Give me some tips on how you got your wife convinced. ha ha. I am sure it would be a great trip. Is this your first WSOP or first live tourney? I love live tourneys. I haven't been to the WSOP and would love to go. The live podcasts of last years WSOP would be a start. Also, there is a good video from Cougars4444 and Hagbard on live tourneys and what to expect.
Actually, it only cost me three hours at the spa and a pizza. LOL. I used to play live quite extensively when I travelled for business. But now I work from home and don't get the chance to visit casinos. I have won tournaments in LV and Tunica.
I'll have to look at the 1.5ks. Might mean anger trip to the spa. lol

Thanks for the continued tips. I do like the ambience of downtown, but have not been to LV during the WSOP so I am not sure about cab avialability and such. Great point. I am too cheap to stay at the Rio – LOL, although I have a couple of consult gigs in China and Chile so I may be able to afford Rio.
I have been to LV during Comdex, which used to be the largest tradeshow in the world and it was always a pain in the ass to get a cab there as my boss was too cheap to put me on the strip, but that was back in the mid90s so must of you youngens probably have never heard of Comdes. Think of the CES on steriods.
I am sure if I bust early, I will be heading over to the Venetian as well as I am not a big cash game guy.

if you can swing getting in a few days earlier to warm up with a venetian that's a good idea. The chips seem short but the structure is so good and the blinds so start so small that there is actually a lot more play in the 1ks than you think.
The issue is that a cooler almost definitely will burn you, and you need to at least double up by dinner but you will have some room to play.

if you are not too picky about “quality” of the room, I stayed at Gold Coast once for like $25 a night and it is right next door to Rio and walking distance. it's not a complete dump, but not high class either
Hmmm,, interesting. I may now possibly in a long shot may consider a trip with that price. Also if some TPE heads may split a room, that would be great! Now thinking….. I mean, who stays in their room but to sleep anyway huh?
As other people have said. The 1k structure is awful but if your just going for the experience than F it. I will advise the experience may be cut short though because it is easy to bust it within a matter of 4-5 hours due to the structure. Venetian deepstacks and Ceasars are a way better bang for your buck if you are looking for +EV tourney.
Ok so in doing a side by side analysis of a 500 buyin deepstacks and the 1k, it seems to me to be a wash in terms of starting stack versus blind times. You get less chips at the 1k but you have 60min rounds versus 40min with the V tourney but you have 12500 starting stack. Hmmmmm – LOL

Thanks Killingbird! Looks like I will be heading there on the 3rd of July. I plan on staying at the Gold Coast. Don’t mind sharing a room if you can put up with a snorer. Like I’ll be sleeping much anyway. I plan on leaving the 9th unless I strike it big or hit a ME satellite. LOL

I am seriously thinking of attended the Venician Deepstack on June 23rd possibly depending on how my roll is. I am also thinking of the Gold Coast to stay. I am not familiar with Vegas other than the main strip. Is Venician pretty close to that hotel?
Probably a 10 minute cab ride roughly. Venetian is rrally nice, so if it is just a couple of days I would try to stay there so you can kind of hang around the strip, to to room for dinner break, etc

I may do that KB. I guess I will consider it a treat if my Bankroll can afford it. i would love to meet the TPE crew in person and hang out or even rail whichever. It would be my first Las Vegas experience for pokering. I had my first poker experience at Aria but that was when I didn't know the difference between poker and spoons. ha ha.
Another good option to warm/up get the wsop vibe is to play in the daily deep stacks at the rio. You are in the same room with the bracelet events, get to start with some deeper stacks, fields are huge, and winning one of them will set you up for a good series. Level of play ranges from really bad to online pro grinders and everything in between. They are one day tournaments and do not have all the levels so you do need to chip up early. Anyway come out a day early and take a shot, get the jitters out and have fun.
Also the recommendation about gold coast is a good one. Cheap rooms, just make sure you upgrade to one above bottom of the barrel and you’ll have a remodeled room with nice beds, LCD tv, etc. You can also look up the $20 trick online, I’ve been successful with that for many trips to Vegas to get an upgrade for a week for a $20 tip.
Enjoy your trip!
Alright, flight is booked – Arrive 7/1 leave on7/8 – Figured to get in early and rail the one drop tournament, plus, I might splurge and go for the 1.5k that starts on that Monday I believe.
I am seriously thinking of just staying at the Rio and calling it good.
I would love to hook up with folks, I am not much of a partier, drinking guy, but I could be the designated piggy back ride for folks as I am 6'7″.
