Going to take a road trip with the family this summer.  Starting from east coast and heading west.  Grand cannon, Hoover dam, Disneyland, Yellowstone, Mt. Rushmore and of course, Vegas.   Looks like the plan is heading out using  Route 40 and Route 90 on the way back.  We would also like to stop for some really cool and different attractions.  Any suggestions from the TPE nation on some stops to add to our trip?

road trips rule!

Joshua Tree is pretty cool just from a scenic standpoint, although the kids might find it a bit boring.

Grand Canyon is a must IMO.

I've done Yellowstone as well and it was awesome. We stayed at a cool lodge that if I can find it I will link it here. As long as you don't mind sharing a bathroom with a few other folks. 🙂

Maybe head up through SanFran and check out Alcatraz.

If you have tons of time take the coast highway up through Cali. Great views.

Here is the lodge we stayed at:

There is also a great book. Although a bit morbid. About all the people who have died in the hot springs at Yellowstone.

This this was it:

I suggest adding Bryce Canyon to your schedule. Obviously not the same schale as Grand Canyon, but at least as beautiful in my opinion. Plus, the hikes are a bit easier, especially with kids.

KB…. Joshua Tree looks great.  Great stop on our way to Disney.

I am an earth/space teacher so Yellowstone and Grand Canyon are a must.

Thanks for the lodging info but we will be RVing it.

Wife and I did San Fran and Alcatraz for our honeymoon, great time.

NLGizzi… Have had a number of people recommend Bryce.  Adding it to the list.  It is between vegas and Yellowstone. Works out great

Keep them coming guys.

Thanks

I have 3 recommendations; Zion Zion & Zion. The problem might be the RV through the tunnel.

But Amazing place!!

You cant go wrong with southern Utah Zion, Bryce, Arches and Canyonlands Moab is a fun little town. Been to all of them for extended periods of time. If you have the time Alaska is epic.
