Having watched the news over the last few days, namely the devastation caused by the earthquake in Japan, it got me thinking.

Firstly how fortunate I am in my life. I have a wonderful family, wife & daughter (second on the way). lucky enough to have a decent home to live in and I’m able to afford to feed my family. (this isn’t a brag btw)

I can’t help but feel for those people suffering out there in Japan. Men, women and children drowning and suffering. People just like me, families just like mine, children just like my own.

I feel a strong sense of empathy with people in severe distress. I feel it’s my responsibility as a human being to be compassionate towards others in need.

If I could help in any way I would love to fly over there and do what I can to help. Unfortunately it would be just a total waste of time and money since I couldn’t physically do anything to help them. This is why I’m gonna donate to the relief effort in order to pay somebody else to help them on my behalf.

If your a casual player like me and don’t rely on your poker income for living expenses, please consider donating a percentage of this months profits to the the relief effort.

Some people run a lot worse in real life then we ever do playing poker!

Really great post.  I used to play a tournament a week for charity, and I kind of let it slip when i got backed.  Lately we commited as a family to volunteering 2 days per week and that has been awesome, but I should still do more.

Since I can't really play poker on the backers dime for charity, I will go ahead and commit to donating 25% of whatever I win in my weekly home games this month.  It's a start!

Thanks for posting.
