I'll start this thread off with recommending that if anyone hasn't watched “Six Feet Under”, which ran on HBO from 2001 – 2005 you should. The show was oftentimes great, sometimes a little bit plodding, but on the whole very strong. The acting was tremendous as was the writing. There was quite a bit of black humor at times but what really stood out to me was just how much it made me realize o how fleeting life is and how important our relationships with the people we love are.
To me, the entire 63 episode run is worth it just for the finale which many believe is the best finale of all time. If you haven't seen the show I wouldn't watch the below. It's a major spoiler. It's a clip of the final scene. But if you were a fan and saw this, here it is again to appreciate for it's excellence.

The League, (season 1 episode 1 , The birthday song, must hear, would love to get it as a ring tone). Its always sunny in Philadelphia (best comedy out there, period). Sons of Anarchy (Soprano's gone redneck). Breaking Bad (best storyline, miffed they delayed the start of season 4 till July can't wait). Dexter (most either love it or hate it, a serial killer who picks people that enjoy laying bad beats, can't understand whats not to love). Entourage (the HBO broadcasts not the crappy sensored spike). Weeds (getting a little weak but still decent). Californication (seX-files). Funny not one of these is on the big three. I've heard good things about The Wire haven't watched any, opinions on it?

It's probably far from cool to say, but I also really like Parenthood. I'm assuming it would not be AS GOOD for people who dont have a wife and kids, but I find it really funny and occasionally touching.
+1 was definitely surprised by the quality of this show.
How could I forget the best show to come out of Canada, “The Trailer Park Boys”. If you haven't watched this low budget, low class, big laughs Canadian classic then your missing what most Canadians are (at heart at least). “I am the Liquor”
