The hand im wondering about is the 2014 wsop final table hand against Van hoof and Larrabe KT vs 89 hand. It was a hand talked about on the TPE podcast last year where they said because Larrabe lead the turn and and checked the river he can't have a Q in that spot and he takes it down 100% of the time instead of checking for showdown where Larrabe could have sets and a 8. My question is what is van hoof value shove range knowing that both players know you have to fold an 8 in that spot so why would you vaule shove a Q and if Larrabe never has a Q why would he shove AQ?

He probably doesn't have a range for shoving for value. From his perspective, he's looking at the hand exploitatively and thinking “if he never has Qx here he folds 100% of the time, I should shove”. Of course it's super exploitable to never have a value range in that spot but he's banking on Larrabé not to realise that's the case – it's an incredibly tough spot to be in, having to try to call it off on the river with an 8 there at the Main Event FT, and he figured Larrabé would fold his entire range. Van Hoof's play is made to exploit the fact that he expected Larrabé not to be capable of exploiting the fact that Van Hoof never has better than an 8 there.
