hello

I didn't want to put “theory” video in the title as it can scare! by applied concept I mean theory mixed with examples. Currently a lot of hand review videos are released. it can be interesting for sure, but from my point of view, there is a lack of interaction and work to do, it is more a show to watch sometimes very interesting, because we can pick up some ideas, but sometimes too much with 4, 5, 6 parts…

I'd like to launch this thread, to put all what we can propose as ideas, if you are interested in?

let's start:

– Flop plays –> CB or not CB, use flopzilla or anything else to study and anticipate turn play.

– before ITM, or climbing the prize ladder:tricky stack size like 24-35 where in my case I'm always not sure and become risk/averse or crazy by fancy play! Raise/fold; raise/call, call shove

– link to the previous one, game flow dynamic concept, adaptation, players profiling

– deep database review, how to proceed to a leak finding.

– block theory

– building range:raise, 3B/fold or call; 4B

– non “orthodox” lines or special move: limp reraise; minraise with less 15bb, squeeze,…

– play in the blinds or against the blinds: steal, resteal, squeeze…

I did put many things, but kind of brainstorming…smile

hello,

Is it me or I feel a lack of consideration for members to reply?

I really think now to move out of the site and will come back in couple of month. I will end my subscription at the end of november.

sorry for this frustration, but I have to say it. I know it is not a really big deal to lose a subscription for couple months @30$ but I just participated in some suggestions with no answers.

no answers on this post, and on others like video schedule, more 1or 2 part video instead of x part series or more x part serie per day in order to don't have to wait 3-4 weeks to see another topics. am I alone to think that way?

thank you smile

Hello –

Sorry I missed this the first time.  As you can see, I post a LOT here and I try to get to every post, but occassionally I do miss one!

We actually do have videos like you suggest and we in fact call them “theory videos”.  Some of your topic suggestions are very good and I will pass them on to the team for future consideration for sure!

Thanks for the input it is always apprecaited!

2 interesting ideas of theory vids caught on video comments:

At 2013.11.04 14:03, loxxii said:
Something I would like to see in a theory video is how to play more of a LAG style. I constantly see players who are opening a lot of hands running over the games. I have an idea of how that’s done, but I would like to see it in a classroom setting so that I can understand it more deeply instead of just winging it.

At 2013.11.06 00:41, ShirleyWilliams said:
I would be interested in a theory video on playing draws. I tend to play my drawing hand too passive unless I’m very short stacked and have no other option. Knowing how and when to bet/raise drawing hands with average stack would help me a lot.

Also, I love your videos series!

+1

I think the 'applied concept video' is a great idea. Lately I bearly even click on the videos tab any more because its the same thing over and over live sweats and hand history reviews. They can be good at times to see how the instructor goes about dealing with certain situations and how he navigates through the tournament but most of the time its bits of information all muddled up and you come away from it not learning much at all. Plus the videos are usually mid to high stakes making them less relevant when you play small stakes(which is most people, judgeing from what I see in the forums). A targeted video that explains a concept through theory and examples is by far a better way to learn imo. You can then say to yourself Ok I need to work on my push/fold game or I need to learn about donk betting or whatever and you'd have a list of video series that teach that specific concept. Then when you watch the video you know exactly what the goal is and what you should have learnt by the end of it.

Andrew Brokos's theory videos have been excellent. He starts off by stating the goal of the video so we know what we're goin to be learning and then works through them with theory and examples while also pausing in spots so the viewer can interact. Really the only reason I'm clicking on the videos tab is to see if he has any new ones out!!

My own personal wish list would be videos about

1) Donk betting

2) Battle of the blinds, from stealing them to protecting them

3) Something on flop play(good and bad spots to c-bet and check raise bluffing) etc

I hope somebody will hear you, for the time being since I wrote this, nothing special happens regarding my propositions and multiple part vid HH reviews are the standard of release (6 to 8 parts!!). no schedule proposed, so I gave up with ideas suggestions. I hope some short applied concept vid will coming up on frequent basis.

I have asigned a bunch of 1 off vids to Theginger45 and he is excited about this project. He will making 1 part vid series where a live sweat meets theory making 40-50 min vids on things like 1.How to play AK 2.KK on Ace hihg board 3.QQ on K high board 4.suited connectors 5. small pairs 6.Mid pairs etc etce etc. the idea is for him to pause recording and fire up when he has these type of hands in these type of spots. Please add more suggestions in the post and we will try to accomadate.

 1. How to do a hand history review.

I don't know where to start when reviewing a session that might include 20+ tourneys. When does a couple of mistakes in hands turn into a leak, how do you know? It could also include advice for getting the mind in gear before you start tournaments, do pros review hands before they play, do they dive right in, do they have goals for their sessions etc.

2. Facing 3bets OOP

The thought process that goes into the decision to call, fold or 4bet

Hi gang. I want to thank you all for both the kind words about my videos and the very good suggestions. I'll try to address a few of these myself in the near future. As DaKid mentioned I am nearly finished with another big theory series, though whether or not it goes up soon is not entirely in my hands 😉

Seriously though videos with a blend of slides/hand history/etc usually require more editing and with Christmas/New Year's etc coming up it's possible such things will move a little more slowly than usual. It should at least be up soonISH though. Thanks again!

glad to see the rebirth of this post 🙂

I will try to explain another idea for training, I will call it 'how to work on your midde-late stage game, identying table dy namics to exploit it?”, nowadays to win MTT, it is not enough to wait for good hands and especially in late stage of online tournament with let's say quite high speed level. so we have to find good spot and take some risk with our stack that start to be eaten up (less than 35-40bb), means 3-Bet light from late position, steal from different position, resteal, even 4-bet a resteal. I focus more on stack where you can do those kinds of move 16bb-35bb (question! where are the limit can we 3-bet/fold with 20bb?, raise/fold with 12bb?). I have seen recently many moves by regular and was wondering what is the thought process during these stages. how we think in terms of range, building range against a type of player. let's say with this guy I will raise/fold this or that type of my range, if this guys resteal I will push or I will make a 4 bet that shows to the guys I appear commit. with what type of my range I can do that? at some point it is very difficult to identify players and their type to make some moves because lack of history and few stat that can't be relevant.

may be I look at something too complcated and have to play more straight forward: push/fold 15bb and less, resteal shove 16-25bb, …but I found that it is not working too much, and the results is often min cashes,as I am not a grinders with high volume, I have to play something different.

so an idea of vids would be that we don't see holecard and just think about range we can play vs dynamics, vs tiny information we've got, identifying steals spot from different position, to climb the prizepool and reach final table with a ecent stack.

when I read my post again, I think my proposition is not so clear 🙂 my english limitations!

another idea it is to have a classroom on how to study and review session, and go deeper in hands review like for all concept I mentionned in this post and building range for different situation, practise post flop play with like flopzilla. Have a kind of roadmap to study after playing.

don't hesitate to tell me if you understand nothing of this post, I will try again 🙂

also all ideas Dakid are great and are sometimes close to what I just wrote like blind defense/attack; faced 3 bet OOP math & parameters we have to take into account.

I think your post is pretty clear, bit long winded but I think people get what you mean. (BTW your english is fine, I only recently started posting here and I just realised how bad I write and english is my native language!! so don't feel too bad). I like the idea, I feel my late game is prob my weakist so would love to see a vid addressing these issues.

Answer to your question- Do you regulary 3bet fold at 20bb? I feel like you should be 3bet shoving at 20 bigs. With regards to raise/folding at 12bbs, I've been experimenting with min raising as a bluff with this stack size as people will usually play pretty honest when you min raise this stack, i.e shove on you when they have you beat and sometimes fold a hand they would normally call a shove with because the line looks so strong. Could be wrong mathematically but I've had some sucess with it lately.
