This is from a $20+2 six-handed tourney on Bwin which I reviewed recently.  Fairly new to the table so I had no real reads on the villain – although his big stack might suggest he's not afraid to move his chips around.  Looking back, I'm not sure about my play on any street.  The check on the turn was meant to be for pot control which kind of contradicts the check raise on the flop.  By the river, despite hitting my ace, I didn't like his bet at all.

Call the river?  Play other streets differently?

Cheers,

Too tired to give reasons (in Johannesburg S. Africa and recently had happy hour, dinner and wine 😉 but I'm shoving all in here with two pair!

On second thought if he had AK I think me might have bet something to get a backdoor flush draw out? maybe not. I should probably should not post when I have been out having a good time on my layovers 🙂 Anyway I'm posting to learn where I am going wrong. I never had the nerve to post my thoughts on any other forum but I am going to lay it all out ih here in hopes of getting better, on this fourm.

p.s. I am in S. Africa because I am a flight attendant, no fancy vacations frown

I fold.

A Queen is definitely in UTG open range and it now looks like he's betting pot to make it look bluffy, but I believe he has the Queen for the nut straight.

QQ

AQ

KQ

QJ

Etc

totally agree with fold now. I did not even see Q for str8. Like I said earlier, I should earlier, I should not be posting after a night out with the crew. Won't happen again.

I like the 3 bet pre. Stacks are good, you are in position and it should make it easier to play post flop.

That said, I don’t hate the flat either. 6 handed, in position and we don’t know that much about his opening range. I struggle with when to flat, but having a better hand than the raiser’s range is one reason I do. I don’t just flat with more speculative hands, like small pairs and middle suited connectors. Obviously, I flat the top of my range if I know more about the opponent.

No way I call that river bet. I would put him on exactly KQ.

I like the 3-bet pre to see if we can take down a small pot right now, plus it looks very strong for a post flop c-bet shove with that bored. While it is possible he has the queen for nut straight, his check on the turn seemed like he was afraid of the king. I am thinking he has AJ or JQ, but we don't really have the stack to fire on the turn to be sure. I lay it down on the river to his shove. I would like a hand like this to end early. I am horrible for donking off chips with two pairs on the river.

Honestly I dont have a issue with 3 betting pre but dont think thats always the best line. The problem with 3 betting ace jack suited is if you get 4 bet you have to fold and could be folding the best hand. So I dont really hate the way this hand has been played. I think its pretty much a fold on river tho.

New to the table I probably 3 bet this in position even though we're facing a UTG raise – it's 6 max so AJs is pretty strong and weaker Ax will open UTG.

As played we're folding the river. We beat a bluff only because I don't see a worse 2 pair ever taking this line. I think you see KQ here a lot and AQ here some times.

Thanks for all the comments.

I folded the river in the end, just because the straight seemed so likely but when I came to review the HH it didn't seem so obvious for some reason.  It's good to have the majority of people back up that decision.

As for 3-betting pre, I think I just wanted to keep the pot small and play the hand in position with the stacks relatively deep – at least until I had a better feel for the table.  I'm pretty sure that, given his stack size, the original raiser is folding close to 0% of his opening range to a 3-bet. If he calls, all I have achieved is bloating the pot.  If he raises, all I have achieved is wasting a playable hand.

Cheers,

emb
