I'm very interested in learning a bit more about PLO, especially tournament strategy…. Anybody else think this would be interesting?

Ive responded to a simular threat a few weeks ago.

I would really love some PLO mtt content. I've played a lot of PLO cashgames (6max) and did well at those up to 100PLO. For some reason I cant seem te win in PLO tournaments. I play the smaller (full ring) PLO tourney's in all of my mtt sessions, but never get anything going.

I would really love some content on PLO. But perhaps the coaches are not great at playing PLO and don't feel comfortable making PLO content?

panda crushes PLO, and my two deepest FTOPS runs both came in PLO events and i know that BDP5s is no stranger to the game. so i'll talk with them about maybe getting some PLO vids out.

the thing is this, an MTT reg isn't really going to be able to offer much great insight into how to play PLO (no offense to MTT regs, and obviously there are exceptions). we can, however, probably offer good insight on how to play the tournament.

PLO tourneys lack antes, and with everyone getting FOUR cards, far fewer pots will be won preflop. this means that there is far less of an incentive to steal blinds in a PLO tournament. not only is there less money to win, but your success rate is going to be abysmal. so your PF strategy, especially with a shorter stack, will be to play tighter, especially from EP. there will rarely be a reason to open complete trash, and without antes you'll have plenty of time to wait for a good starting hand before getting involved.

and as you get short, you have SO MUCH time to wait for a good spot considering there are no antes. plus, you can't shove, so even when you're short and potting clearly commits you, you'll still find that people will flat you and defend their blinds, so it's really important to wait for a hand that has good equity and not jam a crap hand where all the cards don't work together somehow.

again, i'm by no means a PLO expert, but this is my general approach based on my experience playing them and talking to some friends who do crush PLO and PLO MTTs.

The books by Jeff Hwang are geared toward cash games but are the best PLO books you can find and it's not even close.

It's really a game of trying to make straights. You want to have wraps and draws to the nut flush, etc. Middle sets with no redraws can really suck. You will some times need to fold the current nuts on the flop when faced with heavy action if you have no redraws.

You also need to remember when JT won't make the nut staight.

Above all else try to avoid building pots out of postion at all costs unless you have the stone cold nuts. Good opponents will bet every single type of scare card imaginable in position and make your life a living hell.

i would like to see ANY of the games offered as MTTs online.  The name of the site is TPE, not NLHEPE.  😉  This as long as the instructor does well in the game and is not just doing another game to do another game.

I have heard that  Big Dog, for example, has done very well in HORSE.  Would love to see him do a recording or review of a complete medium or low buy-in HORSE MTT start to finish.

I am against your negativity towards mixed games.  PLO tourneys are so much softer than NL tourneys.  HORSE and mixed games are so soft.  Probably 20-30% of my winnings on pokerstars are in mixed games/ PLO with 1/10th of my NL volume.  I could go to opr to get the actual numbers, but you should just trust me when I say it is very beneficial to be able to play every game.  It also helps you become a complete poker player.  How many of Ivey's bracelets are in NLHE? or HE for that matter? 0.  The guy is a stud at hold'em though crushing the biggest cash games online and live, while still being the best at everything other game.  By expanding the games he plays he adds to his knowledge as a poker player, and every game he plays benefits from this.  Sorry for my rant, but my pet peeve is people hating on mixed games.

I think we can swing some mixed games.  It shouldn't distract too much from our NHLE content.  It obviously woudn't take over and a series here and there is reasonable.

I would also love to see some PLO videos.  I have really good results in PLO tournaments:

NuklearWintr  Click for details 172 $35   $18   138% $6,056   LWLLLLLP N/A PokerStars G=O Sch. Only

It would be nice to know if I'm just a luckbox or not.

I have made 3 replayer videos with comments of the games I won.  Each is about 2 hours long.  Perhaps TPE is interested in those and sharing their thoughts?

We are actually very close to releasing functionality where you can upload your own videos for comment.  Should be ready within a few weeks!  Should be fun to watch yours.  more details to come.
