Hey everyone,
I’m starting my career in poker here in France. I’m from Colombia but work with wine here. The purpose of this post is to commit myself to do a daily hand range reading exercise to create the habit and get better on this leak I found about my game.
Any comments or suggestions are more than welcome.
Cheers.

Interesting idea. The main problem I see here is that your ranges aren’t consistent from street to street. In other words, on the turn you include A9 and AT for Villain, but you don’t have those in his flop range. You should start with a wide range pre-flop and only eliminate possibilities as the hand progresses.
Thank you very much for your comments. I did included A6s+ on he’s opening but completely forgot to add them on the flop range too. I will take into account this fact.

I think you are too quick to take hands out of your opponent’s range from street to street when there’s been little action. For instance, why do you think that Villain checking the flop in Hand 4 takes all of the Qx and Jx out of his range? I think many players are just checking their entire ranges here, which means his range after the flop action should be the same as his range after the pre-flop action. Also on the turn you seem to assume that V would bet pot with his entire range, which also seems implausible to me.
Thanks once again for the comments Foucault, this is the main purpose of the exercise; get better every day.
Hand #5
Player with a wide range of OR in 60 hands played. OR to fold to 3bet quite often and doesn’t continue on the flop after cbet that much.
Preflop
Villain UTG: 55+, A2s+, K6s+, Q8s+, J8s+, T8s+, 98s, A7o+, K9o+, Q9o+, JTo
Hero CO: KJs
Flop:
Villain: 66+, A7s+, K7s+, Q8s+, J8s+, T9s, ATo+, KTo+, QTo+, JTo
Hero: KJs
Turn – With the information I had and since a brick peel off I didn’t second barrel the turn once he paid the cbet on the flop. I think he was on check calling every street. I could possible be extracting value out of weaker hands or draws but I took a defensive position and pot controlling since the Ace was already there.
Villain: 66+, A7s+, K7s+, Q8s+, J8s+, T9s, ATo+, KTo+, QTo+, JTo
Hero: KJs.
River – He checked again meaning a lot of things. He may had miss the flush draw or he could be calling with any Ace or any weaker jack (good for me this one tho). My reason not to bet? I felt I was beaten.
Villain: 66+, A7s+, K7s+, Q8s+, J8s+, T9s, ATo+, KTo+, QTo+, JTo

I’m back!!
I had to take a break since I was finishing my masters degree but now I am full time on Poker. RANGE READING EXERCISE IS BACK!
Hand #6
Player with a wide RFI from EP of 18% over a sample of 233 hands. So I decided not to 3bet and call from the button given his 0% F3bet stats.
Preflop
Villain UTG: 22+, A5s+, KTs+, QJs, A7o+, KJo+, QJo
Hero BTN: 98s
Flop – Given the range I put him in there are so many 10’s in it, I decided to just call the cbet. Don’t like to 3bet in position since I am not trying to bluff and also I want to keep his bluff in. Also he has a 100% Cbet flop.
Villain: 22+, A5s+, KTs+, QJs, A7o+, KJo+, QJo
Hero: 98s
Turn – With this turn card I was a little bit confused in game whether I should raise or keep calling. Now that he bet again I put the 10 on his range. I would like to now a reason not to/or to shove the turn in this spot knowing this.
Villain: 88+, ATs+, KTs+, QTs+, JTs, ATo+
Hero: 98s
River – When he shoved the river I was complete lost. Most of the time the villain has it but since these player was a bit of a spewer I decided to call.
Villain: JJ+, ATs+, KTs, QTs, JTs, ATo+, QTo, JTo

Preflop: No information on the PFR on UTG at all. Decided just to call. BB player is loose with tendency to bluff to much. Couple of hands played where he/she try to semi-bluff with low pair to a TOP/TOP.
Villain UTG: 22+, A5s+, K8s+, QTs+, JTs, A5o+, K8o+, QJo
Villain BB: Any two

Flop – Since the villain is shoving there could be a lot of K on her/his range but a couple of hands before where he shoves with lowest pair and got called by TOP/TOP. So I put her/him on a draw right away. Flush and OESD and why not Gutshot. No posibility of over pairs since he/she would’ve shove PF.

Hero BTN: K6s
Flop – Although he had a 50% cbet he checked behind so I think he has some showdown value but some weakness in it. Still he’s range is very wide. He could be checking anything here.
Villain UTG+1: 22+, A2s+, K2s+, Q4s+, J7s+, T7s+, 97s+, 87s, A3o+, K7o+, Q8o+, J8o+, T8o+
Hero: K6s
Turn – I pick up a decent amount on equity vs he’s range on the turn so I decided to lead here. I block 66’s, I block AK of diamonds, I block KK’s, AKs, So I reduce his range to the following (Still wide tho).
Villian UTG+1: 33+, A3s+, K3s+, Q4s+, J7s+, T8s+, A6o+, K7o+, Q8o+, J9o+
River – I guess I could’ve bet something in the river and extract value from worst but I wanted her/him to try and bluff it. Didn’t expect a shove. My call was based on his statistics (WSD% after river bet 0%, this range, bet river 75%, R Aggression frequency 100%). He just wanted to push me out of the hand.

Flop – Flop doesn’t really hit his range around 60% of the time and he cbets 53% of the time. I decided to float and since I have the backdoor flush draw I think is the best line to take here. Maybe check-raising too?

Preflop: No history with the villain but according to stats seem to be on the aggressive/loose side. Although a “Decent” 3bet vs OR from the BTN is around 26%-28%.
Hero BTN: Pocket 10’s
Villain SB: 22+, A2s+, K8s+, QTs+, A2o+, K9o+
Flop – Our villains range misses 60% of the time with flop like this, so I decided to do my cbet as usual an take in from there. When he calls my cbet there’s a huge chance he is on a flush draw or just floating with overcards, also mid-low pairs stay in the range.
Villain: 66+, 33-22, A2s+, K8s+, QTs+, A2o+, K9o+
Turn – With 85% of equity vs the range and the pot odds I was getting I concluded calling his shove on the turn was an EV+ play. Also the J is a brick on this spot.
Villian: 99-77, 33-22, AQs+, ATs-A4s, KQs, AQo+, ATo-A9o, A5o-A4o, KQo
River – All-in
Villain: AKs

Hand #12
Preflop: This player basically calls with anything on his/her range.
Hero BB: JdTd
Villain SB: Any two
Flop – No action on the flop so the range can practically be the same be the same.
Villain: Any two
Turn – I pick up a very decent amount of equity on the turn and the bet is too small for not calling it. Here he can have straights already, FD, OESD, gutshots, top pair, sets. ANYTHING. Don’t think he has an over pair since he/she would’ve raise it preflop
Villian: 99-66, 33, A9s, A6s-A2s, K9s, Q9s, J9s, T9s, 95s, 84s-83s, 74s-73s, 64s-63s, 53s, 42s+, A9o, A6o-A2o, K9o, Q9o, J9o, T9o, 95o, 64o-63o, 42o
River – When he bets I don’t know if I am completely beat here. I don’t see my self getting out of this hand to be honest eventhough there are some pairs that get fulled with the river I think he would’ve check to extract value from worst. For be this was more a bet for a straight or the 9.
Villain: 88-66, A9s, A3s, K9s, Q9s, J9s, T9s, 98s, 63s, A9o, A3o, K9o, Q9o, J9o, T9o, 98o, 63o

Hand #13
Preflop: I have in information on the villain. Just 4 hands which basically says nothing. We are deep so there’s no need for pot commitment at this point. I will assigned to the villain a common OR range from the BTN. Which is around 50-56% these deep.
Villain BTN: AA-22,AKo-A2o,KQo-K6o,QJo-Q8o,JTo-J7o,T9o-T8o,98o-97o,87o-86o,76o-75o,65o-64o,54o,AKs-A2s,KQs-K2s,QJs-Q4s,JTs-J5s,T9s-T6s,98s-95s,87s-85s,76s-75s,65s-64s,54s-53s,43s-42s,32s
Flop – This flop hits the villain range very hard that’s why I decided to just call on the flop and If he bets again on the turn (Around 50% of the pot) I would fold. I could easily be beaten 50% of the time by the A or 15% of the time by a higher flush.
Villain: AA-22,AKo-A2o,AKs-A2s,KQs-K2s,QJs,43s-42s,85s,75s,65s-64s,75o,65o-64o
Turn – Surprisingly I didn’t fold to the turn bet, even though I didn’t have enough equity to call (needed 38% and had 19%) although pot odds where not that bad.. (I think).
Villain: AA-22,AKo-A2o,AKs-A2s,KQs-K2s,QJs,43s-42s,85s,75s,65s-64s,75o,65o-64o
River – I picked up some showdown value in the river but not worth leading here. Just check-calling depending on the size on the bet. Villain decided to check back and looses some value.
Villain: AA-22,AKo-A2o,AKs-A2s,KQs-K2s,QJs,43s-42s,85s,75s,65s-64s,75o,65o-64o
