Anyone here who is computer savey?  Is it possible to use a laptop an extra monitor attached to my pc?  I usually play on my pc wondered if I could use my wife's laptop as an extra monitor…….when she is not home 🙂

If its complicated then forget it, but I would be curious if it is relatively easy.

You can…and it's easy.  Just hook the monitor up and it should be able to automatically detect it.  Then you need to go into display options and select “extend desktop this monitor”.  The specifics are dependent on which version of windows  you are using but a simple google search will give you the exact steps.

hey,

i dont think you understood his question Ron 🙂

he dont want to attach a monitor to his laptop,

he want to attach his laptop as a scont monitor to his normal pc which is not possible!

the VGA port on your laptop is a output and dont like to recieve signals

so please dont try it.

the only thing you can do is to attach your normal monitor to

your laptop just like Ron explained above.

If your looking for a bigger monitor setup try a TV, I picked up a Samsung HDTV 40″ from Amazon for $700 and have my computers hooked up to it. It is great for Poker and for the videos here as well.  It should give you plenty of room. If you already have a TV most newer laptops have HDMI output or VGA out, which the TV's have. You could hook your laptop to the TV and bypass using the PC. The cables you need are fairly cheap.

I tried hooking the laptop up to my TV, unfortunatly my HDMI cable that I have is like 2 feet long.  I would probably need a length of about 5 feet maybe from where I sit to the TV.  By the way 700 bucks for a 40″ LCD is pretty decent, I shudder at the thought of what I paid for my dinky 37″ LG four years ago.

They have HDMI cheap at Amazon as well. Here is a link to the HDMI I use they are around $8.00 and are plenty long. I have one for each of my computers. click here  The TV was a great deal and had 4 HDMI ports, it makes it easier to multitable or play and watch TPE videos at the same time.

Went and purchased a second monitor but am having trouble hooking it up.  The graphics card that i have is an ATI Radeon HD 3650, (not sure if that is a decent one or not) it has both a VGA port (blue) and a DVI port (white).  When I have both monitors hooked up, the original is fine but the new one with the DVI cable (white), the screen is blank.  If I unplug the original monitor (blue cord) then my new monitor will work, once I have rebooted the computer.   I went to display options and added an additional monitor.  Not sure if I overlooked something or if I need a new graphicls card?

Anyone with any ideas?   Am also using Windows Vista.

hey,

your graphic card is fine 🙂

are both of your displays flatscreens?

if u are using a CRT and a TFT you should set your HZ to 75,

just post a couple of screenshot from your ATI-driver settings here,

there are just so many diffrent drivers with diffrent options…

will be able to help you easyer if i know which driver you use.

I tried it again this morning and I got it to work for me….dumb luck i guess.  As for having two monitors, its pretty sweet.  No more minimizing and closing tabs….weeeeeeeeeeee 🙂  Now I have wannabe baller status.

Thanks DG for your assistance.
