Wasn’t exactly sure where to post this so…

im primarily a live mtt player. I’ve been playing smaller, daily local casino tourneys for a few years with some success. I only recently (6momths ago) started keeping win/loss records for my sessions. I have several apps for taking notes and recording hands but so far I’ve been terrible at that – something I plan on doing more religiously this year.  My question is: aside from improving my hand recording and discussing them here and watching videos on tpe what else should I be doing to improve my live game? I’m very committed to this for 2016. I just feel like Im not sure exactly how to “study” if that makes sense so I guess I’m lookin for some guidelines or a plan. Any suggestions?

watch as many YT videos of past live tournaments  WPT  WSOP . If you can get poker central channel 24hrs of great live poker from past and present. Very motivating and better than watching  Rounders  hundreds of times which did nothing for me watching it just once

I would watch a lot of live or recorded current poker tourneys being broadcast today. Watching today’s game does help a lot to keep you in the loop with modern poker and seeing what others are doing today that you can ‘steal’ and/or modify to add to your game.

My opinion on this topic is don’t just watch the shows you see on TV.  All are edited and Most except the WSOP Main are all FT’s and things are vastly different at a final table because of pay jumps and other things.

I would suggest watching ANY of the training vids.  The only way you are going to improve your game is to study & watch from the early stages of a tounrye.  You can’t get to the FT unless you get through those stages.  It takes a lot of discipline and patience to go deep in tourney and make the money.

If you watch the WSOP Main coverage you would think Joe McKeehan played EVERY hand winning them all  (Which he basically did) But getting there was a task for him.

See and understanding what GOOD players are folding in various spots is very important as well.  Watch some of the live sweats.  I know BigDog normally plays very tight in the beginning of tourneys and after antes and later likes to ramp up his aggression.  You can’t get that from watching TV poker.  Sure, you can get a few minor things, but that’s why there are TRAINING SITES.

Talk to friends about hands and read the forums and get various opinions.  There’s NO ONE right/wrong opinion at times.  You just steal/take from everyone and make it into “Your game”.
