Hey

v only just lost a quarter or more of their stack few hands ago , i don’t have any reads.

I am getting 1.6 to 1 on the call so we need 38.5% equity to break even. I’d want to do better then break even here Since the field is soft and the players tend not to be so good. i feel that i need better odds here which is around 41.5 equity.

against a range of 66+ A8s+ KJs+ QJs+ ATo+  , hero has 41% equity , so it’s really really close to a call. I don’t think calling would be a huge mistake either way though.

Anyone think v is shoving wider then the range i’ve given?  if v is shoving 55+ A8s+ KJs+ QJs+ A8o+ KQo ,  hero would have 46.9% equity.

cheers.

In a vacuum, I’d call here:

  • Villain’s M is only 4.5 and i think the ranges you prescribed accurately sum his shoving approach. Of the two ranges you derive, I’d say his shoving play lies somewhere between them, giving you justifiable equity in calling.
  • Many players (rather transparently) 3bet small with the top of their range (i.e. premiums) in this spot. To account for this you may wish to remove either AA or KK from his range which will improve your equity a little.
  • The worst outcome: If you lose, your M falls to about 2.5. This still gives you just enough fold equity (vs the blinds) for the future 3 hands before the BB hits you.
  • The best outcome: you win and have a stack large enough to: a) put pressure on the larger stacks- enough to execute turn barrel bluffs for example and b) capitalise on their mistakes if, indeed, you’re sure that the players in this tournament are mistake prone.

Few questions:

-What’s the buy-in for this tournament?

-How close are we to the money bubble at this point?

-What’s your image? The more aggressive your image, the more i tilt toward calling

-You say you’ve no reads on the villain but do you have any stats on him whatsoever via your HUD?

Yeah I think I’m calling this.  In spots like this, before I even click the raise button, I look at all the stacks behind me and have a plan of what I’m going to do given each situation.  For example, in this hand, before I min raised I would say to myself, “Button has 12bb, SB and BB have me covered with over 18bb each.  I can raise fold against the blinds.  But the button is too short.  I will raise call the button.”

I think this one is pretty close.  I think A8s I might fold here.  AJo is a snap call.  Close one.  Another option that I’ve been experimenting with lately is limping in spots like these.  Especially against regs.  You get guys to shove really wide, then you can call with hands like this and be further ahead of their range.

@Pippo

The buyin for this was $5 , from what i remember roughly 380 players joined ,around  54 get paid and there were around 30 players left , so we have passed the bubble.

My image I’ve been playing fairly tight i’d say , i dont have any stats on him no.

what would you do with hands like 22-66 in this spot though?

@sigaba , thats intresting , limping in here sounds okay , would you also limp the top of your range here like AA-QQ? and maybe AKs? what about other hands like i dunno JTs/JQs , would u rather raise those rather then limp in this spot?

thanks! 🙂

Thank you Andrew 🙂

@foldingaces – “@sigaba , thats intresting , limping in here sounds okay , would you also limp the top of your range here like AA-QQ? and maybe AKs? what about other hands like i dunno JTs/JQs , would u rather raise those rather then limp in this spot?”

This is something I’ve been working with Marc Alioto on.  You have to have a dynamic going.  So I will start by limping hands like T9s – KQs in the CO and the BUT when it is folded to me.  Some small pairs as well; I mix it up and I experiment.  I’m not really sure if this is profitable yet, but it sure seems to throw off the regs, so I have to believe there is an edge to be had there.  After you limp, then I just see what the blinds do.  If they keep raising your limps, then you can do that with AA, KK etc.

Sigaba @nice one man! Yeah we have to balance our limping range in these spots for sure. I actually came up in a spot were every time i raised the short stack kept shoving on me , so i decided to limp on the button to avoid getting shoved on lol. I’ll try find that h/hand post it on here.

@joel , no idea why it says “free” but it is a $5 buyin.
