Hey guys,

I ran deep in the $1.00 MTT of 5225 people yesterday and came around 22nd.

I had about 525K+ chips and guy in the SB had 320K+ chips while the BB had about 650K+ chips.

I get dealt JJ and raised 2BB from the button. SB calls and BB shoves all in. He shows…. (I'll post the result when there are responses).

BTW, the BB had a stat of around 32/22. I have also been opening a lot but getting very good cards, AA, KK, QQ, AK and so on. My table image was good with showdown values all the time coz they kept trying to keep me honest. And when I don't have it, I shut it down. So back to the above question, what would you have done. Trying to understand if I did the right thing. I'll let you know what I decided to do later. winkwinkwinkwink

Thanks

What were the blind levels? That is a critical piece of information here. Posting the actually hands helps a lot to.

Fist pump, snap call, high five the pets and start googling vacation spots.

For me, and I think players early in their poker learning this isn't such a simple call. Dont get my wrong, I'm calling here but I like to think through he spot and be very aware of why I am calling.

Our button open should be pretty wide we have tons of hands and tons of bluffs and semi-bluffs. Small blind calling looks weak as well. A player in the big blind has no reason to believe you have a strong hand. They should be aware (even at this low level) that you two are unlikely to have a hand you want to play with the way the preflop action has gone.

I expect big blind to raise alot. Now he decides to open shove 50 big blinds? What types of hands is he doing that with? I rule out huge hands like AA, KK, QQ because the way this type of player is thinking at this level is those are hands he wants to play a pot with. He doesn't want to scare you. To me this line indicated big blind has a hand that he perceives as good but not a hand he really wants to see a flop with and not know what to do. AK, AQ, AJ, tons of pocketpairs KQ may play this way. JJ plays so well against that range of hands its a great spot to pick up chips.

When you take the  level ino account ($1 MTT) players aren't going to be thinking that much at all so that above range becomes even wider in a lot of cases and we saw that here. So yes this is a pretty easy call to make but know why its an easy call. I'd also recommend not worry about the results. It really can get in the way of learning. Think about the spot, the range of hands your opponent can have and then weigh all that to make the best descision.

Thanks a lot Chuck. I believed I made the right call. Just wanted to be sure and get insights from others.

Good to know I made the right call.
