Using OPR

I notice BigDog likes to use OPR (or some source of player's results in tourneys) a lot in making reads.  I want to start doing this, too.

I also see on PokerStar's website that its one of the allowed tools.  But I couldn't find out from FTP whether OPR was allowed or not.  I looked all over their site.  I also emailed them, and the answer I got back from them was vague, but said, players were not allowed to use any software or website “that contain statistics derived from hands and/or tournaments in which you did not participate.” But they wouldn't specifically say whether OPR itself was or was not prohibited.

So my question is, does any know for sure if OPR can be used while playing at FTP (and for that matter, on Cereus)? Has anyone run into any trouble doing so?  I don't want to start using it and get into some sort of trouble!  Thanks

just don't go typing in players stats in the chat box when they suck out and you will be fine IMO

I guess you shouldn't have any problems in using OPR, or anything similar. And remember to follow rcfromtn advice, as it is on the OPR user agreements if i'm not mistaken.

If you are looking for a better and more practical solution, I strongly recommend Tournament Shark for this. It attaches itself on tables, I do use it with FTP and PS, not sure about others sites but I guess it should work with other main sites. I have been using it for a time and i'm really digging it. It shows average buy in, average profit and how often the guy leaves a tournament early, early mid, mid, mid late and late(in the money). It costs 50 bucks if the price haven´t changed.

If you have any questions just send me a PM and i'll be glad to share what I know.

Last year Full Tilt put a block on OPR meaning you couldn't look anyone up. Unsure if that's changed but there are other sites you can use.

As rc said just don't do anything in the chat box and you're fine.

Tournament Shark sounds like a “nice to have” but I can easily look people up on my own once I get deep in an MTT and watching them play will tell me if they're a long-term winner or not.

I guess I would ask if there is an interface right there on the table like HEM because if you're also using HEM it seems like there would be way too much noise on the screen, especially if you multi-table and size your tables smaller.

I thought the only reason OPR was created was to berate people who suck out then say “ty”. lol. Nah I use OPR all the time, it's pretty simple and I think just about everyone uses it, SS, top shark, or something like it.  Bluff has a website with online rankings also I believe.  If it is not allowed then that's news to me and probably every other tournament player.

Most Regs and serious amateurs are going to be OPR'ing you deep in a tourney FWIW,so I could only imagine you will be doing the same to get a little info…no?

I use thepokerdb myself and take note of people's average buyins.  If we are in a big tournament and their ABI is very low, I try to take advantage 🙂
