I am new to TPE.  I have struggled with this recently.

JJ utg with 25BB

I have been raising to 2.5-2.8 BB. Have been called on button and in tough spot.  If board is ten high it easy to play.  If an over card flops, I feel like any bet puts to much stress on stack. If I push they play perfectly. Please Help!

When up against looser reggy type players, I would cbet an A46r board for 2bb or so, about 25-30% pot, and likely do that full range except like KK and AJ exactly. I expect we get floated by backdoor straight/flush, so I’d cbet and ck/call turns that get wet, and rivers that brick, which I think is most of the run outs. There aren’t a ton of suited aces that don’t get 3bet by default relative to the amount of suited 1 gappers and stuff. That’s just the mindset I have here. JJ can get called by K and Q, or deny the equity they have. KK is unable to deny equity.

When up against a loose passive rec player, I would ck/call on flop or turn, or value bet the river if it’s checked through. I expect this kind of player to stab once at some point, not bluff raise, and not bluff more than once. I do think you can see some check behinds with top pair by this player at this stack size.

What do you think? What’s your current plan?

Depends on lots of things.

You should take a look at Andrew´s series Making Better Cbets, and probably Getting Off on The Righ Foot.

This is too complex of a question to give you a clear answer, but try to recognize that the reason you’re having trouble with JJ isn’t because of any property possessed by JJ, it’s because you lack the capacity for accurately ranging your opponents and recognizing board textures. Work on these things and JJ will get easier to play.

Oh, and also, size your raises smaller when you only have 25bb. You need to be aiming for maximum postflop maneuverability, which means you should be sizing to around 2.25bb at most when in early position with this stack size. Bigger sizings reduce the stack-to-pot ratio on the flop, which makes life difficult on the occasions you flop an ambiguous hand, which is most of the time.
