I’m also curious as to what you would do with AK/AQ and AJ? I’m gussing 3-bet/c or shove.

I’m going to 3bet, induce him to JAM.  Lets play for my stack.  With 14k at 600, I’m never folding this.  I want to try and get more value, so I’m 3bet…..  hoping he jams.

AK/AQ – I’d jam.

AJ – hmmm  Prob jam, but may fold depending on his/her play at tbl.

* It’s been a while- I lurk a little, but mostly out of practice.*

At ~24bb, in this situation, I’m not sure I’d ever just shove all in with any range of hands. I’d defend pretty wide, but not everything since they raised to 2.5bb, as youre likely up against a pretty wide range. AJ I’m torn between defending and 3b/folding. I’d expect a 4b shove from 99+, AQ+ at the least, and I don’t want to be a huge equity dog that often going all in. Villain probably doesn’t do a ton of flatting vs a 3b.

Against a 30% opening range, AJo has 58% equity. A lot of what you’re beating will fold and while that’s +cEV, so is flatting. AQ and AK I’d 3b/call. I can come up with reasons for flatting, but readless I’m going with 3b/call.

Another side effect of flatting AJ and stuff is that you don’t have a high 3bet % from the bb facing the open. If the opener doesn’t realize this, any error on their part with their 4betting range is going to have a big chip effect on you.

With KK here, I’m going to try inducing with a smallish 3b say 5.2bb. That way if it induces a call, you can cbet 3-5bb and induce a shove on a lot of flop textures. A preflop call builds the pot to ~12bb and stacks are ~19bb. A flop call makes the pot ~18bb and stacks ~16bb. A flop bet of 3bb makes the pot 15bb and the villain can try bluffing at it.

I’m calling here in the BB, 3betting we mostly only fold out his bluffs and his weaker range. KK crush his range… Let him catch up, make him potentially bluff us later. Let’s take it to the streets and play poker.

some interesting posts 😀 I decided to 3-bet shove and v folded. Terrible mistake! lol.

What about hands like 66-88 do you think those will be better to 3-bet shove with or should we 3b/c with those hands? thing is with 66-88 those hands do not do very well against a 4-bet shoving range. So i think it’l be better to 3-bet shove with those and 3/bet c with 99+ AJo+.

thanks! 🙂

I did this kind of quickly, forgive me if I’ve made a mistake. Here are the assumptions I made about the situation.

  • estimated 27bb stack when we shove and get folded
  • estimated 49bb stack when we shove and get called
  • assumed 30% opening range for cutoff
  • assumed cRange of AJo+, ATs+, KJs-KQs, 77+ (represents 8.14% of total hands, or 8.14/30 = 27% call: 73% fold
  • 66 vs cRange = .38% equity
  • ~16% chance knocked out (derived from V cRange win% of 61.64% x 27%)

[(.73 x 27bb) + .27(.38 x 49bb)] = 24.74bb or 3% profit on the hand with a 16% chance of losing.

I have not calculated the ev of 3b/calling.

As an aside, these numbers vary a small but non-zero amount due to card removal, both in their available opening range and the their available calling range.

Flatting here sounds pretty awesome if you’re against a villain who is exploitably too aggressive. This stack size makes it pretty easy to get shoved on by the river.
