So I havent been playing alot of poker lately, but just put 500$ on bovada to grind out a welcome bonus and just play around becuase I heard the cash games here are really soft, and they are.

For the unaware, the main difference between bovada and othe sites is that there are no usernames, you are just assigned a number when you sit at a cash game table(effectively a seat number) and given a random player001 in tournaments, or whatever.

This also means HUD is not a thing(and they dont let you access your HHs until 1 day after you played them).  I will chronical my progress through the abyss known as bovada cash games(and randomly sit n gos), since I do not have time to play tourneys with my grad school schedule(although we get a month off during the winter so will def try to do some tourney crushing on US sites then), and may play some random sundays or thursdays(I dont have class on fridays).

Right now, although not something I would advocate with only a 500$ roll, I am playing 50nl 6m/9m and 25nl HU, I am going to be fairly ambitious with my BRM due to how soft these games actually are, and becuae once I get to 200nl+ I expect a decent hourly 3-4 tabling, and can stay at those stakes a little longer.

My game selection strategy right now is just sitting whatever table has the highest avg pot and highest % plyrs to flop, I then give the table a 20 minute trial period to see if there are some targets that are worth it, and will get up if I dont see any glaring fish.  so far I have had decent sucess, here are my stats for the first 4 ish sessions or so(liek 9 hours, have played one more sessions today of like 2-2.5 hours but cant get those hands until tomorrow).  The 25nl non zoom hands are all at HU, all the 50nl is non HU(6/9 max):

Gonna try to paly at least 10 hours a week or so, hopefully average 15 hours a week, will update here.  My goal would be to profit at least 7k prior to the end of the year, we shall see though.

Will def posts some hands with thought processes as I think playing readless and HUDless could be interesting though experiments for not only me but people who choose to read it.

One thing worth mentioning about bovada is that they give EVERYONEs hole cards after 24 hours, so even if it doesnt go to showdown I will see everyones hands.  Now this isnt useful in the sense you can improve against certain people since you have no clue who they are later on, but its great in getting inside the mind of people and improving your ability to think about hands/ranges.

With that said here are some fun hands(sorry they cant be convereted since I have to use a bovada->stars converter and the raw text doesnt work with TPE converter):

Been a while since my last update.  I ended up playing some Hu, doing decent at 25nl HU, but wran bad at 50nl and one shot at 100nl (convinced a drooler at 25nl to play me).  My deposit bonus ended up coming to an end and I only really cleared like 200 of it.  They randomly gave me another good bonus for 500, and cleared like 400 of that too.  Overall I was up marginally but nothing amazing(would have been up a decent amount if I never played 100nl, lost liek 220 there).  Unforuntately that laptop I was playing on is currently in laptop heaven, meaning I had to get another.

The plan was to cashout.  No more bonuses, an almost no existent rakeback.  So didnt really see the point in grinding trying to run it up.  But I was also planning on doing a TPE video, so decided to cash out all of my money except 160$, and leave it in bovada to play some mid stakes tourneys and record a live sweat.  And thats what I did.  Except….

I got second in a random tourney(35 after- the 35+3.5 6 max or whatever).  Which should make the video nice, was worth like 680 or something(plus cashed another), and now had 725$ or something.  I literally would have had 1$ left in my account if I bricked everything.  LOL.  Should haev cashed down to 159, I calcualted it out too, just felt liek only cashing to 160.  Cool beans, still dont see a point in grinding Bovada micros though so was semi planning on cashing this out too.  Depositing on a difffernt site and chasing a bonus there.

But before I did that I decided to play a decent schedule the next day.  This consisted of playing about 420 in buy ins.  I figured why not, wasnt in need of the moeny offline, would cash out the 300 or whatever if I busted, and call it a day.  The 420 consisted of 9 buy ins, which looked something like 44,33,20,25,30,35,55,55,109 (off the top of my head).  Decent tourneys, a few decent guarantees.  A final table would likely put me BE on the day (unless I got 7/8/9).

So now I had a new plan!  Except that went a little better than expected too.  Well a little is an understatemeent, it went a lot better.  I ended up winning 3 of them and getting second in another.  At one point being CL in all 4:

The total damage on the day was liek 5700 in cashes, or +5300.  The Scores were:

1st in 55$ 10k, for 2.6k

1st in 35$ 6 max for 800

1st in 44$ 7k for 1.6k

2nd in 30$ 5k for 500 + 160ish or so in bounties

Thats cool beans.  I truly realized how soft bovada was (readers note: I obviously ran like god, no denying that, but it was really really soft).  This was late Novmeber and with my winter break coming up, maybe keeping some money on bovada to grind some tourneys during that would be good.  So I cashed out 4500 of my 6k or so and left myself with 1500, which I figured would require me bricking 4 days in a row to bust (at the fastest).

But then I found PLO.

PLO.

My experience with PLO is really weird.  I usually ddont play it.  I have dabbled form time to time, but alwyas in games where the rake would prevail long time(aka micros), and any edge wasnt worth it.  I did play live 5/5 once and got into a 1900$ pot AIPF as a 75% favorite(spoiler alert I lost), but thats a differnt story for a differnt time.

I had played some plo prior to those tourneys binks.  I was told by a friend plo was really soft on bovada, and that Is Should try it.  I knew I was competent at it so i figured I would give it a shot.  I was playing plo 25, 4 tabling(max cash games on bovada), and clearing a bonus that was effectively like 50-60% rakeback or something high.  It was fine.  Here were my plo stats during that time period:

Image Enlarger

Cool beans, wasnt crushing, but rake was a little high here and even that win rate is like 7 bb/100, which isnt the worst.  Ideally I would be winning at 10bb/100 EV.  But I also wasnt playing all that great.  i wasnt focusing as much as I could and taking a lot of “meh **** it” lines, becuase its PLO!  And worst case scenario im 49% right?!?!?

That was, again, prior to me binking the tourneys.

So fast forward, I have 1500, which is plenty overrolled for plo25, so plo 50 it is!.  Meh maybe not.  Why not just go striaght to plo100.  I was looking at the lobby and the plo 100 gmaes on average had an average pot that was both greater than 2x plo 50 and 4x plo 25.  This ahs to be a good sign.  I assume it played a little looser and would be a great spot to start, becuase theres one thing worse than tight plo, and thats limit poker, and barely.

So Thats what I did, I start 2-3 tabling plo 100.  And again I kept up the run good and found some moeny coming my way.  Well a lot of run good, and a decent amount of money.  in fact this s my plo 100 graph so far(small sample obviously):

Image Enlarger

Again I found the run good, but again I was overwhelmed with how bad the play is.  One thing youll notice about this graph is I included showdown winnings.  This is becuase I am winning at non showdown. This wasnt the case at plo25.  That graph looked the opposite of this graph.

Winning at non showdown, was a surpise to me while playing(although I could tell I was when playing), and also a good sign for the future(imo), as it should have a decent effecting on minimizing my losses, since my line is less fluctuated by all in pots, which is the driver of a vast majority of the variance in PLO.

Peolpe just were not playing aggro pre flop, and when they wre, with bad hands.

Edit: just noticed plo100 grpah is in big blinds not moeny, o well.  Its an easy conversion since its 1:1!

Some interesting hands from my plo100(since they are more fresh):

Biggest Win:

Poker Stars $100.00 Pot Limit Omaha Hi – 6 players – View hand 2377473

MP: $29.00
CO: $59.70

Pre Flop: ($1.50) Hero is BTN with 7 of clubs 3 of diamonds J of spades J of diamonds

MP mucks 5 of diamonds 2 of clubs 5 of clubs K of hearts
CO mucks A of diamonds T of clubs K of spades 4 of clubs
Hero wins $273.10
(Rake: $3.00)

Notes:  Even from the BTn, I think this is a fairly loose open.  I usualyl dont open JJ unconnected, but sort of just autopiloted it here(probably my least favoirte habit).  Villain was spewy, I have another hand of hsi I could psot but it sort of obsolete, I had KK98ds open over a limp, he 3 bets, I flat flop KQ99, he pots, I just jam he had jt79r and held.  Here on flop, I obv had nuts and FD.  I didnt think FD was good I put hi on something like KQxxdd, I thought there was a decent chacne he flats turn if I flat IP here.  SO I go 3 bet on flop to set up a good turn shove.  He flats, and then donks the turn which is a snap. LOL at his hand.

Biggest Loss:

(Rake: $0.60)

Notes:  Villain was pretty spewy pre.  I usually fold this pre but knew I could outplay him post.  Looking bad Im still meh over my pre flop flat though.  Once he checks back flop, I know hes fairly weak.  The turn is better for my range then his check back range so I lead out.  I have 3 outs to the nuts, and a few more to more than likely winning hands(9s/8s).  I also have a great chance imo to tkae this down here.  He calls, which I am not to scared of, there ar ea lot of draws that came in on turn, so i figured that hi calling was a good possiblity.  The river is a wierd card, i dont expect him to have a boat at al lhere unless its a random one liek AAT5 or something.  I expect he bets most 2pr+ on flop.  He could have a flush.  I check, mainly expecting him to check back becuase I didnt thnk he would be his flush for value all that often.  he does bet, and then I get the idea to c/r.  it looks super strong given his stack behind, and his range is much wearker than my c/r range.  Plus I had a great image for it.  I was fairly tight and striaght forward, got my 60$ profit or whatever off showing down good hands and non showdown.

He tanks, and ends up calling, which is horrible.  If h esnap called I would be less mad because that means he would have just been bad, but this meant he thought it out and still decided to call, beating nothing.  His turn call is also atrocious chasing a non nut flush with no redraw.

not mad about my c/r on river I liked it.

Update:

Things Have been going fairly well.  Didnt play nearly as much as I would have liked over my break but did get some hands in, and have been playing with a decent rate since being back in school(my time is more budgeted making it easier to convince myself to play).  Here is my overall graph  in both $$$ and BBs since Dec10th(my last update):

BBS:

http://i.imgur.com/vk5TQTr.pngImage Enlarger

One of the big changes si I am playing mainly HU right now.  I find it might be slightly more profitable for me, easier to find games, and get a decent hands/hour.  I also found people on bovada tilt pretty easily.  I still aply good 6 max  and FR games if I find them but its becoming more rare.

The huge upswong in terms of dollars was playing this emga fish HU at 400 and taking 2.6k off him.  Was pretty nice.  Here is the breakdown overall by stake:

http://i.imgur.com/PnSHMmH.png

My expected hourly so far with all of this is 57.4$/hr, which is great for the stakes.  Keeping it over 50$ is my goal:

http://i.imgur.com/xD9VWSi.pngImage Enlarger

My current outlook is to aim for 10k hands a month, and stick to <plo400 for now, focusing at plo 100 and plo 200.  If I can sustain a 10BB/1000 overall winrate I will be happy.  This seems easily attainable at HU, and may readjust.

Will post some interesting hands later.

hey i just wanted to step in and say i read this thread and like seeing these long thought out posts. i just noticed it now as i go through older threads, but i hope you continue to update it, even if its sporadically. i love bovada and might start playing cash games there now that you've shown me how soft they are. i have a cash games roll on intertops that i'm thinking of moving.
