We just got a few new players at our table and this is first hand for main V when he sits down.
Blinds 300/600 ante 75
V1 UTG stack 21k – raises to 1300
V2 UTG+1 stack 18k – calls
Hero MP calls AQ– Stack 28k
V3 in BB calls – stack 4k
Flop A64
BB, V1, V2 all check to me. I bet 2k
BB shoves his 3k that he had left and V1 raises to 8.2k. V2 folds

I think PRE I would have 3bet SQ to 3800-4400, Now, you allowed the BB to call and see a flop which I think is kinda BAD by him, but ok there’s so much money in there, why not. I don’t hate ur flop bet. I don’t care much about BB, it’s the other guy now. So he raises you 6.2k more. He could have you beat or have the same hand. Why would he put you on AQ. AK-AJ, most pairs all in his range I think. Esp, 66 or maybe 44. I think he’s very strong here. AK, A6s or sets.
I would fold as played.

I muck this. He opened UTG obv that’s typically tight… AJ would be a bit loose. AK AQ make sense. 66 44 may make sense… I don’t care for a 44 open there… But he has to show down here so that is gonna remove all his bluffs and only leave semi bluffs or hands w reasonable equity. Muck and done…

This is a lot closer than people are suggesting. Villain can, and should, play at least some other hands this way in order to isolate the short stack, besides just 66/44. Surely villain would c-bet at least some % of the time with 66 or 44, and probably with those stronger Ax hands too, as well as with some flush draw hands, so his check-raising range here is a little ambiguous.
I definitely don’t consider it out of the question that villain could c/r a hand like QsJs or KsQs here, and since you don’t block any of those types of hands it’s something we have to think about. I also think c/r a hand like AT here might be a decent play by villain if they think you’re likely to stab this flop with a non-nutted range, since it’s really tough for you to continue without a set, but AT is clearly way ahead of BB’s range.
I imagine folding is good here since it’s villain’s first hand at the table, but I think people need to be a little more wary of assuming that this line is super nutted when there’s a short stack in play, and we block a good portion of villain’s value (AA/AK).

Ok, sorry been so long to respond. I ended up folding. I figured he had to have AK but this was my mistake. It was really clear the short stack jammed his stack and did not look to comfortable about it. The guy who initially raised I think saw this and wanted to isolate. They both had A8, so I would of won. Oh well.
