Reviewing your own play

Hi guys

What's the best way to review your own play? I've never really done much apart from noting down hands where I struggled to know the best line and then posting them for others to review. I'm thinking about putting all of my tournaments from a session into Universal Replayer and looking at spots where I lose a lot and try to fix any leaks. Any other thoughts? What do you guys do? Many thanks. Loving the site! 🙂

First, what Jdog says.

Second, what you are thinking of doing.  Reviewing sessions in a HH replayer is great and you'll find spots you forgot you even messed up!

i think you have a good plan.

watching HHs is a great way to make sure you're not missing spots and to catch mistakes. copying/pasting trouble spots while you play is also good. i also spends hours everyday reading forums/watching videos.

also even if you don't use a HUD, to have HEM/PT3 in order to keep a database of hands is pretty key in terms of doing work away from the table. these programs allow you to use filters to dissect your play so that you can see what hands you're losing money with, in what situations, etc.

Plugging tournament histories in the replayer is a must! Watching videos and taking notes while doing so I think makes the training vids doubly valuable, and thirdly having HEM is a solid thing to filter through specific spots in hands where you frequently leak chips is moderately helpful if you can identify ways to plug the leaks.

THese are just IMHO tho.

Hagbard – can you give me a few examples of filters you might run in PokerTracker to dissect your play?

Yeah, away from the stress of the actual tournament your thought process is not squewed by the money bubble or ICM or anything.  you would be shocked at how many hands that you folded than later you think “why didnt I raise that?”

Check the Study Group forum for all the details.

Also, hit up the chat room when you are grinding…lots of good analysis (and some fun) happening in there!

HEM is invaluable for reviewing HH's with it's built in replayer ( I wish the pros would use this method in their videos…hint hint!).

One of the great features of the replayer is the HUD, which shows the stats of all players while reviewing so you can use that info to see if you made good/bad decisions based on their stats. poopoopopup replayer doesn't do this.

You can also make notes within the HEM platform by clicking on the asterisk beside a player's HUD. I make notes in HEM exclusively during play as well so they are available when reviewing my hh's as opposed to saving it in the poker site platform. I will “tag” a player with a color rating in the poker site platform but all notes go into HEM for review.

The filters are too numerous to list but to name a few, filter action by effective stack sizes, filter hands by most chips lost or won, review allin hands to see if you got it in +/- EV based on your opponents RANGE…..

Dig into the HEM forum for more details and ideas, PT must have similar features.
