Hey there TPE. I know few of us read/post in this area, but I'm sure at least some of you have talked hands with me, be it on skype or in the forums. If anyone ever wants to discuss meta-game (please please please) or talk spots, feel free to hit me up on skype at jacob.tryba I'm usually invisible/signed off but I'll get the messages and I tend to jump on and am more keen to chatting weekends or if I'm one tabling during the week. Say hi say whatever!

I wanted to outline my goals for the first quarter of 2014 as I feel I've come to a point in my life where I've got everything I need and want from my current situation. I have a good job that more than covers my living expenses and debt repayment (student loans are a nice way to tell someone 'yo we artificially increased the price of school by increasing the supply of students and then we posted record profits with our sports programs where no one but a select few see a dime of it! hope you like scooping ice cream!!!'). I have low expenses, no car, nothing I consider a vice, I don't drink, and I have few commitments. Over the last several months I've more or less separated myself from the diy music scene and culture that I spent 4 years fostering and aiding in anyway I can, and now that I realize I actually have far fewer very close friends than I thought initially (believe me this is a good thing and a relief…I hate feeling like I let people down), I am more open to the idea of moving on with my life. I ran a music venue and played in a punk band for several years and had tons of fun. Old friends have moved or moved beyond shows, new people at the old spots, etc. Ya know how it is. It was an amzing experience, but it looks like that part of my life is over. I've talked music with KB before, and always get a laugh whenever Face to Face gets brought up on the tpe podcast. It's a daydream of mine to talk ska punk on the podcast after binking a 5 figure score haha. Anyway, I am settled into my job, and there's this huge dichotomy between my life now and my life even 4 months ago. Last September I was like 4 people away from playing poker professionally and not just riding out variance living off basically all of my profit for the few months I did. I lost a flip which amounted to a cash for like $1500 at 15th where a large portion of the final table made $5k+. It doesn't phase me, and that's really important to me. I work very hard on my mental game, and I'm proud that I can lose a flip for basically $1000's-10000's and be fine and magically happy with my play the entire tournament or whatever. After losing I quit poker to dismantle my bankroll for life expenses and whatnot. I currently have $2800 in credit card debt, $30000 in student loans, and a poker roll of 3k. My credit card debt is interest free and will be paid off over the next two or three months, still interest free. I'm prepping now for my trip to the WSOP this summer. It'll be my first, and ideally not my last.

So now that I'm settled, I have a goals list written out. Last night, coincidentally, I took 2nd in the Bovada $11 10k for $1700.

This is a goals list chart whatever for February 24th through May 26th.

– Play 500 tournaments. ~167 a month ~42 a week. This is a really important goal for me. I tend to slack off in volume when I run bad and lose motivation, and for someone working full time in an office as it is, I'm short on time to fill in play. To combat my lack of volume during the 9-5 hours, I study an immense amount of work while running code, and there's a ton of that.

-Play 200 6 max DoN (turbo or nonturbo). This is something I can do during the week even when not feeling like I can play my A- game for very long due to work or bedtime constraints. I have played I think 50 between 6 and 55 depending on where my bankroll sat at the time over the last two weeks, and they seem very easy. I'm pretty good with iicm and see tons of people misplaying their hands 4 handed. People are way too tight and the regs don't adjust well. 50 tourneys isn't very many hands, but I have 1k hands on some of these people and I'm sure they must be calling too tightly, like not even on the bubble.

– Review 5 hands post-session for each session. I don't do a lot of review over my own play because I tend to look for hand histories to read through myself. This is a glaring flaw in my post-game attitude and really just comes to laziness. I take notes of hands as they happen and this will force me to take better notes for study hours later when the games are over.

– Perform database analysis the 1st of each month to look for my leaks. This one is interesting as you can filter pretty finely (this is how I got my current job lol) with stats software and while you won't have a ton of hands where you introduce a ton of interdependent variables, even one hand in a big pot is enough to show you mistakes, even past ones you've since plugged.

-Post 5 hands to TPE for discussion per week. Again, it's laziness. I feel I'd much rather read and comment/talk through someone elses hand history than my own, and that's ridiculous. I need to self-analyze as well. I don't even think I have an ego problem with poker. I just think it comes down to laziness. The material is already there and I just don't end up wanting to write up more. I'd rather respond to something I haven't seen. Thats bad. Gonna fix it.

-Comment on 2 hands per workday. This amounts to 10 hands per week Monday through Friday. I regularly post here in the forums and this shouldn't be difficult. I get downtime in between programming and meetings that I can routinely find 15 minutes or so to do this.

– Listen to two Thinking Poker episodes per week. I live about 2 miles from home, and I don't own a car, so I walk. I used to own a scooter, something I paid for with poker, and it was stolen after a month of owning it. On these walks, I routinely listen to strategy. I likely will be incorporating TPE's Midstakes Living podcast as it runs as the meta-strategy to be picked up merely listening to those doing what you want to do is amazing.

– Watch 150 training videos. Welp. This one's gonna be rough. We'll see how it goes. I'll certainly keep track of what I watch. The first thing to get me on track for success (where I credit as an inflection point in my education in poker) was a friend from school giving me a schedule of pokerxfactor videos to watch and take notes on prior to him backing me for midstakes on old Lock. I learned so much by forcing myself to watch and I felt ready to crush after only a few short weeks.

I have routines written up for pre, during, and post game session which include my light exercise/streching, prepping food, drinks, bananas etc. I think finally writing everything down is going to do wonders for my mental game.

I am in the process of talking to theginger45 for coaching, and I'm very excited to talk more. I will post hands/links to hands here, updates will be here, etc.

My bankroll currently sits at $3200 after even cashing out a little bit to replace our broken record player and speaker set up 😉

I have $1800 on bovada and $1400 on intertops. Intertops is a little iffy because there's no volume for mtts, but sng traffic has seemed to pick up and those DoN's are juicy bankroll builders. I am planning to play much of the current small stakes bovada series running. take care tpe nation!

took a break for a few days to go to gainsville. i wrote and practiced some songs with a friend. we both got less than jake tattoos too. first tattoo. kinda cool i guess haha. i got home a little later than intended and missed the heads up tournament i wanted to play, but i got into a decent mix of games that i thought were great. i won a ticket into a 109 that i'll probably use for a championship series tournament.  i also final tabled a $22 ds that had 12,000 in the prizepool. I cashed for like 360 or so. thanks to my rail as always. steve steve and jason were there watching for a bit when we were all in a few things. i had a few interesting hands, but i'm a little tired and have work in the morning. i'm not on as much of an adrenaline rush as thursday night's cash, so i can't make it through a long winded report haha. but my current bankroll update is:

Bovada: $2017 + $109 ticket

Intertops: $1400 (cashes at 600 a week, but at 10% sadly)

My plan is to sort out coaching, buy a computer and monitor, and roll with bovada with what I have and keep whatever's left in my poker bank account for now.

a few guys were telling me about tournament indicator. does anyone have anything to add on the usability? i don't really want to drop $80 on a HUD that tells me what I know already by watching the tables. being that it's anonymous, there isn't the added value of storing hand histories..so it's only useful for the one time. I only play 4-6 tables really at most these days, so I can get by without a hud on this site, but definitely missing spots probably. I want to add more tables as I can handle it and as I get the monitor space (buying a computer this week) because I've been stuck on a 15 inch laptop screen for a long time. I'm not really wanting to mass multitable, but if I can comfortably handle another 2 tables, I see no reason not to add them. In fact, not adding them feels like I'm losing value. If my roi remains constant (it wont, but just hold this fixed) between 6 and 8 tables, 8 tables should be what i'm playing (assuming my roi doesn't happen to remain constant while cashes fluctuate more because of adding two tables and messing with my game). I've posted on a few things today. I'm looking at a few tournaments on the bovada schedule later today as well.

Hey TPE Nation!

Last night, I cashed out another $600 from my Intertops account. Today I'm going to start looking around for the things I need to build a computer. If anyone can help me build one, or point me toward someone who can, I'd be sooo appreciative and I'd def owe you a favor. I can't cash out another 600 until Monday due to software limitations on my account, but I get paid Friday, so I'm hoping to get this ordered and set up so I can have it by Monday/Tuesday either way.

Yesterday marks the beginning of my challenge. I'm not sure how many tournaments I played, but I can check when I get home from work and update again. I played a decent session between 6pm and 2am. In that time, I final tabled a deepstack turbo $15, ran deep in a $33 with 9k in the prizepool (flopped royal draw in multiway pot sitting around 22bb, so ended up with two many chips in the middle to ever ever fold and brick brick), and then final tabled a $109 that had 144 people in it. I parlayed that from a $11 satellite victory.

I had planned to save it for a championship series event, but I feel I can and should try to satellite into more. I didn't really have a reason for using it other than felt like playing it. I say that because I want to be open with everyone. Since I didn't really have a reason, I feel it may have been a mistake, even though I ran far with it. I ended up busting 8th for $460ish after roller coastering all game. KJs>AJo early on when I reshoved 17bb. AK>AJ for heaps when my image got me called in a 3bet overshove where I didn't think I could get a full stack any other way being oop, a bunch of others. I was 1/15 and 2/8 at one point. My rail Steve and Jason were great and helped keep my confidece high as I navigated the tournament with relative ease. It's great to see how normal/soft this game still is.

I played til late Sunday and last night, so I'm going to take a break today and try to get some rest. I may fire up some don's on intertops if the 15's and 30's are running, but I don't know how I'll feel later. I'm always very tired when I get up in the morning, but somehow by 5pm/6pm I am ready and motivated for a long mtt session! Yah I've looked at the schedule

…..bovada.pdf and it doesn't look like there's anything special going on today, so easy to pass up. What's not easy to pass on are those side games. Tomorrow's big game is a $22 with 10k in the pool. Anyone with $22 usually also has $11 and another $11 and a little more etc. Most rec players prob have the means to play another tournament if given the option. I'm glad they don't eliminate the daily schedule while these games run. There will also be a $11 10k, and it's great to have multiple shots at big cashes in small buyins.

Current bankroll: $2298- Bovada

$830- Intertops

$440- Poker Bank Account

Can anyone recommend specific episodes of the TPE Podcast or Thinking Poker? My roommate drove me to work today after my late session, and my phone died Sunday night, so I haven't listened to any podcasts in a few days. I fell asleep listening to Timex on thinking poker, so I'm looking forward to that later. Coincidentally, I opened twitter to read through some pro tweets and saw that he started following me. He only follows like 1k and has 17k followers, so I thought it was kinda cool. I haven't tweeted anything useful at all, nor is my page popular at all. I had made it that day and added a bunch of pros to orgnanize it for myself haha. Anyway yah. Podcast suggestions? I really enjoy people like Ike Haxton and Mike Mcdonald, people whose thoughts are related to the equilibrium of various poker concepts, like talking about meta game such as tournament structure or deal making. I live for the strategy talk though. I need to hear smart people say smart things so I can steal them. I like adding new things ot my lag style of play.

I've checked out today's schedule for th econtender series and I think I have an idea what I'll be playing tonight.

8pm there's a 10k gtd $11 250bb stacks (there's also one of these at 9:30 with 150bb stacks)

9pm 2k gtd FLO $11 super stack as well. This one will be my autopilot game as I think the fish will likely play too many hands and I'll just nut peddle in position. I used to love playing o8 and it's very likely there won't be anything close to a “specialist” anywhere near this field.

10pm 6k gtd $16.50 turbo 250bb stacks.

So we have $11 10k, $11 10k, $11 2k flo, $16.5 turbo 6k, $55 25k

I've played about 50 mtts since Monday, well on my way to hit my goal. Perhaps I should have introduced a stretch goal?

hey guys new thread i started asking for thoughts on a possible sleep schedule change! currently ive been regging from 6pm-945pm with the better games being toward the end of my session. I potentially go into work very tired, which then somehow translates back to me feeling great/well rested by the time I get home from work. I'm thinking about eliminating the earlier games and sleeping more then as to aleviate the loss to my sleep during my later games. I'd sleep a few hours after work, get ready and play, then go back to bed, then go to work. I won't do this every day or anything. I play more than most people because I try to get in volume when good tournaments run, and this series on bovada won't last long.

TPEEEEEE.

Okay so I played like 150 tournaments in the last 10 days, with I think 3 days of no poker at all and 1 of a very small session. I think the mtt goal is very attainable at this point and next week I'll make a guess at adding a stretch goal. I 8 tabled for the first time in a long time yesterday and it was very comfortable. I added more micros than I normally play so I didn't risk as much trying it out. I plugged my laptop into our tv with a short hdmi cable, had my record player spinning the new Less Than Jake album, and had myself a nice awesome session. I'm excited to put my computer together and start playing on a desktop with a 23″ monitor instead of this shitty 15″. A friend of mine put several builds together on a parts website for me to look through, so I'll probably do that later today. We're going to see Buster Bluthe (Tony Hale, Arrested Development) perform some material at FSU later today. We're huge Arrested Development fans so this is kind of amazing. So last night's session was great. At my final stretch of the evening, after a 2nd place in a small field for like $100 as my only cash, I had 3 tables. I was 1/14 or something in the $25 3k, 1/120 frm 340 in the $55 10k (with over 100bb), and 6/16 or something in the $109 10k that ended up havin between 13 and 14000 in the prizepool. It was amazing and surreal. There was something like $4000 profit as possible profit and not including the $55 tournament. I flatted an utg 3x with JJ on utg1 pretty deep. lost to AA on AJ44x lol total cooler and not bad at all. Take care TPE!

Throwing this out there now. I have a guy who wants to put up a chunk for the Bovada Championship Series Main Event. It's a $425+25 tournament with 500bb and 20 minute levels and a $300k guarantee. The Contender Series going on right now has, imo, brought about an even softer field. I can't say as much for the Championship Series, but I'm pretty sure that sports bettors will want to gamble hundreds in these tournaments in bigger droves as well. I imagine there's a slight possibility in increase in good regs in the 700 person field, but there are no HUDS. I will have tournament indicator where most decent players on bovada still don't have a hud (including myself until I put the computer together). I know how to use a HUD and use it all the time, but since playing bovada it's been fewer tables and more reads. Anyway, most likely playing this tournament. It has an unheard of 6% rake, making it even sweeter.

So here's a breakdown if anyone's interested.

10/9 markup for even $500.

5% = $25

10% = $50

etc. I told my friend that I wanted to offer shares up to my friends at TPE first. I know Jason mentioned he'd buy a piece, so yah. Reserving is fine, just looking to see how much I'll have of myself. I'm probably going to keep around 25-40% of myself.

I have sharkscope graphs on a few screennames. I have like 2000 games and an average buy in of around $15 and like 11,000 in profit. I can't remember and I actually used my sharkscope points up already earlier. But yah look me up if you want.

Jacobshark = revolution

jacobsharktank= oldblackchip

jacobsharks= merge, i've put probably 500 on there total? i just movedto play poker maximus and didn't play a ton. like 150 games and i got 15th in the $215 main event.

jacobsharkta= lock, i think. these are all my names but i don'tremeber which name belongs to which site haha. I was backed there a month or so before we stoppd because locks instability, but mostly on my own dime not sure about bankroll management. I cashed out my roll when I started getting backed.

Woo and KB just swooped in for 10%

I'm down to swap or sell for another 10% if anyone wants to grab it. I'm gonna work on setting up my paypal stuff for those that need it, but bank deposit works for me too. In the event of a big score, we'll have to move around through bank transfers probably anyway because bovada doesn't have p2p and i feel %-based fees could be avoided that way.

I'm registered for the $55 50k main event on Sunday. If anyone wants to swap a decent chunk, to increase chances of decent money in a larger field than normal for US sites, let me know. We can keep a tab going if it comes out to something like under $50 difference in either direction, really. I'm only looking to have more sweats in the tournaments and have fun. I'm sure anyone on here that's already planning to play it has an edge in the field, so swapping can't hurt me if my goal is to increase big cash % and increase funEV.

Night TPE!

sorry gotta talk to everyone. ill pm everyone too through skype/facebook, but wanted to make it public too. I got offered a larger chunk at a higher rate than I initially anticipated, and because it's still 5 weeks away, I thought I'd bring it up.

Private Investor initially offered $100 for 20%

Jason initially offered $150 for 30%

KB initially offered $50 for 10%

Steve initially offered $25 for 5%

I got another private investor offer of $150 for 27.5%

That's 1.21 instead of 1.11 as it was initially.

Here's new payouts if everything's okay with it. EDIT again lol silly math.

Private investor $150 27.5%

Jason                $150 27.5%

KB                     $60  10.0% $60 would be 11%

Steve                $30   5.0%  $30 would be 5.5%

woo ill post a bigger update probably thursday or monday. i'm recording some stuff in gainesville this week with a buddy, but wanted to update a little bit anyway.

i spent more money than i wished in the last two weeks on varying life expenses or tangible stuff i've been meaning to get for a while now. i bought that record player, got some new records, got my first tattoo (not even poker related haha), and i actually had to spend like $300 this weekend on drum parts. My friend drove from gainesville to practice and i hadn't realized i was missing like half of my drum kit. I coudn't really turn him away, and we needed to practice, so i bit the bullet and went to guitar center to spend twice as much as i should have.

i've been running up big stacks in a few good tournaments lately, and then punting them. i doubled in the contender main event early on in with a flopped full house in a 3b pot with like an spr of 20 lol. i got all his money in the middle with what was probably top pair. i can't check for two days but yah, really messed with the guys head. i also then got another 8k at like 40/80 by overbet jamming a river with trips on a busted flush board. i hovered around 25-30k for a while, got up to 40k at .5/1k and punted KQs into AKo :/ i told myself the whole time be patient and fold. it's not a big deal. your value in this tournament comes from waiting for others to bust as you take spots. you don't knock everyone else out singlehandedly.

i did turn it around for the sunday with a 2nd place in the $33 7k gtd at 8pm, which had like 10k in the pool. i posted some hands  to the mtt strat forum. anyone have anything to add?

congratulations to carlos and kb for their contender series 1st place finishes.

also, i read these articles when they were posted, and i just reread them. i feel i play the small blind better now that i started 3betting or folding from it with a shallowish stack size. like 25-50bb i started 3betting hands more often than i used to. it seems to be working out. def check them out.

Hey Interesting thread.  I'm in  a very similar boat working lots of hours in a professional career and playing as many MTT's online as possible.  I've also got a bankroll just shy of 3k and I'm playing exclusively on Bovada for now.  We should chat on Skype sometime!  I'll PM you my name.  Rung000d!

Hey TPE.

Haven't fully purchased the computer just yet! I've bought most of the parts but I got lazy when I needed to move money to my checking account haha. I have an account at the credit union in my work but they have yet to ship me my debit card for some reason. I get direct deposit into my credit union, so it's a little bit of a hassle. I'll get on it soon with specs. Very stoked!

Placed 1st place in the nightly 10k gtd 10k chips 10 minute levels tournament on bovada. It's my biggest cash I'm almost sure of it for just shy of $4000. ~80 buy-ins is like maybe 2nd or 3rd relative cash.

After buying my computer and setting aside my cash for coaching, my bankroll is at it's lifetime peak of $5163.23

TPE you and your community did this for me. Let's keep it up.

Thanks for the support everybody! I'm going to watch the hand reading series again when I get home tonight if anyone wants to join in. I'm not in the mood to play a session tonight, but that feeling usually fluctuates throughout the day. I need to get a little bit of study in, as I spent the weekend in Gainesville relaxing and recording. It was a great mental break, and I'm ready to get back to it after I get some study in. I'll check how many mtts I played and stuff later today when I get home. I might be hanging out with a girl today, which is always a plus and will put a hamper in the poker studying. After talking to a live pro in Jacksonville, I realized I should probably add a bit to my life to balance out poker. He said his life was poker and girls. My life is work, poker, music, and like 10% girls. I'd like to increase the last one up to like 20% lol. met a cute girl at this place i frequent for lunch and asked her out. we had a good time last week. mannn it's been good tpe. it's been real good. i won the 10k after she left that night haha

okay ihave this leak where i get home from work and as soon as i pull up my laptop, i'm all set and motivated to throw a session together. today i managed to wait a few hours because i had things to do, but i somehow got 15 tournaments in lol. i busted the $109 10k pretty early ck/calling all in on the turn after cbetting 2nd pair as a 4:1 favorite. he got there tho obvs. felt good though for sure. i had just one final table today in the turbo $44 6k. I had a pretty big chip lead when we were at like 20-22 players from what I remember and then just didn't find any spots. i may have missed some, but it's possible that i just didn't have any. i think it becomes easier for you to go through stretches of no spots in turbos since you play a ton more hands shallow stacked, which means a lot of the time if it's not folded to you, youre folding lol. so yah. i was still 1/12 and lost 10bb shoving utg 5 handed KQo running into AK on the button or something. eff size around table was like 5-10. i had 33bb then. folded Q6o btn with 10bb and i think that was a mistake, esp in a turbo, but i didn't have a chart open and things felt more complicated because everyone had me covered but i still represent a deent chunk of their stacks. id say there were probably 90bb between 4 people at that point. not sure. but i shoved next hand KTo and lost to AQ. not really bummed. got $560 and an $80 $16/hr session (this made me laugh because i make that at work. lol sample size this number isn't meaningful or real, but it made me laugh regardless) . i think i played about 250 tournaments the past month, frmo like 2/20 to now. i stopped counting at 125 and it looked like i was about half way down. i tried messaging theginger to talk about coaching again today but it didn't go through. if he sees this, sorry! i made a check cashout for 2k today. my computers almost all built. i'm looking at the championship series and i'm getting stoked. i feel comfortable playing the 75s with my bankroll and maybe the 100s. not sure. gonna try to keep my abi under $35 but i'll likely sell action anyway so i guess i'm okay with it. i'm also thinking i might just 4 table this weekend and late reg stuff as i bust in order to maintain focus. i dont want to have that much money on the table and be stuck on my laptop. it seems too risky. anyway, take care tpe!!

i see the number of views is going up, and i'm pretty sure it's not ALL me reading/rereading to stay motivated lol, so what does anyone want to see? ill post hands here if anyone asks! should i get graphs going? i can easily spreadsheet tournaments played and then get a graph from that. in fact, i think i'm just gonna go ahead and do that haha. i'm planning to bring my laptop to work tomorrow so i can remember to download a few series i plan on watching, so thatll remind me to do that as well. i usually forget when i'm not playing, and its too much to click back and forth to download all parts and organize while multitabling, so i forget lol. i can't wait to have my new computer set up mannnnnnn

3/20 – Bovada $3242 (+$450 spent in the main. received $30 so far. gonna contact those that reserved shortly)

$2000 check on its way

the majority of a new computer lol. need to order just a few more things, but have no money in a bank account with a debit card!!  i need to get to my bank and deposit there already. my credit union STILL hasn't shipped my my card. oh well.

Nice Job crushing so far man, and just the beginning!

Probably too late on this but do you have any more action available in the BDPO Championship Series Main?  I would be willing to buy a piece or to do a straight swap with you.  I haven't advertised yet but I'm probably going to try and sell up to ~60% of the main and play it.

It doesn't look like I will, but I'll let you know! I would prob be interested in doing a straight swap though. I will be selling for other championship events though. Sorry I haven't been on skype as much. I played a pretty crappy session yesterday. I built huge stacks in a couple games and just nothing came frm them other than I think mincashes. Somehow at 150/300 I was able to get a dude to spaz 20k of his chips into a 3k sidepot. Someone shoved for like 5bb in mp, only other dec stack at the table flats the button, and in the sb I 3b QTs. I figure my hand is ahead of the range of a 5bb shove, there's 7ishbb in dead money if I get the guy to fold, and I'm not worried at all about him having the nuts here. He was pretty fishy up to this point. He calls. I lol'd. His range is like AT-AJ, KT-KQ, 22-99, but he could also have like 87s T9s JTs QJs type stuff as well The board is T22. The main pot is about 16bb and we have a sidepot of like 10bb. I wish I could remember action at this point, but I had just won a big hand an orbit or two again in a similarly fishy spot. I'm starting to realize people play really bad when deep, but it happens more often when antes are in play. Anyway, I believe I ck/called flop (it must have been like a full pot bet), donk shoved turn and he called with 33. People level themselves a ton. Got sucked out on in the $44 6max, the $75 earlier in the day. and the early $55. Oh well.

Can you do me a favor and lemme know what of the championship series youre gonna play? I haven't looked at the sched enough to know exactly what I want to play, but I def think swapping would be fun. My buddy Jason's gonna be in some events too. I only really plan on playing the $75's and $109's but we'll see. I'm already regged up for the main and my roll is like 5k excluding the money to be received for the main.

Hey man, no worries on the lack of Skype.

I agree that people spew when deep and make huuge postflop mistakes, that's been how I have gotten all my chips in most of the 10k starting stack tournaments.  I've widened my preflop ranges a ton in those in the early levels.

I think swapping some percentages in a bunch of the Championship series would be really fun and a good way to reduce variance and improve motivation.  I haven't taken a good look at the schedule yet, but I'll probably put together a tentative schedule for myself in the next few days- maybe after my session tonight.  I would assume I will probably play every $109 or less NLHE tournament and the Main.  I will also be firing off a bunch of sattelites for the bigger buy-in events (though they don't seem to be filling very well yet).  My roll is also just over 5k without having regged the Main yet- so we're both in pretty similar situations.  The way I see it is that I will also be playing my normal MTTs during the series which will bring the ABI down a bit.

Besides, we're ballers. wink

I kid I kid, but you're absolutely right.  I was feeling pretty good about recent success and need to make sure I remember that variance kills everyone!  Just gotta keep playing during times of peak performance and for me the big thing is not over extending!  Hope your night wrapped up nicely and hope you had a nice bankroll boost from the 35k.  I'm taking tonight off to get a good night's sleep.

i figured you were kidding, but i realized months ago sarcasm eventually just becomes who we are. i used bro ironically for years. coincidentally i also used bro sincerely for years. lol. gotta stay grounded or else we just foster something we can't sustain 🙂 sadly i took 23rd. like 10 guys had under 10bb lol.

i had 14bb in the hj. co sb and bb had under 10bb and were tight. btn had like 25bb and was tight but still fishy and flat happy in position. i think he was a little decent but didn't know not to play passively preflop when this shallow stacked. no one had busted in like 30 minutes because everyone just kept folding. i don't think i can raise other than all in because the shorties are probably more likely to gii vs a raise (for several potential reasons- perceived fold equity, they like their hands enough to raise but not call all in). btn woke up with AK and gg us. what does everyone else think? i have a blocker to anyone having a strong A hand, etc. any thoughts?

remember variance kills!! i was 22 people from 8k. instead variance gave me $200 lol. on to the next one.

Also, I'm taking next week off work to play more of the championship series and have a little insight into the life of a grinder cool . Would be up for trading action for next week's events!

haha idk how i missed typing it. I had A7o. basically icm isn't a thing in my mind yet because the next 4 players get paid the same, the next jump is like $150 (2.5 buyins) and the final table is really where payouts actually do any shifting. avg stack was 20bb because everyone played ridiculously tight around the bubble (11 tables) and then again at the 4 to 3 table bubble. it was pretty interesting to see. anyway, avg was 20, but like 10 guys had 10bb or under.

actually that said, i realized that these bubbles might be more lucrative than i had initially realized. in the fish-heavy tournaments like the nightlies that have 300+ people in them, those bubbles are way tighter than i initially realized. i was on autopilot for like an hour of the tournament last night and scooted through the bubble with like 40bb and didn't even realize it. i raised prob 80% of hands for several orbits and didn't know why i was getting away with it. it was late. this is clearly a leak though. i may have realized i was getting away with murder, but knowing and doing it isn't enough. i need to understand why. had i realized we were nearing the bubble, i may have even 3b more. i think i may have only 3b light once in the whole tournament actually weird. lol. utg with 25bb 2.2x, he's reggy, btn fish with about the same stack flats, bb is super tight and had like 20. i 3b to 7.4x in the sb with A4o. blockers are cool.

Jacob- I agree about the sarcasm thing.  I think there is way more partial truth to sarcasm then most people consider.  It's hilarious that you use “bro” as an example, cause I used to use it sarcastically a ton and now I actually use it regularly with my new-ish group of friends.  Regarding your bustout in the 35k, let me first say that I could absolutely see myself doing the same thing.  Having said that, I think raise/fold is a very viable option.  Depending  on the dynamic and tendencies of the short blinds you may even be able to raise/get it in vs blinds and raise/fold vs btn.  IDK if it's a good spot for that without having been in the situation but maybe worth a thought.  The blinds are prob. jam or folding there and if you think they will shove ranges like KJ+, A4s+,A7o+ any pp or something like that maybe it's a good line.  Threw that range together as a theoretical example and probably most guys in this spot have a much tighter range.  I blew it in a very similar spot like 12/24 in the Sunday 100k last year and it sucked- get 'em next time!

Jason- Hey man, always looking for more people to chat poker/life with and sweating is good!  I have plans for most of Saturday but will probably be online for a bit in the afternoon/evening.  I would love to chat with you more about trading pieces in some of the events!  I'm gonna set up a tentative schedule for the Championship series tonight and will post it in my challenge thread.  I'll also PM you my Skype and will be on for a while if you get a chance to talk tonight.

The reason I don't like raising there is that I hurt my image a ton if I fold to under 10bb jams, and if I call, I'm calling behind some chunk of the time. Now that we're talking about it, I guess let's figure out what they're calling a shove with (let's say with the sb and bb first). It's probably like 55+ KQ AT+ ? I do'nt know if that's too tight. These guys have strange ranges that don't seem to be fixed, but overall, incredibly tight. If I raise, in my mind their ranges shift to shoving over because they just give up (this doesn't make sense anymore as I write it, but I want to get my thoughts out anyway) and think maybe they'll double up or bust. That range is like 22+ KJ+ A8+ That's like 60ish new combos.

Against that particular new range, I'm only getting 44% equity (this is 22-55, KJ, A8-A9). I think that even though my overall equity increases from 35.2% to like 37.7% , we lose fold equity by all of the additional combos. Does this make sense?

Hey man congrats on the awesome day!  GL today as well.  Starting my grind now ish and will be on Skype,

EDIT:

regarding the hand analysis you posted about I think that makes a lot of sense.  Sorry can't really give it a lot of thought right now on some tables.

I checked pocketfives for the first time in a while, and apparently I'm 1/5 in Tallahassee and 14/125 in Florida overall. That's neat. I wonder how many full time regs/pros in Florida are on pocketfives?
