Hi Everyone,
I wanted to make an announcement about a new feature that we are getting ready to release called the Tournament Poker Edge Lobby. It’s basically a dashboard that serves as the new member homepage (instead of the existing homepage that is more targeted to people learning about TPE that aren’t members).
The dashboard contains today’s video, links to recent series, information about your membership (including TPE U progress) and links to recent articles.
We are also introducing a way to favorite videos, articles and podcasts. These will be accessible here as well. The way to favorite something is easy, you will see a link to “add to favorites” next to the titles of content.
We’d love to get feedback or hear about any bugs before we make this the new member homepage.
Here’s the link: …..dashboard/
Here’s what it looks like:
Thanks!

- If this were a possibility, I would love to have a private notes section, so I can view notes I may have taken down while viewing videos. At the moment I do this with pen and paper in a notepad at home. Having this digitally and able to pull them up at any time would be awesome, and accessible from this dashboard (View Notes -> View by date / View by Video, alphabetically and by # in series) is something I’ve not seen elsewhere.
- Agree that watch/read later would be fantastic, allowing us to queue up our own things (at the moment I do this by downloading what I want to watch later, then burning out my max 30 per month quota using this method).
- Also, in testing the dashboard, is the University progress not live yet? I am seeing 0% even though I’ve watched a lot of the videos. Is this % calculated on tests completed, not videos watched?
- Would be cool to have a ‘paste hand history/convert hand history’ function right there in the dashboard to produce bbcode or whatever format is best for the forums.
Great suggestions guys! Will definitely add to the queue for V2 and will see what can be developed. A couple of quick notes:
- Watching/View Later was what the “favorites” was intended to be. Is that not clear? Should we change it from “add to favorites” to “save for later” on each video, and then on the dashboard change it from “Favorites” to “Saved”? I’m genuinely curious because if both of you missed that’s the goal of the feature then we must not be labeling it right.
- In regards to TPE U progress, that’s measured by courses complete. We’ll label that more clearly

This will be a great addition. I always (in the 3 months I’ve been here) thought it was odd the home page is advertising the website even after I log in.
I’d love to see some more University related features beyond just a progress bar, such as “up next” (which for me would be the first exam…been so lazy with those even though I’ve been through all the videos and articles for the first 4 or 5 courses.)
– 1 video series and 1 article, unassuming an exam isn’t what is up next, in which case I’d see only that. When at home I tend to watch videos while at work I tend to go for articles.
– Perhaps for any electives started there could be a separate “up next” section for each.

Progress on video series as well as TPE university would be nice for tracking purposes too. For example, if the dashboard showed that I’ve watched 3/5 of the getting paid series, it would remind me to finish. I could see where it could get cluttered if you’d watched one of a lot of series, but just a thought.

Recommended videos would be nice, based on the videos I’ve already seen. It could be based on pro or topic. Of course you’d probably have to write a proprietary algorithm for that, yeah?Very cool idea. although I admit I have no idea how to do it!
There’re a lot of different ways that can be done depending on exactly what data is stored in the database.
- Manually wire videos. This is the worst solutions and basically relies on manually grouping videos that relate to each other.
- Choose videos on related metadata, usually tags, rating, pro, length, stakes and comments.
- Use all of the above plus track other users viewing habits (that is, correlate to what other users that have seen that video viewed next). This last one will only work if you have that information in your database (although you can start collecting it). It would be similar to that amazon feature of “other users who looked at this item also looked at…”
Implementation should assign weight to each of those values (i.e. a tag coincidence weights 10, a pro coincidence weight 20, length weights 30 – 1 per minute difference) and then order by that weight (and maybe randomize a little bit). Should be relatively simple to build a VIEW into the database that presents that information although depending on the structure of the database it may require to write the algorithm in code.

Another suggestion. Last seen video and next in the series.
Basically registering what the latest video watched was and showing that one and the next in the series. That way it becomes super easy to continue where you left or on the next video of the series if you left at the end of the video.
