I wasn't sure where to put this since there isn't an SNG forum, but figured this forum gets the most traffic.

I'm heading to the WSOP at the end of the month and plan to take a day to play sats at the Rio.  Does anyone have a good feel for these sats and the most profitable way to play them?  I think I've made mistakes in the past by adopting a normal SNG sat, playing tight early, and loosening up later, but from reading online in a winner take all that appears to be incorrect.  Most of the advice says to try to chip up early, play it more like a cash game, see more flops, etc.  I'm confident in my push/fold game, but don't want to be making a major mistake by playing too tight early.

Im not sure how play should be adjusted for the WSOP sats specifically where most of them are chopped heads up or even 3 way.  Of course you don't know what the table will agree too late, so maybe its best on average to think there will be 2 winners.  Some times 1 and some times 3.

Thoughts from others that have had good success at these?

Thanks!

-Ron

The cheaper buy-ins have 1000 in chips and the levels are 15 mins. I would stay away from these just because the structure is pretty bad which results in less of an advantage for us. Play the mid buy-in ($235-$635) satties which have more room for play. They have 1500-2000 chips and the levels are 20 mins long. I still would suggest playing tight early on, especially OOP. You can open your range early IP but I wouldn't get too crazy when the blinds are small… you'll quickly find out that people don't like to fold. A vast majority of the players won't be shoving enough when they should be when it gets down to 3-4 handed so you can take advantage of this. Also from experience, you can “hustle” people on chop deals and always get more than they suggest. Hope this helps. Good luck sir!

i think jlude's advice is pretty much spot on.  also, the Venetian STT's are really juicy as well.  I fyou have your push fold game down, you should be profitable for sure.  I know there are some people who just go out and play these exclsuively, so there is definitely some money to be made.

I played these the last time I was out there, 2 or 3 yrs ago, and I did very well in the 165-235 sats.  Most players get involved in hands early when they shouldn't and not often enough when the blinds get higher. If you play your position well and use your push fold advantage you will kill these.  When you get above the $300 buy ins the competition tends to get more knowledgeable/capable, which is to be expected.

One last thing,  if it gets down to heads up offer a chop unless you have a 4:1 chip lead or feel you have a huge advantage over your opponent.

Does anyone have an idea of, considering the structure and one spot (GTD) paying out, what a good ROI on these things would be?  Off the top of my head it doesn't seem like a great grind in terms of $/hr.
