Mrs. Killingbird and I watch a ton of movies. Or at least we used to when we could find some to watch. Been having a hard time finding anything we want to see lately (in the threatres or on demand, Redbox, etc). Soooo….I'm starting this thread. Suggest movies that are either (a) out but people may not have seen or (b) movies that are coming out soon.

We have pretty broad tastes. About the only thing we don't really enjoy are like big blockbuster/action type films ala Batman or Transformers. But we dig off the wall indie kind of stuff, comedies, horror films and love to find interesting documentaries.  That being said, freel free to suggest anything here as other members might be in to it even if we are not.

At the moment I'm awaiting Draft Day to come out. Might be terrible, but I'm a big football fan so I'll give it a shot.

Also stoked for these…

I’m looking forward to Gone Girl, a new David Fincher movie. The book was a fun read.

If you want recs for older movies, I’m a huge fan of movies from the 30’s – 70’s

the U.S. remake of the korean film Oldboy (both have same name), was super wierd. Directed by Spike Lee, its one of the creepy, craziest  movies ive ever seen. it starts slow but if you can make it through the whole movie it will screw with your mind. NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART!!! Its seriously effed up, but a great well acted thriller that will make your brain spin.

First of all, thanks to your post I learned a new expression: “off the wall” smile.

I do enjoy as well indie stuff and good thinking movies, not fond of blockbusters either, so I think we can have a taste in common and you might enjoy some of these movies:

The Fall

High Fidelity

Festen (5* euro piece!)

El Secreto de sus ojos (5* latin american beauty)

9 Queens

Dirty Pretty Things

The Squid and the Whale

Paris, Texas

if you want something that is a little different that you might not have seen, i highly recommend the intouchables. basically a buddy comedy / fish out of water type movie, but i cant remember a better feelgood movie than this.

Love High Fidelity!

I watched Snowpiercer last night and thought it was awesome.

Got a free screening of Draft Day.  Was decent.  If you are die hard football fan like me, it may seem a little far fetched.  However my wife who likes football, really enjoyed it so theres that.

was wondering if it would be good. I'm a big football fan, and was not sure if that would make me like it more or less. I'll be watching it regardless.

Watched a pretty cool flick this weekend called Coherence. Mind bender. and pretty much completely dialogue driven which I always dig.

For twisted, watch “The Skin I Live In.”  I recommend knowing very little about this movie before watching it .. All you need to know is that it's twisted, it's subtitled (so if you hate reading subtitles it won't work for you) and it's about a plastic surgeon played by Antonio Banderas.

Or for twisted you can always watch “Happiness” with Philip Seymour Hoffman.

I really suck at liking movies.  One of my favorite movies ever is Law Abiding Citizen (even though I typically can't stand Jamie Fox).  It got 25/100 on Rotten Tomatoes.  Seroiusly, how does any give that movie a 25?!?!?

With that in mind take my recommendation with a grain of salt.  I just watched Ender's Game, and it's probably the best movie I've seen in the last year or so.  It's kind of like Starship Troopers with kids, combined with Starcraft 2 (the computer game), and has Harrison Ford acting like a grumpy old man though the whole thing.  It's a big budget film (that bombed in the box office), but it's based on a novel that's on the U.S. Marine Corps Professional Reading List and various other best modern novel lists.  In other words, it's no Transformers.

BTW I've seen the title of this thread for a while but yesterday was the first time I actually clicked on it.  I had always assumed the discusion direction was along the lines of “who would we cast as Big Dog?”.
