Hey guys,

I'm new to MTT's and looking for advice on a hand from a $1.1 buy-in MTT on Merge. Blinds are 150/300 with 30 ante. I'm doing pretty good with about 17,000 in chips. I get moved to a new table.

First hand on new table I have AsKs.

I raise to 750. Hijack calls. SB calls. SB has approx 18,000 in chips, so he has me covered.

Flop comes KcQc7d. SB shoves his entire stack.

My thought is that this bet is ridiculous, and if he had anything that beat me he would be looking to get more value from me. So I think I have the best hand by a mile and call. Is my thinking correct here?  Did I make the right play?  Why would he shove here if he had a monster?  It's the first hand at a new table so I have no information on the villain.

Villain had 77 for a set and knocked me out. Afterwards I was questioning if I needed to put my tournament life at risk in such a silly spot having  no read on the guy, and even though I'm new to MTT's I think there are a lot of bad players in this tournament and I maybe could have found a better spot. Is this just results oriented thinking?  I appreciate any help.  Thanks.

In this situation, I would have the same thinking as you if I had no info at all on the player. I would just call and make a note on how he played the hand for next time.

He was maybe scared of all the draws, Or maybe he did it to look weak.

Weird line from villain with set. My first thought would be he is trying to rep a huge draw or 2p. That being said I think we can sigh fold move on with tptk 60 bigs deep. Plenty of play to come and people willing to donate chips
