in debt this is not a good deal because I think the card has some sort of ridiculous interest rate of 23.99%. I know everyone wants the points for free meals but having the platinum status in Vegas for the summer is of very high value imo. last year there was a cab line at Planet Hollywood to get to the Rio that was over an hour long; I got in the Platinum TRC line and was gone in less than a minute. checking into hotels, going to the buffet, registering for events…all much easier. it is something to look into
It really depends on who is deep in what of course…but I know that Marc Alioto, Myself, Tim Kelly and RonFez will be there at that time so will be there if we are not in anything. Pretty sure TheGinger and Cory will be there at that time as well. I’ll try and get a feel from the other pros to see who will be around!

Looking forward to hanging out with you guys again, it’s been too long. Will be at the meetup unless I’m in the milly maker.
Our hope is always that nobody can make the meetup because everyone is deep in tourneys! 🙂
That being said, if you can make it it will be great to hang!
