So I've finally made the switch to full time live poker pro.

It all started back in November 2012 when I was laid off my job as an accountant at a real estate company(Got let go the day after Thanksgiving). I was very unhappy with my job at the time but I was also dealing with alot of other things in my personal life that made that time especially hard. In early February, I was just getting a handle on my personal life and decided to start playing poker again. I had played in high school and college, although looking back I was pretty terrible. It was around this time that I also decided to join TPE. Right away poker concepts I had never known about began to click and I started shipping tournaments on a regular basis, mostly on bovada but also on Lock.

All the run good came to a point when I binked a WSOP ME seat on Bovada that started with a $15 sng satty. I cannot begin to describe how amazing I felt. It was literally my dream to one day play in a WSOP event. In preperation, I decided to start playing any live tournaments I could find which were mostly Borgata events leading up to the WSOP. I played 1 event each weekend leading up to my trip to Vegas. I finished 11-13 in all 3 events. All had between 50-90k up top. I was so frustrated but at the same time hooked. I could not wait to get to Vegas.

Unfortunately, poker wise, Vegas did not go too well. I got knocked out on Day 2 of the ME and lost about 1k in cash while there. Nonetheless, the experience was absolutely incredible. I could not stop thinking about poker. Playing wasnt even the most fun thing for me. It was learning. Discussing theory with friends and learning new concepts by watching vids. Andrews videos were absolutely awesome for me. They opened my eyes to so many new concepts I could not wait to try.

Flash forward 1 month. I am still unemployed but not exactly breaking down doors looking when my friend, who is a cash game pro in AC tells me he is buying a house just outside AC. He asks if I would be interested in renting a room. Its at this point that my world completely changes. He offers to stake me at $2/5 if im interested in living with him and some of his poker friends. I immediately accept his offer and prepare to move at the end of August.

So I just moved into this house approx. 15 min away from Borgata and the other AC casinos. Its an absolute bachelor pad with an awesome finished basement and pool in the back. Living in the house is my friend who up until purchasing the house was playing $10/25 holdem and plo, his buddy who is also a $10/25 reg, and my buddy's old roomate who currently plays $5/10. So needless to say, I have a bunch of solid resources just a hallway away.

So to bring this first and probably excuciatingly long post to a close. I recently completed my first month playing professionally. I logged 200 hours at $2/5 with $10,890 in profit. On my first day of play for the month of October, I hit the bad beat jackpot at borgata for a table share of $41k. Yea pretty sick start. So now Im officially off the stake and playing on my own. My goal is to crush $2/5 until probably next spring when hopefully I will have the experience and BR to move up to $5/10. Until then I want to try to update this once a week or so. My next update will probably include some results from the Parx Big stax which started today. Im playing tomorrow in the $300 and then next week I will be playing in the main $1k as long as I sell some of the action. Thanks for reading and wish me luck. Weeeeeeeee!

good luck man. I am going in the same fashion as you but not have the luxury of living so close to a casino to play so I have to play online. I prefer live games over online games and have always liked it. The stability of a j o b is nice but has it's drawbacks. The in stability of poker is nice but has it's drawbacks too. For me…. I love the instability of it. It makes me alive and kicking. it is a drawback that you can play all day and get up to a good amount and it sucks when you play your last thirty minutes at a table and lose it all on a cooler of some sort and go home with either nothing or a loss or worse right where you started walking in.

Good luck. update us please.

So first update since the jackpot hit. Didnt play a ton as I took some time to visit with friends but did put in two solid cash sessions. The first was on Thursday for about 6 hours. It was fairly uneventful except for a hand where I 5 bet shoved AA from the sb against the button who snapped with AKdd and we hold. I then played in day 1b of the parx big stax which was one of the most frustrating tourneys i have played in. 30k starting stacks and my stack never fluctuated oustside of 25k-75k. I bagged 38k with blinds starting at 5k/500 on day 2 lol. Drove an hour and a half sunday to get there for day 2 only to bust in about 15 min. Decided to make the most of the trip and played some cash. It was quite possibly the best session of cash ive ever played. Pretty sure it was the only session where I can honestly say i played mistake free. Made some really good laydowns including one interesting hand with KK.

So middle position opens to 20, cutoff flats and I make it $75 with KK and they both call. Flop is 1053cc and i have the Kc. Checks to me and I bet $115. Folds to cutoff who shoves for $430 total. Cutoff is a mid 30s woman who Ive seen both here and in AC. I think her range here is basically sets and combo draws that mostly involve the nut flush draw. Im not even positive she makes this play with draws like that but I know she doesnt do this with the naked flush draw. I throw my KK in the muck face up and she looks at me with disgust and flips over 1010.

I played another interesting hand where I open to 20 from the cutoff with KQ and the sb flats. Flop is J32 and I cbet 35. Sb calls. Turn is a 10 and he checks to me again. I elect to check behind because I dont think he is ever gonna fold too many pairs here and I would rather see my equity in the form of a river. The river is an A and he checks to me again. I bet 75 and he check raises to 225. The only hand that I think he does this for value that makes sense is probably 45 so I decided to jam. He quickly mucks 68 face up. Its an interesting spot though because I probably take a similar line with something like AQ and I wondered what I would do in that same situation. He really doesnt rep a lot there especially when I check back the turn. I think he has to lead the river with all aces up and i dont really see him floating the flop with any straight draw other than 45.

Anyway, I ended up putting in about 13 hours of tournament play for a net loss of $330 and 13 hours of cash play for a net gain of $3283. Pretty solid week but I need to make sure I put in more hours. Its not always gonna be as easy as making $250 an hour even in the softest 2/5 games.

Next week should be exciting as I will be playing in the Parx Big Stax 1k. Looks like all the roomates will be driving up together on thursday. Still trying to decide if I should sell some of my action or just take a shot. After this week, I feel really good about my game and think I may take the shot. I'll try to update again next sunday or hopefully monday after day 3 of the 1k.

Havent updated in a while and just got back from a weekend trip to Foxwoods with two of my roommates. They were going there for the $1650 150k gtd. On friday they asked me to go and I said if they bought half my action I would go with them. So we got there Friday night at about 8 after a horrible 7 hour drive in an unreal amount of traffic. Played cash the first night for about 4.5 hours and had a really solid session making about $780.

Woke up the next day for the tourney and had myself quite a grind. 50 min levels and 25k starting stacks made for a really nice structure. I would take advantage of that by playing a 20bb stack for the majority of the day up until the final level where i would get 88 in against 33 for 30bb and then 4 bet jam AK and get a fold for another 15bb. Bagged 80k with blinds starting at 1.2k/2.4k 300. 37 players remaining with 21 cashing.

Day2 started off pretty bad when I ran Aces up into a rivered straight for a little more than half my stack. I would then be back to grinding the short stack for the next couple levels. Eventually I worked my way up to 140k when I won a few flips and had about 300k with 11 players left. This is where things got interesting. Unfortunately for me, I had Jonathan Jaffe two seats to me left and he was the CL. He 3 bet me a few times before this hand came up and it would be a big one. I open AdQc from the cutoff to 13k at 3k/6k 500 with 310k to start the hand and the button would flat. Jaffe would 3 bet to 45k. Both players have me covered. I know he is going to be light here all the time but instead of jamming i decide to make a small 4 bet thinking he will 5 bet light alot. So I 4 bet to 115k and the button tank folds. Jaffe says, “I believe you but i dont fold” as he shoves a big stack of 25k chips in. I call and he has Kc10d. Flop runs out J35cc. Turn is the Ac and river is the heartbreaking 2c. Pretty sick way to bust but I was really happy with my play. 11th came with a payday of $4580 and after paying my roomates for the expenses and their portion of my winnings, I made about $1800 on the trip.

So going into the final week of the month I am up about $5300 in cash and $350 in tournies. Im bummed I came up just a bit short of my first big cash but really happy with my play throughout the tourney especially considering the tough field. Really looking forward to some nice tournies coming up in November and looking forward to seeing some TPE faces!
