i just cant understant why a proven winning player will ever want to get stacked and therefore give away at least 50% of his ROI??

if u have small bankroll its even better that u can grind the micros that the field its so much easier… whent he roll gets bigger its harder to grind and achive high ROI's… so the smaller roll the better…. why some1 would want to get stacked and play on higher buy ins than his roll?

i just couldnt undesrant it ever….

the only reason to try to get stucked is when u have 0 money… then i get it 🙂

A lot of staked players don't want to worry about downswings and dropping down stakes.  I personally don't run on a stake but when I ask the staked players they like playing risk-free.

What about make-up and “cake” as they call it? Don't they have to pay back what they owe eventually?

it depends.

sometimes there is no make-up per the deal, sometimes it's just a package deal, sometimes horse will only have to pay back % of cake if no wins for X amount of time.  I'm sure I'm missing something…

it's all different, there really are no long term no makeup deals that i am aware of, but you can get 80/20 deals for a single tournament no makeup.  Usually horses are not reponsible for makeup, but sometimes people have deals where you can't leave in makeup.

I'm sure there are some long term 80/20 no make up deals out there.  Not that I would want to be part of one.  Life tilt if I go win $50K

There are many reasons why players get backed, some might have just one and some might have many reasons……

Some players get backed because they feel the backer can help them improve and get to the next level.

Some players just suck at BR mgt.

Some players get backed cause it allows them to take shots.

Some players get backed cause they dont want to be pressured in a DS with their roll on the line.

…….just some reasons

here is a good enough reason:

i got backed because of no $, so this was the deal

$4.40 to play the PS 3k

cut 75/25  no make up  25% to me if i cash, if i cash though make up is paid 1st then cut is made.

60/40 if i FT

55/45 for top 3

50/50 with a win no chop

well i got 1st/960  won $695

so with no risk at all to me i walked away with $345, starting BR=0 ending BR=$345

Staking is an intensly personal choice and I think there are a ton of reasons both for and against. I think something that falls into this catagory that was overlooked thus far are coaching/profit sharing relationships. This is a nice alternative to straight staking and provides a great tool for players to grow and improve their game with their bankroll and to share the fruits of the mutual labor.
