I've never really set goals before 2013, and the ones I did set for 2013 were private…. but I can say I accomplished them and have had an absolutely stellar year. So here is to being more accountable for 2014, and hoping that I can continue improving and playing my best.
I am writing this on the eve of my last tournament for the year. I have a hectic schedule now, so I'll be putting poker on the back burner for a bit. The good news there is I did place 39th in the 5M GTD Sun Mill. So I finished this year VERY strong.
Learning:
– I want to maintain my schedule of watching one video here at TPE per 3 days. This allows me to get through a series in roughly 2.5 weeks, and I've noticed major improvements already from what I've watched.
– I want to get better at doing HH reviews. I need to get more technical in the understanding of what I'm trying to find by doing reviews, and finding my leaks. I think it's time for me to try and review someone else's HH, and have them do the same for me. I have a few deep runs now that are really good candidates, and I plan on getting some more in the new year.
– I want to continue posting constructively on the forums. I find it to help my thinking in regards to players ranges and how to proceed when I'm playing. It also helps remind me of the differences in play styles, and how that effects my game.
Poker Play:
– I want to stay more within good bankroll management. Currently, I play whatever I feel like. While I do have the roll to play some high stakes, I need to make sure I keep it in check and that I still focus on playing Mid Stakes.
– If I play a low stake tournament, it gets 100% of my focus, just as a High stakes would. This is, without question, my absolute WORST leak in the meta game of MTT's. I have a hard time maintaining solid play in any tournament where pay jumps are 1$. I know this is an ego thing, and it's wrong… If I've entered the tournament, my goal should be to make the right choices at every stage, regardless of what the pay out is. If I can't do this, I need to stop reg'ing those tournaments.
– I will stay away from cash games. I have a troubled history with cash games, especially online… so it's best for me to just not play.
– I will always keep in mind that I play this game for fun as the priority. It is not, and will not be my main source of income unless something occurs which prevents me from doing my current occupation.
$$$ and Leaderboards:
– i want to break 150k in online earnings. I'm setting this goal extremely low, considering I'm at 136k now. I should be able to make 150k, and if I do, i'll update it at that point. I want to keep this # low, so i don't turn poker into a rabid obsession in my life. Again.
– I want to maintain my spot at the top of the P5's ranking for my hometown, which shouldn't be too hard, i'm 1 of 7 tracked players I think. A bit more challenging will be to break into the top 20 in my province. I should be close now. I'm going to leave the country spot out of the goals. While it would be nice to crack the top 250, I'm happy with where I am currently.
– For live poker, I'm staying out of my live cash game unless we can play 2/5NL min. I play in a retardedly psycho game, and it is too hard on me mentally to continue playing in it. It also makes me a worse player, seriously. I will mostly avoid the low daily buy ins at my local casino, and focus more on the higher limit buy ins ($100-500).
– I will travel more to bigger tournaments. I am going to play an EPT event, most likely Vienna or San Remo. If I go to the WSOP(I hate paying taxes), I will plan to play at least 3 events.
I think that's all I have for poker goals for the upcoming year. I will add/change this post as we progress!
Cheers to a great 2014 for all TPE members!
You are a good candidate to take the torch from me in 2014 and update this thread weekly as I did in 2013.
I watched you play last night and it's inspiring to see how far you have come in the past few months. Give me hope.
The best advice I got recently was to not shun the live cash games. I am studying them and getting to a point where I can print money in a wild game (maybe similar to yours). This is very low variance and helps tremendous with the effect MTTs can have on your bankroll.
Looking forward to seeing what you do in 2014. I'm a fan.

Quick Jan Review
I'm falling behind on my video watching. While I managed to hold true to this for the end of December, I bought a brand new laptop in Jan and didn't transfer my DL'd vid's over to this hard drive. The network at work is atrociously slow (I'm in the middle of the arctic). It's a bunch of excuses, but it's the truth. I'll just have to up the ante and watch 2 videos per day when I go on days off early mid Feb.
I haven't done a HH review yet. I'm failing in my studies, and that's bad. Studying and improving is actually the most important goal on this list. I must do better.
I have been posting a bit on the forums but it isn't as much as I would like. I will admit I'm slightly put off by the inrush of new posters we seemed to receieve after the holidays, so I've noticed myself doing more reading and less posting. Also don't feel like I've had a good discussion about a hand or situation lately, but I'll put that largely on myself.
As for my playing…
I played 5 MTT's and 5 Turbo MTT's. Work is just killing my ability to put in the time I need to finish them, so I don't even consider reg'ing.
Since I can't play MTT's, I have been playing 30$ Hyper's. I'm not sure where this idea came from, but so far I'm not doing too horrible. I can only play a few a night, a few nights a week so I played 50 this month. I ended up making $37.14 in profit. It's a strange feeling to me to be happy about this, but I am. I suppose that's a good thing. I need to sit down and do some review and studying on this format… I'm quite sure I'm capable of beating it for more than 2BI/100. If not, winning is still cool.
Overall, I'm down $228.96 on the month. Not really a huge issue considering the ABI of the 10 MTT's I did play was $48.15.
I did get a chance to play some Live cash game while I was at home. We got a 5/5 NLHE game going, and I cashed out an $800 profit. I also played a Bounty tournament, which is a satellite to our big monthly $325 buy in. Won my seat and a few dollars as well. Played a 100$ tournament and got 3rd for 800$. Was a great month in that respect. I also kept to my word of not playing 1-2NL in my home casino, which is probalby the 2nd most important goal for the year.
I think that sums up Jan. Need to do more review. Need to keep having fun. Need to find the hours to work half as hard on my poker game as I do my actual career.
Cheers

It was a month later, and was actually a $5,000,000 Gauranteed Sunday Mill. I would of really loved to have crushed that one.
I owe an update. I will get to it soon, but I'm a touch busy at the moment. Have barely been able to play in the last two weeks, but should get in some more sessions soon.

March Update
February was an interesting month for me…. I only got to play online for about half the month, as I spent 6 days in Vegas when I went off rotation at work. The other 8 days off, I managed to play 1 Sunday. So this update is pretty light….
I'm way behind in Vid watching. This is without a doubt my biggest downfall at this point, still. I just don't have the bandwidth available at work to download very many episodes, and when I was at home my days were way to hectic to co-ordinate pre loading my laptop with a bunch. I am going to watch the review of my Sun Mill run that Merfinis did. Been waiting a while for that one!
Trying to stay active on forums. I've set aside 20 minutes a day to read/post.
For my play:
Online I kept putting in sessions of 30$ Hypers. I had a stellar month, starting off with a monster Feb 1 session. I played 4 SnG's on Feb 1, and crushed all 4 for a 10 BI profit. The next 10 days continued good, and I only posted two losing days and 1 break even day. Overall, I played 84 SnG's with a profit of $515.82, for an ROI of 20%. There was definitely some run good in bad spots, but a lot of it was just running well in the good spots.
I played 2 MTT's all month. They were on my one sunday, I played the Sun Mill and the Sunday 500. I got sucked out on bad in the Mill and built a stack in the 500, but it fell apart when some dude went running two pair vs my TPTK. Didn't see that one coming. Didn't cash either, so I do show a loss of $229.18 on the month. Not a concern at all. I can't expect to show a profit when the only two MTT's I play are the top of my buy in range.
I went to Vegas to play in the Venetian Deep Stack events. I would have loved to stay for the Main, but could only play a $400 and an $1100. The play in the $400 is just brutal. I seen play there that reminds me of poker in 2005. Whoever said all the fish are dead is wrong. I fired two bullets(making me a fish I think), and busted way out of the money.
In the $1100, I had to fire 3 bullets. Oops. First one was kind of a funky spot where I should have folded AA on the flop after the BB 4 bet shoves. Just didn't think he could crack AA twice in two orbits. Turns out he could. Second bullet went much better until the guy two to my left went into God Mode. Bye Bye chips. Bullet 3 was the next day, and went much better right from the start. I built up a good stack, and then got moved to a table of death. Beat a fish there for his stack on a questionable hand. Donated most of those chips in a hand I posted on the forums. Survived to Day 2 where I doubled and folded my way to 21st place for a 3275$ cash. Fire 3 bullets, come out down 25$. I'll take it. Note: The field in this tournament was sick for an 1100$ event. Lots of online pros and even a few big name live pros were in the field. It was ultimately won by Christina Lindley. At one point I had her, Jimmy Fricke and Eric Lindgren on my table(not the table of death).
I played some 1/3 PLO and 5/10 HE while state side. Did ok overall. Happy with all my live play for the month.
Away from the tables, I moved out of my condo, as my house will be built within the next few months. It was hectic and murdered my schedule on my days off. I go home again at the end of this month, and won't likely have much down time then either. Hopefully I can put in a few days online though 🙂

I actually just finished watching it last night. I'm happy to say the last two where easier for me to watch than the first two.
I plan to do a write up on my thoughts of the video soon. I'm just waiting to get home so I can watch it again with my HH review I did beside… There are a lot of spots in that video where I was scratching my head trying to figure out what the hell I was thinking. Which most likely means I wasn't.
