As many of you may have heard by now, shit is going down.

To be more specific, the Manhatten U.S. Attorney and the FBI have moved against FTP, Stars and UB. As far as I can tell, all that has happened is that the internet domains have been seized–the official websites–and a civil money laundering and forfeiture action has been filed.

Here is the release from the Justice Dept re: the charges that you can read for yourself.

I think it's best to stay calm and wait for the sites to respond. It seems to me that it's better for our money to stay on the sites, as it will be in their best interest to get it to us, whereas I doubt the same can be said for the US Gov't.

I don't really want to speculate too much on the situation, but I think this is apt:

This Sucks So bad. How may entrapanuers like Ron Fezz and the founder of poker edge are going to be screwed by this moralistic wich hunt by the thought police in our society. I'ts been proven that there is a bilogical difference between conservatives and liberals. It goes down to the synapsis.

Conservatives have a large FEAR center and Liberals DO NOT.

Fear Drives all the negative actions when it doesn't tirger the FLIGHT response.

****ing Republicans.

****ing Conservatives.

They need there own ****ing planet or something.

If you're a “conservative” and find my thoughts biting then Let me give you the one fingered salute.

This obviously sucks for you guys in the US. I'm from Sweden and pokerstars is running as normal for me exept the small difference that their isn't a single players from the states obv.

Also when I log into my acc it says that business will run as normal for european citizens and that our funds is safe. That's the part that worries me for you guys.

Really hope everything workes out and that you get your $$ and that you can start playing again soon.

Otherwise, hope you enjoy your move to Canada!

GL fellow grinders.

I thought it was the democrats behind this. I remember a few years ago, some democrat senator in washington pushed a bill through making it illegal to play poker online and stuff. She made some loudmouth remarks too that got some attention. Washington has some of the strictest online gambling/poker laws and the big guns behind those were the democrats. Honestly haven't been paying that much attention to the legal stuff but now I'm pissed.

Bush WHith house WROTE THE UIGEA and hid it in the SAFE PORTS ACT.

FACT

what a State senator in Washington does and what the DOJ does enforcing US  FEDERALS LAWS are two different things.

The DOJ was seeded with Bush apointies from Oral Roberts Univesity for EIGHT YEARS. SO the DEMS have nothign to do with this.

Just like a Conservative. ILL INFORMED!!!!!!

For me poker is a serious hobby, but I do not rely on it soley to be financially stable.  For the day to day online grinders who play for a living, I hope this gets resolved asap.  This also will affect employees of online gaming sites/training sites (IT staff..etc…) who may have to layoff staff or reduce work hours in a day if this drags out for a while.

Hopefully this gets resolved sooner than later.  gl.

I believe all three have large offices in Costa Rica. It might not be the head office but they have large offices here. Most likely marketing, call centers, IT, affilliate managers, accountants etc plus I would imagine lots of bank accounts. The problem is that about 2 yrs ago the banks here pulled out their rubber gloves asking every bank account holder for proof of where their money came from because of the American Patriot act. The American Feds have been putting a lot of pressure on them because of so many American expats that live here (and arent paying a whole lot of taxes). I am Canadian but still had to go thru the hassle of proving where all my money comes from. They did it again to me this year and said they are doing it every two yrs. I guess my point is that the CR banks are going to give the feds whatever they ask for. A possible good point is if the CR policia are doing any of the investigations it will most likely get botched. They arent the sharpest tools in the shed.

We also have many offshore betting companies like Bet US etc which I am sure they will hammer next.

Best of luck to the US players.

PokerStars personally calling some of their high stakes american players to assure them their funds are in security and that they will help to cash out.

Read in a forum :

Authorities said Absolute Poker responded by saying in a release
after the new law was enacted that it would continue its U.S.
operations because “the U.S. Congress has no control over” the
company's payment transactions.

The legislation was introduced as an amendment to the 'SAFE' act which was the law that prohibited Dubai from running our ports in the aftermath of 9/11.  The sponsor and co-sponsors (the first few I checked) were Republicans.  The law was passed darn near unamimously (…..oll363.xml) by both sides.  I am conservative (a lot of poker players are) and I do not agree with this legislation.  The problem with government is that it has turned into a bunch of busy bodies telling you how to live your life.  If it's not the nanny state liberals telling me what I can eat, drink or smoke, it's the religious right telling me who I can sleep with and what I am allowed to watch on TV.  I wish they'd both go back to the part in the constitution that tells them they are just supposed to protect the country, protect me from the criminals, and be an unbiased judge in disputes between my neighbors!
