Hi guys,
Ive been a TPE member/forum lurker for the good part of a year now yet never really introduced myself in the Introductions section.
My names Alex and I am a 24 year-old undergrad accounting + economics student from Queensland, Australia. Since February, 2014 I have worked 4days a week in a small accounting firm. I have started off this topic to keep track of goals, weekly BR and other nonsense i feel necessary.
Poker Background
– Played poker off and on for many years. I currently am backed for all stars action where I can play up to $15 180 and 45 turbos off-peak, $8s on peak as well as up to $20 mtts off-peak. I mainly play off-peak times as I am from Australia. I think being backed is fine for me at the moment as I am able to play what I would if I had my own roll on pokerstars and I can use my own funding on ftp and 888 to play slightly higher buyins.
I play on:
Pokerstars – TearsAsLube
Fulltilt – Alex4573
888 – Blind.minds
2014 Goals
– Increase ABI comfortably within BRM requirements on 888 and ftp to move up stakes.
– Play at least 250 SNGs a month, 75 mtts a month and 12k hands of rush/snap a month (4tables @ 250h/hr = 12hrs/mth). I play 2-3 sessions per week, sometimes more and this should be a small challenge but accomplishable. I think the 75mtts a month would be the hardest part.
– Review at least 2 HHs a week of my own (1 x turbo HH and 1 x reg speed), posting hands for analysis in forums and skype groups.
– Review 2 HHs a week of anothers play with a skype meeting each week to discuss key hands.
– Incorporate pre-session routine in at least 75% of sessions (5min meditation, stretch, reviewing sheet of leaks I am working on)
– Play majority of TPE home game cycles this year.
Be more involved in the TPE community by:
– Watch at least 3 videos a week actively (taking notes and asking questions).
– Post at least 3-5 hands a week on the forums. Stemming from HH reviews and hands whilst playing.
– Comment on at least 3 hands a week on the forums and be actively involved in those topics.
– Post weekly updates in this thread with games played, profit, biggest learnings from the week and link the hands i posted/have been commenting on.
Til next time, adios.
EDIT: After my Japan trip from Jan til March I lost track of the motivation to update this topic. Culminating with losing my Holdem Manager database I didnt see the need to update this. I am back on track and am gonna hold myself to my goals whilst finishing 2014 with a bang.
October 6, 2010
good goals there, gl mate, ill be keeping track
30/04/2014 – 2014 thus far.
So far this year I have not updated this topic or been accountable to my goals at all. Along with starting a new full time job and doing university I havent been playing a tonne of poker. When I have played I have done quite well, especially on 888. I shipped a $25 on 888 for ~$700 and a 5r for just over 1k in the last few weeks. This has provided me with a comfortable roll to continue playing on 888, whilst also having nearlly a 1k roll on ftp.
I have decided that due to lack of time during the week to put in long mtt sessions I will put some of my roll towards zoom and study cash on my own accord as well. A reasonable BR is about 50 buyins I believe at any current level. I will move up stakes when I have reached 50 buyins at that next level and may mix in 1 higher buyin when around 75 buyins at current level. During cash sessions I will generally play 4 tables of Rush or Snap on 888/FTP. I will start off at NL10 with 50buyins devoted towards cash with rest of the roll devoted towards tournaments.
My personal bankroll currently stands at a combined $2117 excluding backers funds on PS, of which $500 is devoted towards NL10 and $1617 towards my tournament bankroll.
I have updated my goals in original topic accordingly and am going to be accountable from here on out. I have the resources to become much more knowledgeable in both tournaments and cash, i just need the motivation and determination to carry out training sessions and hand reviews.
I will update this topic next Monday from the sessions this week.
Til then, adios.

Nice post bud… Will certainly keep, track.
With moving up in ABI, are you looking to have 100 to 250 buy ins at current ABI to maintain your roll??? Are you looking to maintain any specific ratios?
You could also throw in there taking down 1k Home Game ticket and working towards WSOP APAC… Will you be playing any live events in the lead up?
Nice man.
Playing a mixture will be good for +Ev fun but becareful your not having your tournament hat on when playing cash and calling off in spots which isnt really good in cash. Squeeze shoving 99 for 25BB probably isnt good in cash 😉
I'l be kicking your ass in skype anyway so good luck sir.
Btw, im sure i get some commission for getting you on 888? WHERES MY MONEY!!

Currently I am looking at having about 125-150 buyins at current ABI with tourneys and i will have to amend what stakes I play at. Never really took BRM into consideration as I was backed and played the games that i was allowed. Now that I have my own roll on other sites I have to be much more weary and keep a closer eye on my roll.
I should be playing some live events to the lead up of WSOP however there isnt much here in Brisbane. The casino has some tournaments every few weeks including a $230 deepstack and a $90 turbo which I may play one or two depending on how online goes.

Yeah adapting to cash will be difficult to begin with but I think it should help my overall MTT game also. I mailed your commission to you except they must have lost it with your archaic NZ postal system.
No worries, ill send you a smiley here instead
Update: 30/04/2014 to 09/05/2014
MTTS
Fulltilt: Played – 6, ABI: $6.97, Buyins: $46.80, Winnings: $0, Net Winnings: -$46.80, ITM: 14%, ROI -15%
888: Played – 21, ABI: $4.77, Buyins: $100.19, Winnings: $77.75, Net Winnings: -$22.44
Total Mtts played: 27
ABI: $5.44
Had a pretty shocking week both in SNGs on pokerstars and MTTs. I final tabled the Frenzy on 888 which is one crazy-ass 99cent rebuy tournament. It had 444 runners and i ended up finishing in 7th for $66.55. Quite a dismal effort considering I had a good edge over the field and turbo being my strongest game.

The villain above was a mega whale playing a tonne of hands and 3betting about 23% (cant get exact stats right now as HM2 hates me). In hindsight only having 12-13bb and being in early position with bad players that are gonna flat I should be shoving. Especially with a hand like this I dont want any of the blinds flatting me with hands that can realise equity postflop which they would rather fold to a shove- stuff like J9, QT etc
Had i have won that flipament I think I go on to ship that tourney about 80% of the time.
CASH
I played a mixture of NL5 and NL10, which will be changing as of today when I work out current BR and MTT ABI stakes I want to play, corresponding parts of BR to each.
NL10: 487 hands, $-19.83 winnings, -40.72bb/100
NL5: 911 hands, $19.11 winnings, 41.95bb/100
Total hands: 1398
Total cash winnings: -$0.72
Total cash and MTT winnings: -$69.96
Current BR
$1945.02
I want to have 130 buyins at 12ABI mtt level and rest devoted towards cash, moving up or down as i increase or decrease from 50 buyins. This means my roll consists of:
Mtts – $1560, 12ABI
Cash – $385.02, 77 buyins at NL5. As I have 75+ buyin I will mix 1 NL10 table per 3 NL5 tables for the time being.
Poker Study
I had a MTT hand history reviewed from a friend on skype and he provided some good commentary. Spent about an hr and a half going through it this week with Liverpool015.
I watched Part 1 of Daryl Jace's new vid and really took onboard about the progression of how to advance. I have replicated this here:
1 – Put villain on a range
2 – How to play with our current hand against villains range
3 – Think about future streets and how that affects us
4 – Compare the future streets of two decisions at once (i think he meant future cards affects villains range and how we play our hand) – have asked him to clarify in comments on his vid.
5 – Compare different lines, getting a feel for what is better
6 – How we are to play our entire range
Other than this I didnt watch many videos this week and didnt put in much study myself. Mainly due to the amount of assignments I have had due at uni this week I havent particularly had the time. I endeavour to set some allotted time each week where I actively study the game. For the following few weeks I want to go back to level 1 and use Andrew's series on hand reading. Incorporating this into my weekly reviews of own and others play it will be my main focus.
I also did not comment on any hands this week or post any. This will change this week.
Goals for this week
– Comment on 3 hands in forums
– Post 3 hands of my own
– Watch 3 x videos of Andrew Brokos hand reading series
– Review 1 x mtt HH of my own using hand reading specifics
– Review 1 x mtt of friends
– Review 1 x turbo HH
– Maintain 12ABI or less
– Play 2k hands of cash, 30 mtts.
– Setup a new format of how to post updates in future.
Til next time, play well and run better.

You didn't list your Stars MTT's results. Is this because you are backed?
Great Goals, well thought out. Cash is focused on zoom yes? Have you given SNAP a crack on 888? reckon it would be pretty soft.
Have you ever recorded one of your poker sessions? Thinking that might be a good way to reinforce those aspects of your game you are trying to work on, i.e. steps yu have identified from Jace, hand reading techniques from Broko's… I have been thinking of giving it a go – just to try and step through my thought process whilst playing and reviewing post session.
BUSTO Hand: Clearly you are not rasie folding… so agree I think I would have shoved in that spot, hoping to be called by at worst 2 overs and fliping or ideally having a villian call with smaller pockets. standard stuff, u gotta win the flips.

Mainly for cash I play rush on FTP. I haven't played much on 888 but I definitely can. The fields in mtts there are quite horrendous at times and think this will translate to cash too. I have an excel sheet of my running cash br total so it should be easy to track.
I like your idea of videoing sessions. It's something I had thought about previously. In relation to my play, I really have noticed the gap between what I think is the best move in post-game analysis and what is actually done in game. Videoing and reviewing the live game play will probably give me greater insights. During session tomorrow night I will video and review it throughout the week instead of doing a HH. If you wanted to check it out too let me know and I'll make it available on Dropbox. Who knows, It might even give me a home game edge 😉
BUSTO HAND: clear shove the more I think about it, it would have had the same outcome with that villain but for future I think it's the much much more EV play.
