Yo yo, just looking for advice on where to get started building a bankroll. I’ve been mostly a cash game player online for last few years but I im diving in to MTTs with both feet now. I’ve transfered my cash game roll to full tilt and will be concentrating on MTTs eclusivley on stars and merge. I’m going to start with $250 and start building. I guess what I need to know is what I should be looking at as far as buy-ins go and if I should be concentrating on guarantees or sticking to 180 sng’s ect as I build.
ive already made a couple deep runs in some micro stakes tournies but I don’t think the ROI is enough to focus solely on them.

I only play on pokerstars but i would suggest trying to play tournaments with a very very small % of your bankroll and in the smallest fields possible. The variance in tournaments with 4000 people is insane so try to play with <500 to get started. This way you'll go deep more often and you'll learn faster.

Also spend a lot of time studying the game, watching videos and really thinking about the game away from the tables. This will be more beneficial in the long run than just trying to play as many tournaments as possible. Your aims in the short run should be to enjoy the game and get better every day – don't just try to play all day everyday. If you take an attitiude of wanting to learn everyday, the bankroll will take care of itself.

Wishe I could be more specific, but since I cannot play on Full Tilt its hard to point you to exact tournaments to play.  I remember the 90 KO SNGs and the 180s being really good back in the day, but not sure how that has changed.  That being said, what is mentioned above is correct. Do not underestimate variance, make sure you are playing with PLENTY of buyins because the swings are real!

Thanks for the tips guys. I kind of figured the 180s and 90s were a good bet, I used to crush those in 08-09 before I knew what the hell I was doing. As far as MTTs go I’ll probably be firing mostly $2.20-$3.30’s and occasional $4-$5 MTTS……definitely believe the variance is real after Saturday night……tough night lol

Most of the smaller fields on pokerstars are now turbos. Thats more variance and another reason to make sure you have good bankroll management

I would give the MTT’s on FullTilt a go. There a ton of $2.50 $400,$500,$750 and $1000+

The $400 and $500 have less the 200 runners and is very soft and squishy 😉 So would be good to try and cut down the variance from the stars Mtt’s with 300-500 runners.

Obviously there are some good regs but easy to exploit with good notes and some basic HUD stats.

Give these a shot and I’m sure you will break the late stage bubble and final table on a constant basis
