Hard to believe that it is almost time already!

Check out this post over at WSOP.com for dates and some of the new details. Hopefully the full schedule will be released soon!

Who’s going? What are you playing? What even are you most excited about?

Will probably be there toward the end again. Watching the final table streams for a month first really builds on the anticipation, and I feel as if I have a skill edge arriving fresh after others have been there a while.

If they do tag team again, would love to partner up with others.

>90% chance I will be there, probably playing a lower-stakes summer and grinding a lot of Golden Nugget/Planet Hollywood stuff but looking forward to it! Would love to hop in the Tag Team event if I get the chance.

Didn’t get to do enough socialising with the TPE membership last year, so looking forward to being a bit more sociable this time around!

I’ll be going. Probably playing the main although its probably not the best bankroll decision.  Do any of you try to satellite in on wsop.com?

Yes. Besides all the random satellites, there is a 25 Seat Scramble, with 25 guaranteed seats. Basically it’s a $200 satellite, and 1 out of 50 get a seat. Strategy is very different when 98% of people get nothing. There are a ton of online satellites to the $200 satellite, which are very soft.

The in-person satellites to the main are apparently much easier to win, based on others’ anecdotes here.

…..urnaments/

It’s heeeeeeeere.

My initial NLHE-related thoughts:

  • Tag team is much earlier this year, and there is a $10K and a $1K. As much as I wish the TPE meetup were at the end of the series, if tradition holds true, I recommend holding the meetup on 3 June.
  • There’s a nice low-roller stretch that weekend, with the $333 online event, Colossus III (why can’t they just call it the Colossus every year?), and $1K tag team.
  • The Giant has 4 Day 1s, each Friday starting on 9 June. The structure is pretty shallow, but it’s a $365 bracelet event so what do you want? 20-minute levels that start at 7pm and run till roughly 2am. The nice thing is people can get into town Friday, check in to their hotel, and still get to this event. (Late reg ends at roughly 10pm, at which time you would have about 20 bigs ;))
  • The Marathon on 12 June is a clever $2,620 event with 100-minute levels, but it still breaks at the end of each day. Shouldn’t a true marathon run all night, with the winner collapsing and dying at the end? In all seriousness, I think there’s a lot of value here compared to other midweek events.
  • There’s a seniors (50+) and a super seniors (65+) again. Maybe next year they will have a 40+ junior seniors event. If a 22-year-old whippersnapper (or Marc Alioto with a fake ID) wins the Main, expect just that to happen in 2018.
  • There are 2 bounty events. The first is 20 June and a “super turbo” (looks like a hyper turbo to me) with 20 minute levels. $1K with $300 bounties. The second is 26 June with a normal structure. $1,500 with a $500 bounty.
  • There are 3 online events: the aforementioned $333 one, a $3,333 high roller one (on 1 July, with the same awful awful structure), and the “classic” $1K on 7 July.
  • The newer popular events (Millionaire Maker, Monster Stack, Crazy Eights, One for One Drop, Little One for One Drop) are all back and at similar times compared with last year.

Other thoughts:

  • Flights are relatively cheap but not as cheap as last year. Of course this can be location dependent.
  • Politics aside, the dollar is much stronger than last year, so that could discourage international players.
  • Hotel rooms are even higher than last year’s all time highs. I’m thinking about going to Tahoe this winter to put some play on my card in the hopes it lowers my rates. Otherwise I might finally come to my senses and not stay at Rio.

I may go the first weekend in June, but I’m most likely to attend the first half of July again, playing some combination of Crazy Eights, 3 July $1K, 5 July $1,500, 7 July $1K online, and the Little One for One Drop, although last year this field was very tough because pros who busted the main seemed to play it. Definitely recommend Day 1A if you do that one, but don’t expect degens taking 1 final shot at a bracelet.

Hope this analysis is helpful!

Good write up Joel!  I may only go for 3-4 weeks this year, so I might miss the tag team, which really sucks.

As much as the Rio will be a madhouse during those $365s they are probably to good of a value to pass up if you are there when they are running.

I’ll start combing the schedule looking for a good meetup date!

Hi all,

It looks like I can make it again, if so I’ll arrive just after June 13, hoping to stay right through until July 18 – planning on railing a TPE’er to the ME FT, if I don’t make it myself of course ;-). (So I vote for TPE meetup after June 13 if possible)

I’ve found an accomm option with great reviews that’s a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom gated condo “across the road from the Rio” (ie 1 mile west of the Strip) that I’m wondering if anyone would like to share for the duration or a good chunk of it? 2 pools, aircon, free wifi, free parking, 1000 sq ft.

It has a queen bed in each bedroom, my wife may be there with me for a part of the time, may be not.

The quote I’ve been given is approx US$2500 (AU$3300) for the 36 nights which seems very reasonable. Going halves in that is cheaper than paying rent in Sydney for 5 weeks!

Or, if anyone’s already got a space & wants someone else to help cover their rent, that could work for me too.

Let me know if you’re interested, will try to keep checking back here, or Twitter may be easier way to get me (@merv_harvey).

Hope to see you all there,

Merv.

Have they got any $8 buy ins? Perhaps a Pokerstars Mini Main Event? They have the Mini Sunday Million and Mini Sunday Kickoff and a mini version of every other Sunday major now for 10% of the main entry fee. I guess I could find a grand.

Seniors for over 50’s? the way we are heading with everyone living forever now 50 is positively young. It’s a scam.

Who the hell has $10000 for a card game? You’d need 1 million dollars in your roll, as a conservative estimate to be sufficiently rolled for the ME. Either everyone is minted or more likely…playing way outside their bankroll limits. Or staked.

Or none of my business. Probably this.

Or I’m just jealous. Definitely this!

I think the % of people who have 100% of themselves in the main event is very very low.

Hey all,

I’ve been taking care of non-poker things for the past couple months but wanted to poke my head in (giggity) and say I’ll be staying at the Westgate July 1–12. It was about $500 for the whole stay, whereas I couldn’t get Rio cheaper than $1600.

One friend is visiting and staying at the Gold Coast from the 3rd through 7th. He plays a lot of cash. Another friend will be there from the 9th till 12th to watch NBA Summer League.

I’ll either play the $888 July 2nd or the $1K on July 3rd. I’ll probably either play the $1K Turbo July 4th or the $1,500 July 5th. I’m definitely playing the $1K online event on the 7th. I may play the little one for one drop on the 11th and then extend my stay if I make a Day 2.

But with me not being at Rio this year I may blow it all off (except for the online event) and play other tournaments. Looking to run up a tab with TPE staff at PT’s and meeting many of you again.

Kind of sad to see myself post this four months ago…turns out I’m now only going to be in Vegas for around 3 days! I arrive on June 1st and leave on the 4th. Some real-life stuff getting in the way this year unfortunately. Hope you guys all have a great series.

Anyone looking for an easy-going Aussie roommate in Vegas?

I should be getting there June14 & want to stay until ~July 18, would especially like to lock up some accomm asap (at least on either end of those dates as I have an AirBnB option in mind but would prefer to stay with other like-minded-TPE’ers if at all possible).

If you’ve already booked a room, or have a comped room, with an extra bed, & want to get some cash back on it, let me know. Or if you have somewhere in mind but haven’t booked in yourself yet either.

Looking forward to the meet-up at PT’s again, I may even attempt the royal art of shuffleboard this time.

GL GL all!

Im pretty much there now and I’ll continue to be here all summer. Probably sleeping in the Nitmobile or crashing on whichever couches come available.

Here is a link to my package for the 2017 WSOP Main Event. Check it out if you want to get a piece!

What’s up everyone.

I’m sorry to say I won’t be going to the WSOP 2017 to donate thousands of $$  lol  It will be the first time in 6yrs I haven’t gone.  A few professional things are going on at work and 90% is that I haven’t been running good at all this year.  My volume is way down both live and online.  Been somewhat happy with my play, but just not running like Jason Mercier or Joe McKennhan at this time.  I’m going to sit back and play some Borgata (AC) and Parx (Philly) instead.  Hoping a bunch of you guys crush.  Going to suck not hanging with any of the TPE guys or getting to stop by the house and hang like the last few years.

I only got 3.5 more years till I get to retire from my job (some of you know what I do) then I’ll be in Vegas EVERY year till I can no longer player, LOL

I want to see a bunch of you all on the LIVE streams………..  GLGL all
