The villain in this hand was the best player at that table, he had 208k winnings on stars and was dominating at this point. He seemed pretty aggressive preflop, opening and 3betting and taking down a lot of pots uncontested. The few times people played back at him or spazzed out he turned up with the goods. I hadn't played with him before the FT. Nothing much really happened between me and him so i hadn't noticed him getting out of line with me. In this hand i think Villain can certainly have bluffs in his range, not entirely sure how happy i am with my play in the hand so any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

i think based on info i like chking back flop for couple reasons….i expect him to 3b hands pre with bigger pairs than the board but lower than JJ, say 88/99/TT. I wud also either expect him to either 3b or flat pre with broadway hands. so like unless he calls pre with weak Aces, i dont expect him calling the flop too often with anything we are crushing. cuz again, if he flatted his broadway hands he prob wont c/c on that flop so by betting your just betting him off hands that have very little equity left. yea, he can have like 87 and stuff like that but giving him a free card isnt that bad. plus hes a really laggy dood so he can CR us off the best hand here. even though we haz overpair we shudnt be willing to play for stacks here so chk back flop to control size of the pot against him is good which would also get him to bluff lead the turn alot.

as played though, its a weird bet sizing as his bet on turn is as big as his flop CR….I think I call based just on the fact that he has to lead turn, hes deff got air alot. if he leads river its a sole read on sizing and timing. I really dont expect him playing one pair hands like this on the river so if he leads, his range is really polarized.

Use TPE hand converter pre.  smile

Seems like there's a chance he has 55…it's definitely feasible for him to checkraise flop with an open ender. He could also be checkraising flop with a gutter (specifically 87, which gets there on the turn).

We beat VERY little of his value range, and I think he might pot control the turn with 88-TT, since our hand looks a lot like an overpair or set after we call the flop checkraise. If this is the case, all we beat is a pure bluff.

I probably mutter “**** you asshole” under my breath and fold to his turn lead. Everything that had equity on that flop got there on the turn.

yea, the more opinions the better….not always cut and dry how to play hands.

anyway, rivermen123….you wudnt call turn? cuz i think if we do call turn there is no way he can bluff river unless hes a complete spazz and cant hand read nor do i think he wud vb worse. so basically, he wud give it up very often unless he has it imo.

This is a question on the Hero's opening bet, why a min raise when the BB is SO deep?  Had he been folding to min raises while he was in the BB?  When short handed and relatively deep I would normally raise at least 2.3 up to 2.7ish, otherwise it seems to me you invite him to call almost any two cards.  Or is this covered in a training video I have not watched yet laugh

With the hand as played, and that coordinated flop/turn which is ALL OVER his range I think you have to drop, especially with the four card straight out there.

Thanks for the feedback so far fellas, does anyone like 3betting the flop any spot in that hand or even folding the flop. I think folding that flop is a bit gay vs a check raise but just curious if a 3bet is a decent play there or do we rarely get called by worse ? I wasn't sure if call flop, re-evaluate turn was the best play here.

@ Okie, i was min-raising my full range at this point, i think most people do at this stage of the tournament. I do 2.2x open mid stages but at this point if people fold vs a min-raise then there is no reason to open for more. This guy was a good player in the BB so it wasn’t like a random station in the blinds who will call any 2 with odds.  Why do you open 2.7x short handed mate ? That seems like far too much even if your deep. Mike Leah has some great arguments for the min-raise if you watch some of his vids, although he does it for the whole tournament which i don’t really agtree with.

minR is the std online now. unless you have fish stations in the blinds where you can up your sizing a bit. otherwise, minR or minR with a couple chippies on top is optimal now.

and OP: not sure about 3b flop. if hes a fishy aggro station who wud c/r flop with A6 and call it off to your flop shove then yea. but decent players wudnt do such a thing. unless there is serious metagame where hed know ur capable of 3b shoving flop with just overcards.

also, i do caution that not every “winning” player thinks optimally. some of them still think old skool. what i mean is, he cud be the type that cr flop with a piece of the board just to take it down, thinking ur just cbetting with overcards…and then when you call flop, he kinda just spazzes out on turn and decides “well i gotta keep betting”. and his sizing on the turn is so weird that i really wouldnt be suprised he shows up with one pair Ace hands. but generally speaking, we shud fold as we beat just a bluff.

the more i play this hand over and over again, i really wanna call turn cuz i dont like folding to obv bluff spots to aggros. but ive been playing turrable lately so take my thoughts with limited validity at the moment lol.
