I am going to have a little fun with a very boring grind. I am going to do a bankroll stunt so I can gain a little bit of a roll. I have only 70.00 in my account. Instead of playing the higher varience games like 5.00 turbos and 3.00 turbos, i am going the lowest varient route for me, I am doing the DONS today. This may be a lofty goal and want to update this thread of my results through the day and make a solid run at it. I may even video this endevour in a little bit.

Black Chip Poker= pokerstevenutz

Goal for the day is 200.00 roll. Let's see if this can be accomplished.

Starting today in 5.00 DONS. Lets move it on up.

I think it's appropriate at this time to take a break which I will be off line for another hour or two. I still feel it to be 200.00 by the end of the day. I have plenty of game in me 😉

i am now gaining a little ground from the runbad. It's growing back quite nicely. now getting back in my positive. 200 is going to come soon. Stay tuned.

KB during my break, went through 1st AZN's DON. I will get it up to 200.00 i a feel it. The problem is these DoN's on Black Chip Poker takes forever to pop up.

16/27 DONS and now the roll is at 93.00. Had to jump into a regular 1.00 MTT Turbo tourney and placed 5th. I think this is due to good bankroll management. Definately nursing this roll definately. I am looking like not meeting my goal. I am still very happy that it's in the black and not in the red.

What did I win today? Well it wasn't 200.00 BUT it was being in the black. The things I accomplished today is that  I didn't donk or punt anything today. I played hard, concentration, took breaks. Another thing I won is confidence. I really needed a good run. The other thing that I won today and I believe it is the biggest one is that I went on a downswing early in this run and got myself as low as 30.00 in the roll. This usually is the death of any poker player. I mentally worked out my tilt by taking a break and just really chilling out for a bit. It was an hour and half long break and it did great. I came back and began to crush.

Now that I am almost 100.00, maybe I will move up to do a shot at a $3 tournament maybe once and the $1 tourneys. I would love to see what the TPE nation thinks about this Don's thing and what would you do to build your roll from $100 if that is all you have and you in no way could reposit if you bust? I would be interested in knowing.

I have been playing dons on Carbon for a while now I agree with mark, in that they are a great way to build a roll. The 50 buy in rule has served me fairly well to grind multiple tables, it does take volume, and a diffrent mind set but its usually easy money. After watching a few vids and reading about them, I took a $40 deposit and started to grind the $1.10's -$2.20's to a little over $200 in about 3 months cashing 3/5 average. If you cant re-deposit, i would deff grind the dons, unless you beleve that you have a skill edge on Mtts-sngs ect.

not to sound discouraging at all, but from reading your posts it sounds like you're very results oriented. goals are amazing and beneficial, but you can't set a goal for winning a certain amount of money, ESPECIALLY in as short a time period as a single day. basically because every single decision point you face will then have varied expectation with varying levels of variance from the mean (actual expectation ad infinatum…that's the word ya? lol..i don't think it is. it's a latin thing) , anyway, because every decision has variance, all you as a person are capable of doing is consistently making the plays that have a net positive gain. results, especially short term, are far from indicative.

the troubles you can get into by setting money goals in the short term include two glaring issues for me.

1- when you win, it gives you more confidence tilt than you would otherwise have, because you feel like you crushed a goal because of hard work/determination/yadayada when the reality is you have absolutely no control over card flow and absolutely no control over results.

2- when you lose, you feel like it's your fault you didn't make your goal. even if you don't think you did anything wrong, the fact that you set a goal and then failed (you didnt actually fail at anything other than setting realistic expectations in the first place), will discourage you.

goals to set are volume-related, or training-related. results goals crush players.

good luck 🙂

those 1 dollar 12 people sngs or whatever they are have to be really soft. i've played the format and people definitely don't play correctly, so maybe try those. they're re-entry for like 30 minutes, it only takes 12 or 18 people before they open up. if you can play with icm considerations in mind during a don and play your 9 man mtt/sng game at the same time, it might help if you're lacking in volume. variance increases naturally as you increase player pools, but fields under 50 are still realtively low variance to navigate through.

if you have absolutely no way of depositing if busto, then i'd opt for the lowest variance route possible because having an edge doesn't mean anything when short term results can bust. even the 1-3 dollar tournaments with bigger than like 50 fields are going to be too high variance. 50 isn't some magic number or anything, it's just that mtts require like 150x buyins or something like that to withstand swings. rivermen said in another thread i saw a bit ago that he regularly has 100 tournaments without any significant cash. well if you played 100 $3 dollar tournaments and didn't make a significant cash in any, you probably don't have much of a roll left anymore. those swings just happen. it's math and inescapeable.

to build a roll from 100 with no room for deposit? run those don's whenever possible, like 1-5 dollars. for a while. introduce those re-entry mttsngs but only like the 1 dollar range because 33 buyins is just too small for mtts. marc (i think?) was in the tpe chat sunday and we all talked for a bit about the formats. 30 buyins of nonturbo don's is a good mark. naturally if 30 is an okay number for 3 people of 6 getting paid or 5 of 10 getting paid, it's likely not going to work for 6 of 40 or whatever. you get the point. 🙂 also cash games. i played the nightly 50 on there a few days ago and played around with the change from depositing all over the place at HU. if you sit at HU 2nl, people WILL sit down and they ARE going to give you money. i played >100 hands against multiple people at a few different levels of the micros (actually higher too lol. i played a 400nl reg at HU 50nl for a few hours. it was a great learning experience. great dynamic and we talked hands and stuff after each hand…sorry for ramble lol) my point is, if volume is a struggle, open up two HU 2nl tables and just leave them open. it's hard to be bored and if you can handle multiple formats (it's tough, but you can increase that skill through experience just like anything else), youll have options for when volume is low everywhere.

hope this wasn't too rambly and helped you out 🙂
