Played in a live 340 buy in event #3 of the Delaware poker classic…built my stack to 165k which was 7th in chips out of 47 remaining ….our table breaks and I am sat right next to a guy I have no clue about with 140k…..4 hands in I am dealt 88 with the blinds 1200-2400 / 200 ante  I raise 5100 with 5 behind…the 140k stack re-raises me to 15k and it's folded back to me ,I call ….. flop comes 6 8 10 of diamonds ….. I CHECK and he bets 25k…he has 100k behind …WHAT WOULD YOU DO ???    i WILL POST THE RESULTS AFTER A FEW REPLY'S….thanks tpe nationyellfrowncool

I would fold to the reraise preflop.

As played, I stick it all in.

THAT'S another good question…..should I have folded pre????  My thinking is that I have 140 bb and that I can call fold to a poor flop for my hand and if I spike the set put myself in a position to win the tour….the average stack at the final table will be 400k so I still have some work to do !!!

Thinking a little more, I think the call is good.  You are plenty deep.

I think you have to get aggressive on this flop.  The whole reason you called preflop was to flop a set.  Congrats, you did it.  Now, make him pay.  You have to punish him for having AA, KK, QQ and any diamond higher than a Q.

If you just call, you let him have the chance of beating you with a hand like KdQx, AxJd, JdJx, 9d,9x.  You will absolutely puke if a 4th diamond hits on the turn.

If he has nothing (AK or AQ without a diamond), he is likely to shut down and you will not get any more value.

If he has AdKd, you still have 34% chance of making a boat.

If he has 1010, gg

Good thought process and thanks for the reply……I was pretty sure I knew what he had after the 25k bet into a larger stack…..Like I said, I will post what happened after I get a few more reply's……Another question to the tpe nation…when faced with this situation do you think it is better to ship when you know that you are ahead, hope for a call and a hold or 2.5 – 3x his raise hoping for a call and and  shove the turn not giving an automatic 2 cards to a player who WON'T FOLD a 2 card draw but will likely fold if he misses the turn……

I’d prefer to be more than 60 bb deep trying to set mine OOP.

As played I jam over the c-bet.

FK ,…… I agree and if he were to have a smaller stack I would have probobly folded to the reraise…….But I thought my implied odds if I were to hit the set was worth the 4 bb call….please let me know if you disagree…thanks for the input

I like this  analysis. exactly my thinking.  One comment though, I personally don't mind the PF call although I prefer a fold since you have not seen this guy play one hand.  just think if you had 1 or 2 orbits of experience seeing him play (maybe he plays half the pots or plays no hands at all) how this would change the range you can assign him.

As played. I am shoving that flop.  You have no idea of his 3bet range so narrowing down his range is pretty hard so go with it, and play for first.

You didnt comment on payout structure so is hard to say if folding is worth it to cash etc… but it might be important to you so that plays a role as well, I personally have learned my lesson from this site and no longer pass up these opportunities to build a monster stack and have a shot at the top 3 spots.

Please forgive the math…I knew I was roughly 70bb at the pointof play…as I said, i would post the results as they played out……As I had hoped he had kk with the king of diamonds….the turn was a 4c and the river…………jack of diamonds…..the shocking part of the play was that he snap called me like he thought he was actually good…….worse is that he had 300k and didn't even cash…..thanks for all the reply's I appreciate the responses……looking back I could have folded and maybe I should have….my feeling was that he would stack off if I hit the set and he tried but the poker gods said not today……thanks again for all the reply's….bigheaddavecrycry
