I was looking at the structures for the daily deep stacks at the WSOP this year.  The following levels caught my eye:

Level 7:  100 ante 400/800

Level 8:  200 ante 600/1200

Level 9:  200 ante 800/1600

The levels are 30 minutes.  The “price of poker” makes a huge jump from 7 to 8, and a very small jump from 8 to 9.  What adjustments should be made at the end of level 7?  At the beginning of level 8?  At the end of level 8?  At the beginning of 9?  Does the fact that the levels are so short change any of this?  Should I view levels 8 and 9 as more of an hour long level?

I assume I would avoid a marginal push in Level 7, and look to take the same marginal push in Level 8.  What are some other ideas?

Thanks,

Mike

this isn't directly related to your structure question, BUT

played quite a few of these last summer.  Even the first few levels play super aggro, and super loose.

If your bankroll affords it, I would try and get chips early.  These tournies, were, reentries last year.  So the early chip up has major value, with the short levels and relatively crapshoot structure.

That being said, obv don't recommend spewing.  obv suited connectors and small and med pairs, have a ton of value in late position, and a lot of people play these tournaments as rebuys.

if you're still in the tournament by the time, the structure starts making big jumps, just make sure you've chipped up, and exploited the tighter players and the Spewtards in the earlier levels.

Thanks for the insight.  It seems like you need to keep your foot on the gas from the jump due to the fast structure, and passing up marginal spots is probably never warranted.  Pretty standard, play your big hands fast, speculative hands when the price is right, and look for good spots to jam as the levels increase.
