So I just got back to NJ after a very disappointing showing at the WSOP. Variance definitely got the better of me but I feel like I learned some very valuable, albeit expensive, lessons. One of the biggest things I learned pertains not only to poker but really any path you take in life. Without plans or goals it is very difficult to achieve any amount of success in life. So with that I decided to start up a new Goals and Challenges thread to help keep me on track and accountable. Ive spent the last 6 months without any vision or goal to work towards and that will now change.
Im going to keep my goals relatively vague on here, but I will say that I have come back from Vegas with a real hunger to learn and grow in poker. Generally my goals are to make a permanent move to playing 5/10 NL live and to become a reg in the biggest online cash games in NJ. I dont have a specific time frame for either goal as most of this depends on bankroll. What I have done is set weekly standards that I believe will further me towards these goals.
Every week I am going to play 30-35 hours of live poker mostly at 2/5 NL. I am also going to be playing a minimum of 7500 hands per week in online cash. These may be adjusted depending on which seems more beneficial. In order to grow, I have to do my best to continue to learn, therefore I will be watching a minimum of 3 poker training videos each week. Most will be online cash related but I will be mixing in a few tourney vids as well. Each week or perhaps even more frequently I will try to post updates and throw some interesting hands into the thread. I am also considering getting a coach for online cash if anyone has some good reccomendations.
At the very least, I hope to provide some good entertainment value. Here we go!

I actually landed in Philly at around 11PM monday night and went straight to Parx with my roommate for 2 days. Put in 14 hours between Monday night and Tuesday for a loss of about $270. Didnt really have too many interesting hands come up except for a 2k pot that I lost against a guy who claimed to not look at his cards throughout the hand. I didnt matter much as I had turned top two and got it in. Turns out he had a flush draw and got there. Was really happy with my play during both sessions. I felt like I did a good job of identifying the soft spots at the table and doing my best to play pots against them.
Officially got home Wednesday and started my online grind with some 1/2 and 2/4 NL. Played some interesting pots in a HU game against a guy I thought was a nit(well his 6max stats said he was). Ended up making about $165 over 2500 hands. The HU match really put a dent in my profit so im probably gonna stick to 1/2 for any HU.
I spoke with a nonpoker friend about my new goals and he wondered if recording my online play while I spoke about it might be helpful. I often find myself talking out loud while I multitable because I feel I make better decisions when doing so. It kind of puts me in the shoes of someone making a training video and needing to explain their thought process. If people are interested I might start recording them and putting them on youtube with a link in here. Would really like to hear if people would be interested in that before I get started though. It would certainly make hand discussion easier. Let me know what you think!

So its been about a week since I got off the plane and I am off to a pretty good start. The only issue I have had has been putting in the live poker hours. I only played about 20 hours and those came the two days after I landed in Philly. This has been in large part to the amount of hours ive been spending playing online or watching videos. Ive averaged about 1 video per day lol and ive put in about 11k hands. Ive been playing very good and running very good with the exception of some HU matches ive played. I played one in particular against an opponent who overbet the river fairly frequently but balanced it pretty well. After looking back at that match, I noticed some adjustments I needed to make to not cap my range so much by the time we got to the river which makes it harder for him to freely overbet. I really enjoy the HU play because it just makes you think so much deeper than any other form of poker.
As far as the video concept goes I have figured out how to screen record and will probably attempt it later today during my session. I decided against youtube just because id rather not put my thought process all over the internet let alone let my oppponents in nj know im actually a thinking player. Im gonna find another way so that only TPE members can see. If youre from NJ and are a TPE member ive probably already met you anyway. So if i can figure all of that out tonight I may post something tomorrow with a little session recording.

you setting goals has got me excited about setting goals:) if you are willing to share i'd love to hear updates about your hourly, if you are making more online or live. i had just set myself a “200 hour cash game challenge” where i wanted to show a profit of at least $9600($48/hr…my estimate of what i will need to survive as a pro if I give it a go) while multitabling small stakes at Bovada. i gave up (or postponed) pretty quickly after I was up about $1400 after a 9 hours of grinding but then lost it all in 2 hours and decided I was going to stick to tourneys. eventually i do need to get more serious about the game and move to cash. it would be really valuable to see how you go about your business
