Tweaking your game constantly

Hey guys,

I'm new here at TPE and not really sure if this should be in the MTT strategy forum or here, but nevertheless I'd like to hear the opinion of some of our pros about it.

Do you find yourself constantly tweaking your game when you go on a downswing? I mean it's probably natural to keep your game to how it is when you're doing well, but it also has to be natural for you to start looking for things to fix in your game when nothing's going well. I can see how these things come naturally especially for players who continuously strive to get better.

At what point do you say: my game is fine, I'm just on a bad run…? Or do you find yourself constantly trying out new strats that you pick up from forums, videos, or just when you're bored and thinking about the game and think about something you haven't tried before might work?

I've been playing MTTs regularly for a few years now and see the same regs over and over again, and I wouldn't be surprised if one guy has a note on me that says I'm a nit, while another guy thinks I'm crazy.

So does this happen to everyone too, sort of like a poker identity crisis?

During a downswing you are going to critique and question your own game much more then on a upswing.  I think the best bet is to constantly be working on your game whether you are on a downswing or upswing.  As long as you are reviewing your own HH's and watching videos you are going to pick up small things here and there.  I would never recommend making huge adjustments unless you are willing to drop stakes for a period of time while you work on those adjustments.

Not sure if that all made sense but it's human nature for us to second guess ourselves and our game.  One of the most important qualities to have is confidence while playing and second guess what we are doing while reviewing a session afterwards.
