I've been playing the $11 Deepstack on stars with great success lately. This tournament has a 5000 starting stack, 30 minutes blind levels and allows (obviously) for a ton of post flop play. Usually it runs about 10 – 14h. Given that I need a very high ROi on average to make it profitable $/h.

So after an interesting discussion with jacobsharktank I decided I will post every time I start one of these and every time I bust out, writing how long I played, the last hand I played and the earnings/position I finished. Using these numbers I will recalculate my earnings per hour and ROI in this tournament.

I do this to increase my motivation and because I want to prove to myself that I am able to keep getting the excellent results I had in the past few month.

If my ROI is below 500% at the end of march and, more importantly, my $/h are below $11/h I will stop playing these.

I plan on playing 2 – 3 of these per week.

I've started my first tourney of the month just 20 minutes ago. It's gonna be a long night… I hope.

Out 611/764 after 1:50 hours of play. Lost with AKo in SB vs button with TT. It was postflop though.

I was about 60 BB deep. Been pretty tight, so I decided I could 3bet squeeze instead of just calling. The initial raiser folded, button just called. I two barreled the 8J2Qr board, mostly because that guy had 0% fold to cbet. Turnbet was a potsize all-in, he tanked for 40 seconds and called with his TT. WP or just a station? I dunno, but he probably correctly put me on AK, as played I think this makes sense. GG, I guess this deep I could've just called pre, and folded on turn, if he bet.

PS: Yes, I'm a spew and I know it. 😀 Unecessary leak early in a deepstack with a decent hand.

Out 312/566 after 2:25h of play. This time preflop AKo vs the super-calling-station fish's 44s (his OPR is 18% over 2000+ games), lost. Well, well, need a better run soon to fulfill my goals. 😀

I got 2nd/423 and 2nd/509 in this just before the summer (Minor brag, lol). I have to say this is probably the best structure of an event on Pokerstars that i have ever played. I think there is also a $22 with similar structure. I had to stop playing the $11 though as it starts 4pm and i was playing headsup until 7am both times I made it that far and that just cant be sustained.

The reason I'm doing this is because I love the structure and can play normal tourneys and SNGs along with it. I won this twice in the last 3 months and had 2 more FTs and pre-FT busts, so I wnat to see if this was only very positive variance or not.

Just registered again, 10 minutes late. Ahoi!

hey sen just wanted to jump in again since i think i might not have explained variance properly. a super high roi in tournaments isn't going to be 500% overall, and i don't think youll make the hourly you expect, when you've played this tournament 100s of times as opposed to as few times as you've played it. That's nothing to say about your skill or leaks on the table. It's really just the complexities of tournament poker, and how “lucky” you need to be in a given run, especially one that lasts as long as that game runs. here, read this article on variance. i recommend that everyone skimming read all the articles, as it shows you just what variance means and what short term samples can produce.

Out 391/566 after 1:45h of play. KJs vs AA preflop. I was a shortie and didn't get any hands for quite a while. Lost with AJ on a dry board vs a rivered straight most of my chips before.

Had another try a few days ago. I played less than 5 minutes. 2nd hand I got dealt was QdiamondQheart in the BB. Button limps, SB raises, I reraise, button calls, Sb folds. Flop was T76r. Button checks, I bet 1/3 pot. He tanks for a while and shoves. I call. He showes JJ and turns trips. GG.

Started the $11 Deep about one hour ago, again.

Out 105th/678, 99 paid. I had T8s, flop was TTQr. The other guy made a cbet of little less than half. I called. He checked the 3 turn. I bet about 1/3 pot. He called. River was a K. He waited a bit and shipped. I had a call of 4:1. I called and he showed QQ. Never would have put him on that hand (sick donk lead on flop), but AJ and KK, KT, AT were all in his range, so I think I should have folded. The reason I didn't is that this guy was very aggro postflop and I thought he felt he might have FE with a worse hand because of bubble. Playtime: 5:30. Ouch. Glad I am still deep in another tourney.

stats for now:
