I agree that goals and objectives are a great way to motivate yourself and improve but in poker results oriented goals can become demotivating.
To say I will build my roll from $$ to $$$$ in 1 month is not realistic since we have no control over variance. We could play flawless poker (not likely) for the entire month but go through a huge down swing and end up down $. In this scenario we missed achieving our goal, did we fail even though we played great?
My point is in poker, or any activity where you can't control results we should make goals using metrics we can control (volume, study time….) to motivate ourselves and grow as players.
Some examples:
* I will do a pre-session hh review for 30 minutes prior to every session (review previous session).
* I will play 50 tournaments this week. 30- 180 man games @ $ buyin and 20 MTT @ $ buyin.
* I will watch 5 TPE videos this week.
* I will follow the bankroll management guidelines I have made for myself.
